Spend more than 30 hours amongst the whales. EAST HAMPTON TRAILS PRESERVATION SOCIETY Amagansett 324-0806 Wed 8/1 Buckskill Airport Loop 9 A.M (4 miles) Within sight or sound of some major infrastructure (airport, recreation complex, rifle range) you can still find beautiful tranquility on an easy (flat) trail in the western end of town. Meet on Wainscott-Northwest Rd (Daniel‘s Hole Rd) just north of the airport where the overhead power line crosses the road. Leader: Richard Lupoletti 324-1127 Sat 8/4 Longpond Greenbelt 9 A.M (3 OR 5 miles) Hikers can choose between a shorter or longer trek through the popular Greenbelt trail in Sag Harbor. Woods, wetlands, and interconnected ponds, flat terrain. Meet at the entrance to Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor. Leader: Jill Barber 725-2143 Wed 8/8 Ralph’s Landing 9 A.M (2 miles) Good things still come in small packages. This easy 2 miler (some beach walking) has the best water views in the Northwest, including the Cedar Point Lighthouse, Barcelona Neck, Sag Harbor and Shelter Island. Meet at the water end of Mile Hill Road, off Old Northwest Road in East Hampton . Leader: Gene Makl 324-8662 Sat 8/11 Stephen Talkhouse Path 9 A.M (4-5 Miles) Stephen Talkhouse was proclaimed the world’s greatest walker;he was said to have walked from Montauk to Brooklyn in one day. Join us on this somewhat hilly path named in his honor. Meet at the Hither Hills Overlook off Route 27, one mile east of the Montauk Highway/Old Montauk Highway split. Leader: Lee Dion 375-2339 Sat 8/11 Beach Picnic, Indian Wells Beach Amagansett 6-9 P.M. Rain Date 8/18 BYO Picnic & a Goodie for the dessert table Wed 8/15 Shadmoor State Park 9 A.M (2.5 miles) This spectacular hike includes a newly cut woodsy trail, close-up views of WW II bunkers, and one of the most awesome views on the East End along the dramatic Montauk bluffs. Portions of the trail can be muddy after a rain; wear proper footgear. Meet at the Shadmoor parking lot on the south side of Rt. 27, about one quarter mile past Montauk center. A large sign marks the entrance.
