Sat 7/28 “Community Festival with Traditional Shinnecock Music, Song and Dance” The Thomas Halsey Homestead, 249 South Main Street, Southampton 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Free admission Southampton’s first pioneering families were members of the ancient Shinnecock Nation. Scientists say they came to Long Island hunting caribou but oral tradition says they are the human children of a goddess who descended from the sky. This festival celebrates the opening of a new long-term exhibit titled “We’re Still Here! Evolution of the Shinnecock Nation, Past & Present.” Traditional performances, food and music will be supplied by the Shinnecock Reservation on the lawn of one of the first white settler’s who came to Southampton in 1640. Sat 7/28 “Curator’s Talk: The Squiretown Circle by Marc Fascenella” 5:30 pm $10 suggested donation Marc Fasanella will talk about a group of artists who lived and worked in Hampton Bays, between the 1940s and 1970s. They shared a passion for art, progressive politics and often gathered for drinksa with discussions that ran long into the night. They became known as the Squiretown Circle.
