Ross Bleckner has been the subject of major exhibitions in museums internationally—he was the youngest artist ever to have a solo exhibition at the Solomon R. Thurs 7/15 Opera in Cinema: Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio” 7:30 pm $16 Parrish members/$20 nonmembers Mozart premiered this opera in 1782, when a craze for all things Turkish swept Western Europe. The style of this production falls somewhere between traditional and contemporary. There is still Turkish influence in the music, but not the caricaturized Turkish costumes and sets that would indicate an "exotic" setting. This production premiered in April 2010 at Gran Teatro del Liceu, Barcelona. Running time is 174 minutes. Also shown on Sun 7/18 at 2:00 pm. Fri 7/16 Special Film Program: It Don’t Pay to be an Honest Citizen 8:00 pm $5 Parrish members/$7 nonmembers Based on the director’s own absurd experience being mugged in Red Hook before its gentrification, the movie stars William Burroughs as a Mafia don, Allen Ginsberg as a lawyer, Vincent D’Onofrio as a mugger (in his second film role), and Rackstraw Downes as an angry lunch counter proprietor. Thurs 7/22 Special Film Program: Funny Business 7:00 pm $5 Parrish members / $7 nonmembers Charles Addams was a close friend of director Lyda Ely’s family. When her mother died before realizing her dream of publishing her cartoons in the New Yorker, Ely began a quest to fully explore the field. Funny Business travels into the studios of some of our most celebrated cartoonists — George Booth, Roz Chast, Ed Koren, and Sam Gross among them—as well as into the offices of the New Yorker, providing unprecedented access to the lives and work of these artists. Director Lyda Ely will be present to introduce the screening. Sat 7/31 A Longhouse Twilight 5:30 pm $75 Opening: Magdalene Odundo: Ceramic Forms Concert: Music Festival of the Hamptons--The Festival String Trio Book signing: Jack Lenor Larsen's LongHouse Although Magdalene Odundo’s vessels have no utilitarian or ritualistic function and are created with a process thousands of years old, they seem unreservedly contemporary. Using traditional potting techniques, Odundo fires her work in wood chips. By burnishing her hand-built coils, covering them with slip, and burnishing them again, they oxidize during firing, creating a smoky, blackened surface, reminiscent of traditions and techniques used in ages past and reflective of African ceramic history. Through October 9. We are delighted to welcome the Music Festival of the Hamptons back to LongHouse for their second outdoor concert this season. Weather permitting, the concert will begin with Jorge Avila, David Cerutti, and Sarah Hewitt performing Franz Schubert's String Trio in B flat D 471 and Ludwig van Beethoven's Serenade in D Major for Violin, Viola and Violincello, Op.8—their Serenade in the Wind. Jack Lenor Larsen's LongHouse, the pictorial keepsake of your cherished visits to LongHouse Reserve, will be available for sale on July 31st. Have your Special Edition volume featuring a hand-made, hand dyed, hand folded mulberry fiber cover, signed by author, Molly Chappellet. They return to Northern New England and Canada in May. Seals belonging to the Pinniped family (meaning “feather footed” or “winged”), are true seals which lack external earflaps, have torpedo shaped bodies for fast swimming. They have long, sharp claws to help them dig into the ice while climbing out of the water or onto the beach. Unlike sea lions, their front flippers are short and they are referred to as “earless” seals. Their hind flippers are webbed and pointed backwards to help them swim. They have been recorded swimming over 12 miles per hour and have been spotted swimming 70 miles off of the coast of Long Island. Seals haul out of the water to rest, sleep, and warm up in the sun’s heat. While on land sunning themselves, they are often seen in a “banana” shaped position. The seals we see on Long Island are most often Harbor seals, but there are a few other types, such as harp seals, grey seals, hooded seals, and ringed seals. Numbers have been increasing in past years into the thousands around Long Island due to the changing location of their food sources and the changing temperatures of their watery habitat. Most of the seals that visit Long Island are younger seals. These marine mammals eat a variety of crustaceans, fish and shellfish like mussels, clams, oysters and squid. Seal Observation Walks Join Mike Bottini on a 3 mile (round trip) hike to view seals and learn about their habits, behavior, and population trends in the Long Island region. Dress warm and wear comfortable hiking shoes; we will be outdoors for 2.5 hours. Binoculars recommended but not necessary. Mike will bring a spotting scope that everyone will get a chance to use. This program is sponsored by New York State Parks, and is scheduled to coincide with low tide, when seals are most likely to be basking on the rocks. Have you ever tried mead? Maybe you tried mead while visiting Europe or at a medieval festival? Have you been told that mead was like beer, a beer with honey or even a wine with honey? Mead has some similarities to these beverages, but it is so much more it deserves its own category. Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of honey as its primary sugar source and is often referred to as honey wine. Being made from honey, one would naturally expect it to be very sweet and although it usually is, it can actually range from dry to very sweet. Mead is usually still, though it can be made sparkling and can range from a mild low alcoholic content up to very high. Mead is arguably the oldest alcoholic beverage on the planet with some evidence dating it back approximately 10,000 years. Due to many different cultural and financial reasons, mead has fallen out of favor over the many years and now we call it the 'oldest alcoholic beverage no one has ever heard of.' A far cry from its heyday when it was referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods.' Mead can be produced in many variations including a plain honey wine (traditional - honey only), flavored with fruit (melomel), spices (metheglin), vegetables, or any combination of ingredients limited only by the imagination of the wine maker and the resources he has at hand. LIEB CELLARS 35 Cox Neck Road, Mattituck, NY 11952 631.298.1942 Tasting Room hours: Open daily 11:00 am – 5:00 pm LONG ISLAND MEADERY 1347 Lincoln Avenue Suite 11 Holbrook NY 11741 285-7469 Have you ever heard of mead? Due to many different cultural and financial reasons, mead has fallen out of favor over the many years and now we call it the 'oldest alcoholic beverage no one has ever heard of.' A far cry from its hey day when it was referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods.' Mead can be produced in many variations including a plain honey wine (traditional - honey only), flavored with fruit (melomel), spices (metheglin), vegetables, or any combination of ingredients limited only by the imagination of the wine maker and the resources he has at hand. September Fri 9/3 Bill Charlap and Sandy Stewart 8pm $100 VIP Prime Orchestra (includes post-show VIP wine and cheese reception in Garden w/ artists) / $95 Members VIP / $40 Orchestra-Balcony/ $38 Members OrchBalcony. Forget for a moment singer SANDY STEWART and pianist BILL CHARLAP are mother and son; forget that the late Morris “Moose” Charlap, famed Broadway composer, was Sandy’s husband and Bill’s father; that the family’s Manhattan apartment was a meeting place for some of the greatest songwriters ever to enliven western culture in the 20th century; let pass, for now, all the notions of precocity and pedigree inherent in the narrative that brings these two individuals together. A Philadelphia native, Sandy Stewart made her professional debut as a singer when she was 10. She first met Moose Charlap in her teens when he was renting the rehearsal space downstairs from her voice teacher; they met again, by chance, a decade later in Manhattan, fell in love, married and raised a family. When Moose Charlap died in 1974, she supported the family by singing on demo sessions and for advertisement jingles. When it comes to matching the push and verve you’d expect of masterful improvisers with a reverence for the songs—or “standards,” if you will—that have long served as creative templates for jazz artists, few have succeeded in recent years like pianist Bill Charlap. Charlap, now 38, exhibits the same wise, almost uncanny understanding of what jazz audiences desire that you see in jazz elders. Simply put, he knows how to make “the familiar” entirely new each time he sits down at the piano. Sat 9/4 The Hamptons International Film Festival, in association with Guild Hall presents: SummerDocs screening #3 "The Last Play at Shea", hosted by Alec Baldwin and Billy Joel 8pm SOLD OUT $20 / $18 members per screening From The Beatles' first-ever arena performance in 1965 until Billy Joel's concert before its demolition in 2009, Shea Stadium played host to some of the biggest names in music from around the globe in addition to serving as home to the New York Mets. This lovingly crafted documentary interweaves the history of this recently lost New York City landmark with the career of Long Island native Billy Joel, a performer whose personal connection to the stadium made him the perfect choice to close the curtain on Shea's storied past. Sun 9/5 Livingston Taylor in Concert with Taylor Barton-Smith 7:30pm $35 / $33 Members of Guild Hall Livingston Taylor picked up his first guitar at the age of thirteen, beginning a forty-year career that has encompassed performance, songwriting and teaching. Born in Boston and raised in North Carolina, Livingston is the fourth child in a very musical family that includes Alex, James, Kate and Hugh. Livingston recorded his first record at 18 and has continued to create well-crafted, introspective and original songs that have earned him listeners worldwide. From top-forty hits “I Will Be in Love with You” and “I’ll Come Running,” to “I Can Dream of You” and “Boatman” both recorded by his brother James, Livingston’s creative output has continued unabated. His musical knowledge has inspired a varied repertoire, and he is equally at home with a range of musical genres—folk, pop, gospel, jazz—and from upbeat storytelling to touching ballads. Livingston has never stopped performing since those early coffeehouse days, touring with major artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffet and Jethro Tull, and he maintains a busy concert schedule of over eighty shows a year. He is a natural performer, peppering his shows with personal stories, anecdotes and ineffable warmth that connect him to his fans. His relaxed on-stage presence belies the depth of his musical knowledge, and fans might just as often be treated to a classic Gershwin or something from the best of Broadway. http://livtaylor.com/ Music and Song programming sponsored in part by Susan and Steven Jacobson GUILD HALL Moran, Woodhouse and Spiga Galleries and Boots Lamb Education Center 158 Main Street, East Hampton, NY 11937 631.324.0806 Museum Hours Thurs – Sat 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, Sun 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm On View through October 11 BARBARA KRUGER All Galleries In keeping with our longstanding tradition of exhibiting artists of the region, Guild Hall is turning over the entire museum to Barbara Kruger. 31 North Main Street, East Hampton NY 11937 631-324-9766 innkeeper@millhouseinn.com www.millhouseinn.com

At the same time they draw on the handcrafted, low-tech aesthetic of Folk Art. As a group they offer an alternative to the sleek packaging of global consumerism and corporate culture, providing instead distinctive personal visions of what it means to make art in the digital phase of the information age. The artists in the exhibition—Scott Anderson, Brian Bress, Cole Case, James Gobel, Glenn Goldberg, Leia Jervert, Michael Lazarus, Nathan Mabry, Kristen Morgin, and Jeni Spota— explore their themes in a variety of materials and imagery, taking something of an almost eccentric approach to the traditional understanding of mainstream Pop. What links them, according to exhibition curator David Pagel, is “Do-it-yourself ingenuity, stubborn individualism, and stand-alone defiance. All of these artists infuse the ready accessibility of Pop Art with a strong dose of skepticism….The works in Underground Pop come somewhere between the homespun, homegrown, almost hokey earnestness of good old-fashioned Americana and the hands-off, post-industrial cool of American Pop.” Although they don’t constitute a full-blown movement, the artists in Underground Pop celebrate the freedom represented by Pop at its best and the joy of amateurism, which is reflected in their funky, out-of-synch paintings, eccentric, hand-crafted sculptures, and inventive, low-tech videos. According to Pagel, “They go out of their way to leave room for loose ends and rough edges, for places and spaces where desire is not instantly gratified but satisfied more slowly, with viewers actively engaged with its hands-on manufacture, its piecemeal production, and its tentative, propositional unfinishedness.” The presentation of Underground Pop and its accompanying programs are made possible, in part, with generous support from Dorothy Lichtenstein, C.A.L. Foundation, and Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder. 31 North Main Street, East Hampton NY 11937 631-324-9766 innkeeper@millhouseinn.com www.millhouseinn.com

A native of California, Judy Carmichael moved to New York in the early 80’s and has maintained a busy concert schedule throughout the world ever since. She has toured for the United States Information Agency throughout India, Portugal, Brazil and Singapore. In 1992 Ms. Carmichael was the first jazz musician sponsored by the United States Government to tour China. The musician that critics have referred to as "astounding, flawless and captivating" (The New York Times) has played in a variety of venues from Carnegie Hall, to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice (the first concert ever presented by the museum) to programs with Joel Grey, Michael Feinstein, Steve Ross and the Smothers Brothers. In addition, Ms. Carmichael has done comic skits and performed her music on radio and TV and performed private recitals for everyone from Rod Stewart and Robert Redford to President Clinton and Gianni Agnelli. The business is led by owners Joseph Macari Sr. and his wife, Katherine, and Joseph Macari Jr., who is at the helm of the winery with his wife, Alexandra. Though Macari Vineyards was established in 1995, the Macari Family has owned the 500 acre waterfront estate for nearly 50 years. In this time, they have been careful environmental stewards of the land. What were once potato fields and farmland has become a vineyard of 180 acres of vines with additional fields of compost, farmland, and a home to cows, goats, Sicilian donkeys and ducks.
