A young man, Alan Strang (Sam Underwood), who is obsessed with horses, has committed a horrifying crime with no clear reason as to cause. The boy doesn't seem a dangerously atypical seventeen year old and yet, throughout their sessions, Dysart is forced to question his own sadly dispassionate life as he searches for the answer - or for a cure - to the boy's lethal psychological chaos. Thurs 7/15 Opera in Cinema: Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio” 7:30 pm $16 Parrish members/$20 nonmembers Mozart premiered this opera in 1782, when a craze for all things Turkish swept Western Europe. The style of this production falls somewhere between traditional and contemporary. There is still Turkish influence in the music, but not the caricaturized Turkish costumes and sets that would indicate an "exotic" setting. This production premiered in April 2010 at Gran Teatro del Liceu, Barcelona. Running time is 174 minutes. Also shown on Sun 7/18 at 2:00 pm.

Starting on the 26th of July, this installation will take place every night at 6pm until the 1st of August on the lawn of WhiteWash Studio at 249 Main Street, Amagansett. This week-long collection of performances will unite local musicians and dancers to create a painting installation. Each evening will feature different styles of sound & movement. the intersection between these varying techniques will be manifested as a large-scale action painting. East of Eden will conclude with an exhibition of the seven paintings created over the course of the week on the 1st of August following the final performance.

Through Sat 7/24 “P.S. I Love You” Museum Hours For some 13 years, from 1954 until his death in 1967, the abstract painter Ad Reinhardt sent poetic illustrated notes and postcards to Olga Sheirr, with whom he had an intermittent love affair. Nearly 90 of them will be on view in “In the Minds Of Me” at the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in Springs. The exhibit opens on Saturday, May 1, and can be seen through July 24.

Using traditional potting techniques, Odundo fires her work in wood chips. They return to Northern New England and Canada in May. Seals belonging to the Pinniped family (meaning “feather footed” or “winged”), are true seals which lack external earflaps, have torpedo shaped bodies for fast swimming. They have long, sharp claws to help them dig into the ice while climbing out of the water or onto the beach. Unlike sea lions, their front flippers are short and they are referred to as “earless” seals. Their hind flippers are webbed and pointed backwards to help them swim. They have been recorded swimming over 12 miles per hour and have been spotted swimming 70 miles off of the coast of Long Island. Seals haul out of the water to rest, sleep, and warm up in the sun’s heat. While on land sunning themselves, they are often seen in a “banana” shaped position. The seals we see on Long Island are most often Harbor seals, but there are a few other types, such as harp seals, grey seals, hooded seals, and ringed seals. Numbers have been increasing in past years into the thousands around Long Island due to the changing location of their food sources and the changing temperatures of their watery habitat. Most of the seals that visit Long Island are younger seals. These marine mammals eat a variety of crustaceans, fish and shellfish like mussels, clams, oysters and squid.

Seal Observation Walks Join Mike Bottini on a 3 mile (round trip) hike to view seals and learn about their habits, behavior, and population trends in the Long Island region. Dress warm and wear comfortable hiking shoes; we will be outdoors for 2.5 hours. Binoculars recommended but not necessary. Mike will bring a spotting scope that everyone will get a chance to use. This program is sponsored by New York State Parks, and is scheduled to coincide with low tide, when seals are most likely to be basking on the rocks.

Have you ever tried mead? Maybe you tried mead while visiting Europe or at a medieval festival? Have you been told that mead was like beer, a beer with honey or even a wine with honey? Mead has some similarities to these beverages, but it is so much more it deserves its own category. Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of honey as its primary sugar source and is often referred to as honey wine. Being made from honey, one would naturally expect it to be very sweet and although it usually is, it can actually range from dry to very sweet. Mead is usually still, though it can be made sparkling and can range from a mild low alcoholic content up to very high. Mead is arguably the oldest alcoholic beverage on the planet with some evidence dating it back approximately 10,000 years. Due to many different cultural and financial reasons, mead has fallen out of favor over the many years and now we call it the 'oldest alcoholic beverage no one has ever heard of.' A far cry from its heyday when it was referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods.' Have you ever tried mead? Maybe you tried mead while visiting Europe or at a medieval festival? Have you been told that mead was like beer, a beer with honey or even a wine with honey? Mead has some similarities to these beverages, but it is so much more it deserves its own category. Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of honey as its primary sugar source and is often referred to as honey wine. Being made from honey, one would naturally expect it to be very sweet and although it usually is, it can actually range from dry to very sweet. Mead is usually still, though it can be made sparkling and can range from a mild low alcoholic content up to very high. Mead is arguably the oldest alcoholic beverage on the planet with some evidence dating it back approximately 10,000 years. Due to many different cultural and financial reasons, mead has fallen out of favor over the many years and now we call it the 'oldest alcoholic beverage no one has ever heard of.' A far cry from its hey day when it was referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods.' At the same time they draw on the handcrafted, low-tech aesthetic of Folk Art. As a group they offer an alternative to the sleek packaging of global consumerism and corporate culture, providing instead distinctive personal visions of what it means to make art in the digital phase of the information age. The artists in the exhibition—Scott Anderson, Brian Bress, Cole Case, James Gobel, Glenn Goldberg, Leia Jervert, Michael Lazarus, Nathan Mabry, Kristen Morgin, and Jeni Spota— explore their themes in a variety of materials and imagery, taking something of an almost eccentric approach to the traditional understanding of mainstream Pop. What links them, according to exhibition curator David Pagel, is “Do-it-yourself ingenuity, stubborn individualism, and stand-alone defiance. All of these artists infuse the ready accessibility of Pop Art with a strong dose of skepticism….The works in Underground Pop come somewhere between the homespun, homegrown, almost hokey earnestness of good old-fashioned Americana and the hands-off, post-industrial cool of American Pop.” Although they don’t constitute a full-blown movement, the artists in Underground Pop celebrate the freedom represented by Pop at its best and the joy of amateurism, which is reflected in their funky, out-of-synch paintings, eccentric, hand-crafted sculptures, and inventive, low-tech videos. According to Pagel, “They go out of their way to leave room for loose ends and rough edges, for places and spaces where desire is not instantly gratified but satisfied more slowly, with viewers actively engaged with its hands-on manufacture, its piecemeal production, and its tentative, propositional unfinishedness.” The presentation of Underground Pop and its accompanying programs are made possible, in part, with generous support from Dorothy Lichtenstein, C.A.L. Grammy nominated pianist Judy Carmichael is one of the world’s leading interpreters of stride piano and swing. Count Basie nicknamed her “Stride”, acknowledging the command with which she plays this technically and physically demanding jazz piano style. A native of California, Judy Carmichael moved to New York in the early 80’s and has maintained a busy concert schedule throughout the world ever since. She has toured for the United States Information Agency throughout India, Portugal, Brazil and Singapore. In 1992 Ms. Carmichael was the first jazz musician sponsored by the United States Government to tour China. The musician that critics have referred to as "astounding, flawless and captivating" (The New York Times) has played in a variety of venues from Carnegie Hall, to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice (the first concert ever presented by the museum) to programs with Joel Grey, Michael Feinstein, Steve Ross and the Smothers Brothers. In addition, Ms. Carmichael has done comic skits and performed her music on radio and TV and performed private recitals for everyone from Rod Stewart and Robert Redford to President Clinton and Gianni Agnelli. Have you ever tried mead? Maybe you tried mead while visiting Europe or at a medieval festival? Have you been told that mead was like beer, a beer with honey or even a wine with honey? Mead has some similarities to these beverages, but it is so much more it deserves its own category. Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of honey as its primary sugar source and is often referred to as honey wine. Being made from honey, one would naturally expect it to be very sweet and although it usually is, it can actually range from dry to very sweet. Mead is usually still, though it can be made sparkling and can range from a mild low alcoholic content up to very high. Mead is arguably the oldest alcoholic beverage on the planet with some evidence dating it back approximately 10,000 years. Due to many different cultural and financial reasons, mead has fallen out of favor over the many years and now we call it the 'oldest alcoholic beverage no one has ever heard of.' A far cry from its hey day when it was referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods.' Mead can be produced in many variations including a plain honey wine (traditional - honey only), flavored with fruit (melomel), spices (metheglin), vegetables, or any combination of ingredients limited only by the imagination of the wine maker and the resources he has at hand.
