Frank’s visit to Jerusalem in 1999 inspired her to produce the first painting in the series and to visualize the creation of other works representing additional cities that have survived strife. The series directs action through hopeful energy by celebrating the best of the human spirit, transforming anguish into beauty. Cities of Peace was produced at the Illumination Atelier in East Hampton, New York, by interns from China, Korea, Colombia, Estonia, Japan, Poland, Hong Kong, Canada, and the United States, under the artistic direction of Ellen Frank. Works devoted to Monrovia, Sarajevo, Hanoi, Dresden, Beirut, Seoul, Warsaw, and other cities will continue the project. This exhibition marks the debut of work by the Illumination Atelier. Halsey Howell” On exhibit through 12/31, 2010 Come celebrate Southampton’s many holiday traditions with our annual winter exhibit Decembers Past & Present. The 1843 Rogers Mansion is decorated with traditional holiday decorations and displays by Southampton's many ethnic and cultural communities. Also on display is the artwork of E. Halsey Howell (1910-1982), a direct descendant. a.m. to 12 noon. FEE: $5 per child For children ages 7-12 years old. Hands-on learning of traditional holiday crafts.
