CURLKIT BRINGS US SOMETHING EXCITING THIS FALL!

A

woman’s morning beauty regime can put her in contact with hundreds of chemicals before sipping her morning chai latte. Though there isn’t always definitive evidence linking a given chemical to adverse health effects, today’s consumer is very conscientious of the hair health benefits that come with using products that are Sulphate free, Paraben free and Mineral Oil free. With so many beauty products on the market and limited hours in the day, home subscription boxes are becoming a popular option for taking the guess work out of narrowing down the products with the best ingredients. “When it comes to hair care resources, women are trading in standing in the local beauty supply store sifting through ingredient labels for more time saving online options for sourcing out the best products for optimal hair health results,” explains CurlKit founder & CEO, Heather Cummings. “A subscription box service not only gives the consumer an opportunity to try a variety products without leaving their home, but educates the consumer to enable them to

hone in on essential ingredients found in products that work with their individual hair type.” Hair subscription services, like CurlKit, introduce consumers to products for their natural hair without them having to pay the full price. Based on the ingredients as well as testing by the CurlKit team, a package of 6-9 hand curated products obtained from wellknown brands and niche beauty lines arrives directly to the subscriber’s door each month. “The most effective home treatment for hair care is a great regime paired with a healthy diet,” shares Cummings. Essential fatty acids found in walnuts, coconuts, flaxseeds, fish and avocado help keep the hair hydrated for optimal growth and shine. Coconut oil’s hydrating properties increase hair elasticity by penetrating the hair follicle and strengthening it from the inside out. EDEN BodyWorks All Natural Coconut Shea Curl Defining Crème infuses moisture to strengthen hair while providing frizz control and style definition. Perfect for dry, damaged or chemically treated hair; Alikay Naturals Caribbean Coconut Milk Shampoo cleanses hair without stripping hair of its natural

moisture. A deeply repairing hair mask pairing the healing benefits of gardenia with coconut oil to nurture hair from root to tip, Carol Daughter’s Monoi Repairing Hair Mask breathes new life into the age old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Silica and zinc minerals are also critical for hair growth, while vitamin E help prevent breakage. Packed full of zinc, vitamin C and vitamin E; pumpkins are not limited to bake goods. Combining Pumpkin Seed Extract and Vanilla with Ginger Root Oil and Clove for a hint of spice, WEN’s Fall Ginger Pumpkin Cleansing Conditioner offers a non-stripping solution for maintaining the hair and scalp’s natural oils and moisture. The final step in your fall healthy hair routine, this fall’s modern makeover to the classic French twist offers a looser, more relaxed style to keep hair hydrated and frizz-free. One Arlington doctor has boldly gone where no one has before, taking her message across the ocean and into the hearts of many. Dr. Linda Amerson has officially released the “Cruise With a Purpose” theme song, a sprightly and funky mix that highlights her annual awareness cruise that travels to exotic islands & lakes while educating and enlightening attendees on the effects of alopecia, a condition in which those affected suffer hair loss from the scalp. The condition can present itself at any time and can affect people of all ages. Dr. Amerson has created a unique opportunity to reach out to those affected by providing a meaningful moment of relaxation and reflection. Dr. Amerson who has released the track under the moniker Dr. A has been declared the “Singing Hair Doctor” by industry tastemakers after her song was performed at her first annual Cruise With a Purpose, leading her to record it with the acclaimed producer Phazz Clark.

The track delivers a lively hip-hop beat with a bouncy kick and catchy lyrics. Dr. A sings positive words of encouragement with soulful vocals and drops a several savvy hip-hop bars while connecting with young listeners that have experienced difficulty in dealing with their peers due to the condition. ”Cruise With a Purpose” is an amusing and ingenious way to rally awareness and support for a condition that touches many individuals from all backgrounds,” shares seasoned Indie Recording Artist music critic Mika Lucio. September is Alopecia Awareness Month, and tonight was all about bringing light to this important cause. Alopecia comes in so many different forms – you could lose a few patches of hair to a whole head. And it's often completely random! Loved sharing my story tonight and meeting some of the amazing individuals who helped make this night possible – thanks So much, and a special thanks to Dr. Amerson for hosting this amazing event!” A brief power point presentation was shared of before and after alopecia success cases. Attendees were also informed about Dr. Amerson’s Therapeutic Essentials. An attention getting product table was set up for purchases. The wow factor of custom table centerpieces were a BIG hit! HOW TO GET RID OF RAZOR BUMPS FAST AND EASILY By Anum Sharf

S

having is one of the easiest methods for removing unwanted hair, but if not done properly, it can lead to painful, itchy and unattractive razor bumps and in some cases can even cause ingrown hairs. This mainly happens when the hair sac gets infected with bacteria and causes redness and inflammation in that area.

Prevention Is The Best Cure

The best method to avoid razor burns is by avoiding

36

MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - Oct/Nov 2015

shaving. Shave as less as possible and if it is really necessary to shave, then make sure that the blade of the razor isn't dull as it can cause razor bumps. Also, you need to be careful not to shave if the skin is dry or the soap you are using is hard.

Here are some easy tips to get rid of razor burns quickly and easily: Cold Compress - Cold compress is the most effective technique to get rid of a razor burn. It helps by soothing

the area of irritation and reduces the inflammation. Wrap some ice cubes in a towel and place them over the affected area for a few minutes. And if you don't have ice cubes, then soak towel in cold water and put it on the affected area, it will soothe the pain and reduce the redness. Tea Tree Oil - Tea tree oil consists antibacterial properties and this makes it highly useful for preventing razor burns, infections and bumps. Cucumber - Cucumber is another cool remedy for getting rid of razor burns, the anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties present in the cucumber helps in dealing with razor bumps. Vitamin K and C is present in cucumbers and these two play important role in relieving the itchiness and pain. Aloe Vera - Aloe Vera is another good choice for getting rid of razor bumps. The cooling and soothing nature of Aloe Vera will give you instant relief from the inflammation and the burning sensation of a razor burn. Additionally, Aloe Vera will also keep the skin smooth and moisturized which will speed up the healing process. Don't Shave Everyday - Along with the above given tips, another good remedy is prevention. Razor burns are no exception; if you are shaving regularly, then you are prone to get razor bumps. If you have rashes on your skin due to shaving then give your skin some time to heal and shave after a week. Use A Shaving Cream - Before you shave the hairs, apply a shaving cream. It will moisturize and soften the hairs on your skin, thus it will be easier for you to remove the hairs. Razor burns appear if your skin is prone to irritation or is dry. Once you have shaved apply a moisturizing cream so that it can reduce itchiness and redness and decrease the risk of razor burns. Here is an interesting and informative article on how to get rid of razor bumps fast, read it and get rid of razor bumps easily Article Source: How To Get Rid Of Razor Bumps Fast And Easily www.MidwestBlackHair.com
