he Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, also known as Magic, does not operate as a typical military aircraft unit. They have a unique mission that only the crew and the unit can carry out. Magic, stationed on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan flies two types of commercial derivative military airplanes: UC-35D (Cessna Citation 560) and UC-12W (Beechcraft King Air 350). These airplanes provide aviation support to transfer time-sensitive, high priority passengers, parts, and cargo all around the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. This includes moving service members into or out of exercises as well as bringing parts for aircraft that need maintenance. The call sign, Magic, was adopted because UC-35 and UC-12 aircraft seem to magically appear for support when needed. Another unique trait of Magic is that they hold a safety record of more than 100,000 mishap free flight hours. “Our maintainers are civilians and are considered the best in the operational support aircraft community. I can’t

emphasize how special and how vital those maintainers are to our safety records,” said Maj. A. Drew Ramey, the squadron’s executive officer and aircraft maintenance officer (AMO). Capt. Benjamin Vigil, the aircraft safety officer (ASO) for Magic, states that the unit abides by a culture of professionalism. For every single flight they take, the aircrew, maintainers, operations officer, ASO, AMO and commanding officer conduct a thorough risk assessment brief where they identify potential hazards to flight, and what they can do to mitigate those hazards to complete the mission. Some factors they look into are weather; maintenance; and condition of air crews such as stress level, fatigue, illness, and medication. Through pre-flight and post-flight briefs, it provides the unit with an opportunity for a safer, and more professional, culture of operations.

he first Girl Scout troop on Okinawa was called the Ryukyu Islands Girl Scouts (RIGS) and had the only non-American members of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America when it was founded in 1953. Girl Scouts in Okinawa exists today because of the efforts of one Okinawan man in his early 20s who was passionate in raising youth and rebuilding the post-World War II education system. Toshio Higa has been with the Girl Scouts for 65 years. Higa was teaching at Kitanakagusuku Middle School when Peggy Meares, the spouse of an U.S. service member, approached him at the school he was teaching. Meares, a Girl Scout leader, was also interested in helping children develop through life. Higa was mesmerized by the Girl Scouts’ motto, “to help people at all times.” He convinced the school principal that establishing Girl Scouts in Okinawa would benefit the female students in the future. The first Girl Scout troop started out with 15 scouts. By 1972, there were 60 troops with more than 1,000 scouts and 200 leaders. Higa, who worked at Camp Foster for more than 20 years with the Civilian Human Resource Office, is 88 years old,

looks back and reminisced, “I’m glad I did it. I hope there will be more cultural and friendship exchanges between the U.S. military and the Okinawan community like back in my days.” The legacy of the sisterhood that was created by Higa has been inherited by the younger generations for 65 years now. On March 4, Camp Courtney Girl Scouts were invited by their sister troops in Okinawa City to celebrate Hina Matsuri, also known as the Girl’s Day, to wish growth and happiness of young girls. Both Japanese and American Girl Scouts enjoyed teaching and learning different cultures. This cultural exchange has been going on since 1955. Lance Cpl. Christine Tregoning, a Marine from Camp Hansen, who co-leads the Camp Courtney Girl Scouts, shares her experience with the Okinawan sister troops. “I think that these interactions are wonderful. These events allow the girls to learn from one another and have fun at the same time. They learn all about cultural differences, and learn how to see the world from a different perspective. In the future, I hope that the cultural exchanges only increase. I think it’s wonderful to see such positivity and friendship,” said Tregoning.

“I’m afraid to go to sleep at night because I feel like every time I go to sleep, I’m worried that when I wake up, it was all a dream. I love it here.”
C
huck DeCesari, a retired Marine and a New Jersey native considers Okinawa his home after living in Okinawa for more than 30 years. “It’s where I belong; the weather, people, sand, and atmosphere – it’s comfortable,” expressed DeCesari. DeCesari first arrived on Okinawa in 1987 as a Marine with 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, stationed at Camp Schwab. In 2009, after 26 years of service, he retired as a Reconnaissance Marine with III Marine Expeditionary Force Special Operations Training Group. DeCesari describes Okinawan residents as humble, kind, and sincere and recalls they never singled him out. “In Okinawa, you earn your reception,” he explained. “You’re 8 — Spring 2018
going to get back what you give.” For more than 30 years, DeCesari has been involved in volunteering and contributing in some form or the other to his community. He holds a weekly English class, takes local children fishing, takes part in local cleanups, shows up as Santa Claus at local preschools every Christmas, and has served as a district chief twice in his community. Of all the outreach he does for the village and his community, one unique fact about DeCesari is that he holds a hunting license for nuisance animals; he hunts wild boar and crow that damage crops and turns them in to the Ogimi village office. Obtaining the hunting license was challenging as DeCesari explains, out of 12 students, only five of

them finished the first class. Becoming part of the hunting group was another challenge he faced after obtaining his license. When DeCesari first met with the local hunters, they were understandably reluctant to give membership to a newcomer and an outsider. Then, one of the members realized that DeCesari was a good friend of his late brother, and recommended DeCesari’s membership to the hunting group. Through persistence, trust, and friendship, DeCesari earned membership in the hunting group. In addition to hunting, DeCesari owns a fishing boat, Kaiyuu Maru, which he has been sailing for nine years. DeCesari usually takes his boat out over the weekend to go spearfishing, pole-and-line fishing, and sometimes takes out the local children to fish. He
has been part of the Haneji fishing union for the past eight years, which again did not come easy at first. Just as he earned his membership with the hunting group, it was his 20-year-old friendship with several fishermen, and his persistence that allowed him to join the union. “When I started meeting Okinawans, they really changed my opinion,” said DeCesari. “Unfortunately, my opinion was based on my uncle and grandparents. My opinion of Japan was already formed. I came over here (to Okinawa) thinking I wasn’t going to like it. Then I met a couple people out in Henoko. I started to see a different side of Okinawa – I met Okinawan people, and I learned to love Okinawa,” said DeCesari. He further explained that the village allowed him to be part of their community “they let me be part of the
fishing union, they let me hunt.” “Being in Okinawa, I have to live like I’m in Okinawa. If you want to be part of Okinawa, and want to be accepted, I think you have to live like you want to be accepted.” DeCesari grinned and said life here is “iianbee,” an Okinawan dialect meaning feeling good. “I’m afraid to go to sleep at night because I feel like every time I go to sleep, I’m worried that when I wake up, it was all a dream. I love it here.”

海兵隊退役後の人生

狩りに、釣りに、充実した毎日
ウチナーンチュの心を持つ 元海兵隊員 ニュ－ジャージ－州出身の元海兵隊員のチャック・デセ サリ氏は３０年以上住んでいる沖縄を自分の故郷だと 言い、 「ここには私の居場所がある。天気、住民、砂浜、そ れと雰囲気―居心地が良い」 と話す。 キャンプ・シュワブにある第３海兵師団第４海兵連隊所 属の海兵隊員として１９８７年に初めて沖縄を訪れた。 ２００９年、海兵隊員として２６年間の勤務を終え、第 ３海兵遠征軍特殊作戦訓練群所属の偵察員として退役 した。 沖縄の人は謙遜で、心優しく、誠実で、一度も差別された 事はないと話すデセサリ氏。 また、 「自分次第で沖縄の人 からの受け入れ方は変わる。やった分だけ自分に返って くる」 と説明する。デセサリ氏は３０年以上ボランティア に携わり、様々な活動を通して地域に貢献してきた。 15 — Spring 2018
彼は今でも毎週近所の人達のために英会話クラスを開 いたり、地域の子供達を魚釣りに連れて行ったり、地域 の清掃活動に参加したり、毎年クリスマスには地元の幼 稚園でサンタとして登場する。加えて、 これまでに２回、 地元の区長も経験している。 数多くのボランティア活動を行う中、独特な一面を持つ デセサリ氏は、狩猟免許を取得しており、大宜味村で害 獣駆除活動にも関わっている。害獣として扱われていて、 農作物を食い荒らすイノシシやカラスを駆除して、大宜 味村役場に引き渡している。狩猟免許の取得が困難で あったと話すデセサリ氏は、初日の狩猟者講習会で１２ 名中５名しか授業を終えることができなかったと説明す る。免許を取得し、地元の鳥獣被害対策協議会の対象鳥 獣捕獲員として入会する時も難しかったと話す。初めて 協議会に申し入れた時、当然のことだが、新来者で部外
害獣駆除活動以外にも、デセサリ氏は９年間乗り 続けている 「海優丸」 と名付けた漁船を所有して いる。週末になると船を出しスピアフィッシングや 一本釣りに出かけ、時には地域の子供達を船に乗 せ、魚釣りに連れて行ったりもする。 さらに、彼は羽 地漁業協同組合の一員であるが、その組合に入会 するのも初めは簡単ではなかったと話す。地元の 鳥獣被害対策協議会と同様、複数の漁師と２０年 間に渡るの友情と彼の努力のお陰で漁業協同組 合の一員になれた。 「沖縄の人と出会って、沖縄に対する意見が変わ った。あいにく、私の沖縄に対しての意見は祖父と 叔父の体験談に基づいていた。 日本に対しての意 見が既に出来ていた。沖縄に来た頃は沖縄を好き になれるとは思っていなかった。その後、辺野古の 住民と出会い、沖縄の違う部分が見えてきた。沖縄 の人に出会い、沖縄に愛着を抱くようになった」 と デセサリ氏は熱く語った。 また、住民として認めて くれ「漁業協同組合の一員として迎えてくれ、鳥獣 被害対策協議会にも参加させてくれてる」 と付け 加えた。 「沖縄にいると、 ここに居るように生活しないとい けない。島の一部になり、住民に受け入れて欲し いのであれば、受け入れてもらえるように過ごさ ないといけない。」デセサリ氏は笑顔で沖縄の生 活は「いいあんべー」 （沖縄の方言で良い気分と 意味する） と一言で表した。 「私は毎晩寝るのが怖 い。なぜならば、目が覚めた時、全てが夢であった のではないかと、心配してしまうからだ。私は沖縄 が大好きだ。」 2018年 春号— 11

arine Awarded for Rescuing Four Divers From Rip Current

1st Lt. Aaron Cranford, a supply officer with Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal on Jan. 8 for saving four divers who were caught in a rip current during a recreational dive at Onna Point, Okinawa, Japan on April 23, 2017. Cranford surfaced from a 35-minute dive and noticed three distressed divers caught in a surf zone about to be swept out to sea by a rip current. After he ensured his dive group had reached a safe point to exit the water, Cranford returned to the surf zone at risk to his own life to begin rescuing the divers one by one. “I could definitely tell that the divers were in distress,” said Cranford, a native of Fort Worth, Texas. “Their gear was not the way it should have been and they were waving their arms back and forth trying to get people’s attention.” One of the divers said he believes he wouldn’t be alive today without Cranford’s help. “I just knew I was going to die,” said Okinawa City, Okinawa native, Justin Kinjo. “My leg was stuck, I couldn’t get any air and as soon as I reached the surface, the waves pushed me back in – knocking my (air) regulator out of my mouth.” For his courageous actions, Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller awarded Cranford the highest non-combat decoration for heroism. “First Lieutenant Cranford is a superb representative of the United States Marine Corps,” said Maj. Gen. Craig Q. Timberlake, the commanding general for 3rd Marine Division. “His actions took a lot of guts and a lot of courage. His actions reflect a United States Marine, doing what a United States Marine does.”

海 兵隊員が水難事故 でダイバー４人を 救助し勲章を受章 ひとりの海兵隊員の勤務外にとった勇敢な行為に対して、 米国で非戦闘時に授かることのできる最高峰の勲章が １月８日に授与された。 キャンプ・シュワブにある第３海兵師団所属のアーロン・ クランフォード中尉は、恩納ポイントでダイビングを楽し んでいた際、離岸流に流された沖縄県民を含む４人のダ イバーを救助した功績により、海軍・海兵隊勲章を授与さ れた。 クランフォード中尉は２０１７年４月２３日、３５分間 のダイビングを終え、海面に浮上すると、今にも離岸流で 沖に流されそうなダイバーたちに気づいた。 クランフォード中尉は一緒に潜っていた仲間が安全に海 から上がるのを確認すると、 自分の危険をも顧みず再び 海に戻り、流されていくダイバーたちを一人ずつ救助し始 めた。 テキサス出身のクランフォード中尉は「間違いなく彼ら は水中でもがいていて、装着していたダイビングギアは 乱れ、誰かの注意を引こうと、必死に腕を振ってた」 と 説明した。 救助されたダイバーの一人は、 クランフォード中尉の助け がなければ、今頃生きてはいなかったと話す。 沖縄市在住の金城ジャスティン氏は「このままでは死んで しまうと思った。足が固まり、ボンベの酸素がからになっ たので海面に出ると、押し寄せてくる波で沖のほうに流さ れ、波の勢いで口元のレギュレーターも外れてしまった」 と当時を説明する。 米海兵隊総司令官のロバート・ネラー大将は、 クランフォ ード中尉の勇敢な行為に対して、非戦闘勲章としては最 高峰の勲章を授与した。 第３海兵師団司令官のティンバーレイク少将は「彼は海 兵隊の素晴らしいお手本だ。彼の行動には多大なる勇気 が必要で、海兵隊員としての鏡だ」 と賞賛した。

University Students Tour Behavioral Health Facility Aboard Camp Foster
県内大学生 キャンプ・フォスターの 問題行動支援施設 を訪問
Okinawa International University students attended a seminar at the Substance Abuse Counseling Center, Feb. 15 aboard Camp Foster.
沖縄国際大学の学生らが、２月１５日にキャンプ・フォスタ ーにある薬物乱用カウンセリングセンターでセミナーを受 けた。
The seminar presented the 23 students with information on the different types of programs offered to service members and their families in Okinawa.
参加した２３名の学生らは、軍人やその家族に提供されて いるプログラムについて学んだ。
“It is good to have the university students come on base,” said Maki Takahashi, a clerk at the substance abuse counseling center. “Japan and the United States have different approaches to behavioral health system. By having the university students here, it gives them the opportunity to see other available programs.” The students learned about the various programs offered, to include community counseling, family advocacy, and substance abuse counseling. “I was impressed to learn about the supportive services the military service members are able to access,” said Kanon Tamamoto, an Okinawa International University student. This marked the ninth year university students attended the seminar. During the seminar, students were taken to each section of behavioral health and explained the individual role the section plays in prevention and care of its Marines and Sailors. “I want more people to understand that these kind of supportive services are available,” said Tamamoto. “This was a good reference to learn about the services that I can offer across Okinawa in the future.” 11 — Spring 2018
薬物乱用カウンセリングセンターで働く高橋マキ氏は「大 学生達が問題行動支援施設に来てもらえる事は良い事だ と思う。 日本とアメリカは問題行動の取り組み方が違ってい るので、大学生がこの施設に来る事で様々なプログラムが 見られる良い機会だと思う」 と話した。 学生らはコミュニティーカウンセリングプログラム、家庭生 活カウンセリング、そして薬物乱用カウンセリングプログラ ムといったサービスが提供されていることを学んだ。 「軍人達がアクセス出来る支援サービスについて学べて 感心した」 と沖縄国際大学生の玉元カノン氏は語った。 沖縄国際大学の学生が同セミナーに参加して、今回で９年 目になる。セミナーでは、様々な問題行動の分野を訪れ、各 分野が担う海兵隊員や海軍兵への予防やケアの役割につ いて学んだ。 玉元氏は「もっと多くの人にこのような支援サービスがある 事を知ってもらいたい。今回学んだ支援内容を参考にして、 今後沖縄でも活用していきたい」 と話した。

One Year Since the Deployment of F-35B Lightning II It has been a year since Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 moved from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. The squadron, belonging to Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, operates 16 F-35B Lightning IIs, and became the first forwarddeployed squadron to have the Marine Corps’ stealth fighter jet.

With the unique capabilities of short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL), unlike any other supersonic stealth aircraft, the F-35Bs have already replaced some F/A-18C Super Hornet and AV-8B Harrier squadrons. The F-35B has a mission radius greater than that of the legacy aircraft. By combining the STOVL capability of the Harrier with the speed and range of the Super Hornet, the F-35B can perform the missions of both aircraft. “Having the F-35B aircraft here increases our capabilities of bilateral partnership,” Maj. Michael O’Brien, future operations officer for MAG-12, explains.

The F-35B is a highly-capable, fifth-generation fighter which brings strategic agility, operational flexibility, and tactical supremacy to III MEF in support of the Japan-U.S. alliance. Having the F-35 in the Pacific enables the Marine Corps to support our regional partners during crises by enabling our forces to perform a wide range of missions across multiple domains. The F-35B represents the United States’ commitment to the defense of Japan with the most capable and modern equipment in the U.S. inventory, according to Col. Charles Dockery, 1st MAW chief of staff. As the Marine Corps led the first overseas deployment of the F-35Bs to MCAS Iwakuni in Yamaguchi last January, the Air Force deployed their F-35As to Kadena Air Base on Okinawa last November. Amid growing tensions in the region, Japan commissioned their first series of F-35As to Misawa Air Base in January. Japan’s Ministry of Defense Public Affairs Office commented that “in the midst of increasing tensions from national security threats surrounding Japan, having the most modern, advanced and highlycapable F-35Bs forward-deployed in Japan shows the U.S.’ firm commitment to the Japan-U.S. alliance, reinforcing the deterrence of the alliance and contributing to the security of Japan, as well as of the Asia-Pacific region.” The F-35Bs’ first shipboard operational deployment with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is scheduled to embark on the Navy multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD-1) this year.

日本配備１周年を迎えたF-35B ライトニングII 第１２１海兵戦闘攻撃中隊（VFMA-121）がアリゾナ州の海 兵隊ユマ航空基地から岩国航空基地へ移駐し、第三海兵遠 征軍（III MEF）第一海兵航空団（1-MAW）、第１２海兵航空群 （MAG-12）所属部隊となって、1年になる。VFMA-121はF-35B ライトニングIIを１６機所有し、海兵隊の最新鋭ステルス機とし ては初の国外配備となる。 これまでの超音速ステルス戦闘機にない短距離離陸・垂直着陸 （STOVL） というユニークな能力を持つF-35Bは、F/A-18Cスー パーホーネットおよびAV-8Bハリアーの後継機となる。F-35Bは F/A-18CとAV-8Bより広域な戦闘行動範囲を誇る。 さらに、F-35B はハリアーのSTOVL能力とスーパーホーネットの速度と航続距 離を併せ持ち、両戦闘機の任務遂行が可能。 「F-35Bの日本配備は同盟力を高める」 と話すのはMAG-12の 将来作戦課長マイケル・オブライアン少佐。 高い能力を持つ第五世代戦闘機F-35BはIII MEFにおける戦略 的敏捷性、運用上の柔軟性、戦術的優越性をもたらし、 日米同 盟を支援する。太平洋地域にF-35が配備される事で、海兵隊は 複数の分野にわたって幅広い任務を果たし、危機の際に地域 の同盟国を支援する事が可能になる。米国における最も有能 で最新の航空機F-35Bを日本に配備することは、 日本の防衛に 対する米国政府の深い関与を表していると、1-MAWの参謀長 チャ－ルズ・ダーカリー大佐は話す。

去年１月、海兵隊のF-35Bが国外で初の配備先となる山口県岩 国航空基地に到着し、同年１１月には空軍仕様のF-35Aが嘉手 納飛行場に配備された。地域の緊張状態が続く中、今年１月に は航空自衛隊の三沢基地にもF-35Aが配備された。 防衛省の広報官はF-35Bの日本配備について次のようにコメン トしている。 「わが国を取り巻く安全保障環境がいっそう厳しさ を増す中、 もっとも現代的かつ高度な能力を有するF-35B戦闘 機がわが国にへ配備される事は日米同盟に対する米国のゆる ぎないコミットメントを示すものであり、同盟の抑止力を強化 し、わが国及びアジア太平洋地域の安全に関与するものと考え ています。」

Reflecting on 2017 Community Relations Events In 2017, the Marine Corps on Okinawa participated in 1,135 total events. Events include: teaching English to students; having cultural exchanges with local communities; cleaning up beaches and cities; playing sports with youth groups; and giving tours of Marine bases.
Camp Foster The Marines from Camp Foster volunteered to ensure the safety of local elementary students by assisting with crosswalk duties. Camp Foster also held their annual Comic Convention, which hosted approximately 19,000 attendees.
Camp Schwab The local community enjoyed experiencing an Easter egg hunt aboard Camp Schwab. Marines participated in the traditional dragon boat race that has been going on for more than 100 years. Camp Schwab also held weekly cultural and English exchanges with local communities.
Camp Hansen mcas Futenma More than 50 local residents were invited to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma English class’ summer party where Marines and the students enjoyed deepening their friendship over food and fun activities. Futenma also had cultural exchanges with the local community and celebrated Thanksgiving together.
Camp Kinser Camp Kinser hosted a friendship softball event which U.S. Consul General Joel Ehrendreich and Urasoe Mayor Testuji Matsumoto participated in. Additionally, Kinser’s Single Marine Program participants attended the annual Tedako Festival in Urasoe to take part in performances. 7 — Spring 2018
Having folded 1,000 origami cranes, the Marines presented them to a local nursing home to wish them good health and longevity. Camp Hansen Marines volunteered in monthly cleanup projects around Kin Town. Camp Hansen also held their annual holiday party and invited the local community to share holiday traditions.
Camp Courtney Every week, Marines from Camp Courtney volunteered to teach English to the Uruma community. Camp Courtney also took part in a driving safety campaign with the local police and elementary students by handing out posters and driving safety charms to the drivers passing by. The Marines also visited local communities to introduce Halloween. 2018年 春号— 6
２０１７年地域活動を振り返って ２０１７年、在沖海兵隊は様々な地域活動を実施した。英会話クラス、地 域住民との文化交流、ビーチや地域の清掃活動、青年とのスポーツ交流、 及び米軍基地内の見学案内など計１、１３５件のイベントを展開した。
キャンプ・フォースター
キャンプ・フォースターの海兵 隊員らはボランティアで北谷町 にある小学校近くの横断歩道で 地元の方々と子供達の通学安 全を見守った。 また、今年もキャ ンプ・フォースターでコミック・ コンベンションが行われ、１万 ９千人以上の方々が訪れた。
キャンプ・シュワブ
キャンプ・シュワブでは、地域住 民を招き、イースター（復活祭） の行事、 「エッグ・ハント」を楽 んだ。 また、今年も辺野古区で １００年以上も続いている伝統 行事「ハーレー」に参加した。加 えて、海兵隊員は毎週英会話ク ラスと文化交流に力を入れた。
キャンプ・ハンセン 普天間基地
普天間基地が主催する英会話ク ラスのサマー・パーティーに５０ 名以上の生徒達が参加し、食事 や楽しい催しで交流を深めた。 ま た、文化交流で地域の方々と共に 感謝祭を祝った。
キャンプ・キンザー
キャンプ・キンザーでは、在沖 米総領事のジョエル・エレンラ イク氏と浦添市長の松本哲治 氏らを招き、野球を通して親交 を深めた。 また、海兵隊員らは 浦添てだこまつりで琉装し、浦 添三大王統まつりで会場を練り 歩いた。 5 — Spring 2018
キャンプ・ハンセンの海兵隊員ら は千羽鶴を折り、健康と長寿を願 い、地元の老人ホームへ寄贈し た。 また、毎月の地域清掃活動に ボランティアで参加。 さらに、毎年 恒例のクリスマス・パーティーを 開催し、地元住民を招待して、祝 日の伝統を共有した。
キャンプ・コートニー
キャンプ・コートニー所属の海兵 隊員らは、毎週うるま市内で英会 話クラスをボランティアで教えた。 また、地元警察や小学生と共に 交通安全キャンペーンに参加し、 通行中の運転手に交通安全のポ スターやお守りを手渡した。 さら には、地域を回りハロウィーンを 紹介した。 2018年 春号— 4

月間でアメリカの伝統と歴史を学ぶ アメリカでは毎月定められたテーマに沿 い、文化、伝統、歴史、そして社会問題など を１ヶ月に渡って祝い、学ぶ習慣がある。

毎年アメリカでは３月は女性史月間。１９ ８０年代にアメリカ合衆国議会で認定さ れた。歴史上の出来事、あるいは現代社会 の出来事に対して女性が行った貢献に焦 点をあてると定められた月間である。

毎年4月は性的暴行防止月間としているア メリカ。1970年代にアメリカのペンシルベ ニア州フィラデルフィアで始まった社会運 動。 レイプや性的暴行のことを知り、防止す ることを目的としたこのキャンペーン期間 である。
５ 月
アメリカでは毎年５月はアジア太平洋文 化記念月間。１９７０年代にアメリカ合衆 国議会で認定された。 アジア系、太平洋諸 島系アメリカ人社会がアメリカの国民生活 をどのように形成してきたを振り返る月間 である。
