The project explores alternative design approaches towards housing which give environmentally, economically and socially sustainable solutions to the challenges of the exponentially growing cities of the future. The wider urban strategy focuses on densifying areas around the stations of the proposed new metro line thus encouraging use of sustainable transport means and better social connections within a neighborhood. A series of mixed-use blocks is proposed which are perceived as a continuation of the city rather than isolated objects. A publicly accessible ramp elevates all users to the various levels of the structure where one finds access to train platforms, small-scale shops, street vendors, offices, cafes, residential and green areas.

Tales from a rickshaw I was in the lead of a group movie which we developed throughout the year and which sets out to present the history, culture and issues of Calicut not so much through the raw data we extracted but through the perspective of the common man as a final ‘’user’’ of the built environment. Street Pavilion small-scale urban intevention in St Davids The proposal celebrates the freedom of walking throughout the urban area of St Davids by taking a narrow alley in the tiny city and developing it to a multi-levelled pavilion. The small intervention introduces a few elevated paths and spaces, which look over the urban street – this way, unlocking the area and creating an improvised stage.

CinemaLab cinema and theatre house in St Davids The proposal picks up on the themes explored in the Street Pavillion and investigates them on a larger urban scale, celebrating the freedom, spontaneity and surprises we experience when walking on the street. The design creates a Cinema and Theatre House which pays respect to the traditional architecture of St Davids, but also captures the peculiar colorful unconventionality of the cinema.
