1. It’s all about the hen - keep her at the centre of attention, always. 2. Choose an activity that will be two things enjoyable and memorable. 3. Delegate the planning to no more than three people - we all know how ‘too many cooks in the kitchen’ pans out... 4. Consult with the hen on her social media preferences. Some may want a live stream of tagged photos, others may be a little more private. 5. Who said there can only be one do? Try a wild hen night with the girls, then a tamer do to celebrate with the family. 6. Guest list is key, so tailor activities accordingly. The hen might love a stripper but will her future mother-in-law be as keen? 7. Ensure all party members are comfortable with the budget, nobody wants to feel priced out. 8. Find a hotel in the city centre or near activities. trying to herd a group of tipsy hens in and out of taxis could be a challenge. 9. Allow for time in between your activities. HOW WE MET We were both on separate nights out, when Jonny spotted me in the Treasury, Plymouth. He waited for my friend to go to the toilet before “accidentally� stepping on my toes - twice!
We got talking and he asked if I wanted to see his bruised bottom (I thought I misheard...and being polite said yes). He proceeded to pull down his jeans to reveal the most horrific bruise I have ever seen and although I was extremely sympathetic I did wonder whether we were going to get thrown out! It was obviously a good chat up line because seven years later we had our amazing wedding day, where the story on how Jonny got the whopper of a bruise was revealed to all in his wedding speech! 20

THE PROPOSAL Jonny surprised me with a trip to Rome as a Christmas present in 2012. In the January he asked my Dad for his permission to marry me. He then told my mum and had a ring my dad bought for her in 1976 resized (it’s beautiful and sentimental). That March we arrived in Rome and Jonny took me to top of The Spanish Steps. As we sat and watched the world go by, he turned to me with the ring in his hand and asked if I would become his wife.
MOST MEMORABLE WEDDING DAY MOMENT Jonny’s most memorable moment was when he turned to see me walking down the aisle (he thought I looked beautiful). For me, it was when we were enjoying our meal, I remember looking down the room at all of our guests and thinking “wow” all of these people made the effort for us. I felt extremely lucky. Also, the speeches were fantastic, Jonny made me cry happy tears, I will never forget the lovely things he said. WEDDING THEME We had an Italian/travel theme. The tables were named after places in Rome. We had bowls of cut lemons with flowers as our centrepieces and limoncello as favours for our guests.

FUNNIEST WEDDING DAY MOMENT The very talented Black Jack Davey had the dance floor filled all night. At one stage of the night he persuaded a number of men to gather in a circle, Jonny had to show off his best moves in the middle and then pick someone to take over. My Uncle Michael was nominated (he’s in his 50s and is over 6 foot tall). He rather casually walked into the circle, started off dad dancing and then decided to forward roll into a break dance (I think he struggled to walk the next day.) It was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time, If only it was caught on camera! Black Jack Davey brought a lot of fun to the evening, there was a fantastic atmosphere and every single person had a smile on their face. FIRST DANCE Randy Newman’s You’ve Got a Friend in me (played on the Toy Story movies). The words were very true to our life and situation. At times organising a wedding can be stressful and there’s no doubt that they can be very expensive, however in my opinion it was worth every penny and every sleepless night! It truly was the best day ever. Now we wish we could relive it all over again - so much so that we’re a little bit tempted to renew our vows and have a party every year!
HONEYMOON We spent a fabulous week in stunning Sorrento a perfect honeymoon after a perfect wedding.
