The 2020 LECOM Suncoast Classic continued in its five-year commitment to the region as it provided another opportunity for skilled professionals to enter the PGA TOUR. This year, Andrew Novak birdied the 17th and 18th holes finishing 22-under par on the final day of the multi-day contest to win his first professional victory at the Korn Ferry Tour LECOM Suncoast Classic. The Korn Ferry Tour identifies and develops players who are prepared to compete and win on the PGA TOUR with all 50 available PGA TOUR cards coming through its events. After the success of the inaugural LECOM Suncoast Classic, the widely received tournament returned to the Korn Ferry Tour (previously the Web.com Tour) during the week of February 10-16, 2020. The Lakewood National Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch, Florida again hosted the 144 professionals competing for a $600,000 purse and a chance to contend against the best golfers on the PGA TOUR. The LECOM Suncoast Classic made its debut on the annual schedule in 2019, naming Mark Hubbard as its first champion. Hubbard shot an impressive 26-under par to secure the victory. After receiving his PGA TOUR card in August, Hubbard finished just short of his first PGA TOUR victory at the Houston Open, finishing in second place. Hubbard credited the LECOM Suncoast Classic as being instrumental in his success. “I thought that I would have to build all year to get into position to win, but to win it at the

Speaking at the pre-event reception, LECOM Provost, Vice President, and Dean of Academic Affairs, Silvia M. Ferretti, DO, affirmed that observation. “These professionals mirror the passion to be great; a passion evidenced by our fine LECOM scholars. For like the athlete, the scholar commits the whole of himself or herself to the calling of a lifetime,” she said.

Stalled only by a localized Florida shower and a brief, but rather dense fog, the week of sun, golf, and anticipation began with a welcome reception at the Lakewood Ranch Grove Restaurant, followed the next day by a Pro-Am Tournament, and finishing the week with the highly-awaited professional competition.
