performances, a live Graffiti mural being produced as well as Breakdance displays and lessons for children. On the run up to the event a chance meeting with DJ Format took place and this led to a more formal interview being arranged which we captured on film. DJ Format is a Sussex based DJ and producer who is very well regarded within the UK Hip-Hop scene as well as having an

“the four elements: Rapping, DJ’ing, Breakdance & Graffiti” international fan base and after being inspired by how down to earth and accommodating he was we decided to expand our ambitions for the exhibition footage and develop it into a documentary film. The brief for the film was to tell a story of local people’s experiences of Hip-Hop culture, to capture how it influenced them and to get their views on the current state of the Hip-Hop scene. The film features interviews with people who are recognised all over the world for their contribution to HipHop culture as well as insightful interviews with unsigned and independent artists who’s notoriety only goes as far as the UK HipHop scene. We spoke to Graffiti writers, promoters, DJ’s, producers and rappers to gather a wide range of views which explore the interviewee’s own very personal encounters with Hip-Hop, exploring how the culture has influenced and inspired them throughout their lives. The documentary also features a soundtrack of original music which was contributed by a number of the interview subjects. The film premiered at a film screening festival which took place at Colonnade House in Worthing in February 2018. The exhibition, the film screening and the final documentary film would not have been possible without the support from a number of organisations in Worthing. The exhibition was funded by the Worthing and Adur Commit to Culture Small Commissions Grant and Worthing Community Chest. These fantastic sources of funding made this project possible and has resulted in us being able to document our own contribution to Hip-Hop culture; we hope that you all enjoy the film. THE LANDLADY

ROAD BLOCK… t the grand age of 54, I'm finally taking driving lessons. I drove (fearlessly and somewhat illegally) in Stoke on Trent at the age of 17 and, apart from a bit more illegal driving in Africa 5 years ago, have not taken to the wheel since. There are various reasons for this. Timing an hour and a half of driving into my already busy schedule is more of a challenge than squeezing into the smallest parking space. Then there's the cost. It's quite astronomical, especially when you compare it to the miniscule prices back in the heady days of the 1980s, when I should, realistically have taken my test. Trouble is, I was too busy gothing about and dancing in a weird and embarrassing way to Bauhaus, and the like. However, driving has become rather more pressing of late as The

“ I was too busy gothing about and dancing in a weird and embarrassing way to Bauhaus, and the like.”

The Cuban could do all the driving, but in the typical style of a whingeing man, insists on setting out at the ungodly hour of 6 in the morning (not much of a bloody holiday), to 'avoid the sun'. He'll then spend the remainder of the day complaining that he's tired because he's 'been driving all day'. As - I think - a hardier breed of driver, I'd imagine I could cope very well with setting out at 9am, then dancing welcoming the wee hours, in spite of 'driving all day'. I am taking lessons in secret and can't wait to reveal my new skill. I'd imagine The Cuban will then have to find something else to complain about. My driving, for instance…

Cuban Boyfriend and I are planning to set up a business driving tourists around Cuba in a big, American car. Yes, it's the stuff of pipe dreams really. The kind of plan you can ruminate about for months and months without actually doing anything. Trouble is, because of me and my big mouth, we have an actual booking for early next year, driving a couple around for 10 days. I've already done The itinerary and I'm looking forward to showing people The rarer side of Cuba that most tourists never see.

at home I always set off the smoke alarms and disturb the neighbours. These came with mixed grains and leaves. Now that sort of scared me but actually on arrival I was rather pleased with the combination of unusual greenery and trendy grains, really tasty, as was the herb yoghurt dressing, predominantly and appropriately minty. The chops were good, properly French trimmed, the fat properly rendered and crisp and the eye of the meat pink and succulent. It was generous too, none of your dainty portions here and thank heavens for that. Desserts chosen were on the light side, a sorbet for Mr B and some fresh fruit for me, both okay but no challenge for the kitchen and our choices dictated by being rather full from courses one and two. We drank a bottle of Viognier, good choice with all our dishes and not stupidly expensive by modern standards. The room is light and airy, the service charming and the whole experience rather good. Prices are sensible, not bargain basement but not over-inflated either. All in all a very pleasant experience. 12 Brighton Square, Brighton BN1 1HD 01273 900731 coppaclub.co.uk/brighton

y first visit to Coppa Club was somewhat marred by feeling unwell, and in truth I have always resisted writing up launch parties, after all, you were perhaps not there for what at the end of the day is a one off event. Leaving a dignified period for the place to settle in I went along with Mr B for a latish lunch after a busy morning in front of the Latest TV cameras. It was an unseasonably hot day and sitting in the window with the sun on my back made up for not being able to sit outside on the somewhat controversial terrace, which in my view now makes the best use of a rather good outside space. The menu is refreshingly short, not so many dishes that one queries how the offering could be fresh. In addition there are some classic dishes that defy fashion but do so with class. Hence Mr B throughly enjoyed his

“After gorging myself on meat & sucking the heads I sat back” fine chicken liver pâté and loved the apple brandy infused chutney that came with it. It looked good, smooth and delicate and he scoffed the lot. I went equally old school with the king prawns with garlic and chilli. Firstly the prawns were big, king size, second they were cooked perfectly, firm but tender and finally there was the right amount of chilli and garlic for the taste of the crustacea to not be masked by the heat of the spice. The bread was good too and after gorging myself on the meat and sucking the heads dry I mopped up and sat back. Sometimes simple pleasure hit just the right note. Mr B went on to enjoy the trout. It was in fact sea trout and a generous tranche too. He loved the crisp skin which he described as fish crackling, and the accompanying fregola was equally pleasing. On the side he chose a dish of aubergine with miso and sesame which he really enjoyed. I saw lamb cutlets and could not resist. I love lamb but cooking cutlets

Unfortunately for Ray, his calamitous committee quickly divides, as his wife Helen has a bone to pick… Add a Marxist schoolteacher, a military dog-breeder and an octogenarian secretary, and the table is set for one of comedy master Ayckbourn’s most hilarious plays. This tumultuous comedy by committee is not to be missed. The cast is led by TV and stage actor Robert Daws, who is perhaps most recognised for his role as Dr. Gordon Ormerod in The Royal as well as his time in other hit shows such as Poldark, Outside Edge and Roger Roger. Joining him is Deborah Grant, best known for playing Wendy in Not Going Out and Deborah Bergerac in Bergerac. Emmerdale and Holby City star Gemma Oaten is joined by Robert Duncan of Drop The Dead Donkey fame and theatre veteran Mark Curry, well known for his appearances in Hollyoaks and as Kevin in Last Of The Summer Wine. e are all one step away from being homeless” The quote that reminds us, it could happen to anyone! Sussex Homeless Support based in Brighton is headed by Jim Deans and this documentary balances a probe into the the issues faced by the organisation and the people they help. Jim and the team travel round local shops and supermarkets collecting food waste and provisions. Jim keenly mentions the local support the organisation receives and the public compassion to help. Volunteers cook and serve hot food and drinks at the Street Kitchen. In five years the number of people in need of food had risen from 20 to 150! For those needing a change of clothes - donated clean items are regularly provided. Tents and bedding are distributed on the streets often late into the night for those in need. Anything left goes to help the wider community in Calais. The night bus service provides a space for safety and sleep.
