What is it? The Eliminate Project is a joint project of Kiwanis International and UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the Earth. Many women die due to maternal tetanus and the effects of the disease are excruciating—tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. The project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. In addition, it is not costly to save these mothers and their babies from MNT. With just a $1.80, you could save a mother and her baby from MNT!

When is it? May 4-8, 2015

How to plan? 1. Get things started 

Learn about the Eliminate Project and educate your club.  Share the information about the Eliminate Project with your club!  Talk to your advisor or principal to get approval to host a Key Club Eliminate Week. 2. Plan your week  Here’s a few ideas to get your club involved: o Spirit days and carnation: Mother’s Day is weekend after Eliminate Week. Raise funds by having a carnation sale or even just spirit days at school

o Have friendly competition between grades regarding different topics such as sports teams or what the best grade is! o But REMEMBER to:  Set clear goals!  Outline what you need to do to accomplish your club’s week of activities. 3. Educate your audience  Include information about Key Club Eliminate Week in the school paper or announcements.  Make and hang posters 4. Wrap up  Gather the funds that your Key Club raised at the end of the week  Deposit the funds in the bank and write out a check to the Eliminate Project  Submit your check with the Kiwanis family giving form. (On the “donor to be accredited” line, note the funds were collected during Eliminate Week  Write your Club name or number on the memo line of the check to receive recognition for your efforts!  Send donations to: The Eliminate Project: Campaign office Kiwanis International Foundation 3636 Woodview Trace Indianapolis, IN 46268 USA

It’s the little things that make a big impact— At the Ronald McDonald House families can enjoy: Home-cooked meals Private bedrooms Playrooms for children Depending on the House, these services may also be available: Special suites for children with suppressed immune systems Accredited education programs Recreational activities Non-clinical support Sibling support services The generosity of volunteers and donors make it all possible. In return, families either stay at no cost or are asked to make a donation up to $25 per day, depending on the house. The RMHC Global Policy is that families are never turned away; it it’s not possible to pay, the fee is waived

Families travel far from home in order to receive treatment for their ill or injured children. Having to travel can add many expenses, in addition to the hospital fees, which could put families in hard conditions. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-fromhome” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. This not only helps families to stay close to their children in their scary times, but it gives kids strength and support knowing their mom and dad are always near. Based on a simple idea that nothing else should matter when families are healing their children, the Ronald McDonald House believes that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, parents are able to communicate with their child’s medial team and keep up with treatment plans when needed. Parents are able to focus on their child rather having to worry about food, cleaning or other house work. They sponsor many other organizations and are located in many locations within the United States and all over the world! 8 Locations in the K-T District!  Chattanooga, TN  Knoxville, TN  Nashville, TN  Southern Appalachia, Johnson City, TN  Lexington, KY  Louisville, KY  Cincinatti, OH (Northern KY)  Huntington, WV Contact your local Ronald McDonald House today!
