Words from the Governor Hey, guys! I'm Claire, and I have the pleasure of serving you as the Kentucky-Tennessee District Governor! I want to tell y'all a little about myself before getting down to the Key Club business. I am a senior at Rossview High School in Clarksville, TN. I play the piano and show cattle, and I love yearbook, student council, and speech & debate. And, of course, my favorite activity is Key Club! I love the work that Key Club does, and the compassion of its members. I am inspired by you guys all the time, and I am convinced that we truly are improving our homes, schools, and communities. Every selfless act of service and kind deed adds up to a better world. For Key Club to continue making this positive impact, it is imperative that our clubs, divisions, and district are run with integrity, optimism, and enthusiasm. These are traits I see Key Clubbers exhibit every day: when they honestly report their service hours, or get up at dawn on a Saturday to participate in a worthy project. In addition, the different levels of leadership must have consistent, effective communication. This means that club officers and Lieutenant Governors (LtG) should talk, and LtG's and district officers should stay in contact. Here's where I need your help - I can't come visit every one of your schools (as much as I would like to!), or oversee each of your officer's meetings. So I need you guys to monitor yourselves, asking questions like, "Have I communicated with my LtG lately?" and, "Are my club members really excited about service, or do they only want an application booster?". Resolving issues like these are the only way to ensure that your club has integrity, optimism, and enthusiasm. And, ultimately, remember that you can always ask questions! I know that the wealth of information Key Club disseminates can become confusing, and for that reason, there are no stupid questions. If you have inquiries, those may me directed to me, another district officer, or your LtG. I hope that each of you is excited about another successful and impactful year of Key Club service!

Words from the International Trustee Hello, Kentucky-Tennessee District! My name is Kacie Hines, and I have the honor of serving Kentucky-Tennessee for the 2015-2016 school year as an International Trustee. I am an upcoming senior at Vestavia Hills High School in Alabama. Along with serving my home, school, and community, I am an avid Netflix watcher. My Key Club journey began long before most. My mom became a faculty advisor when I was two years old, so Key Club was in my life long before I was ever allowed to be a part of it. I’ve gone from District Webmaster for half a year, to District Media Tech to District Governor, and now I’m here- serving as an International Trustee. Key Club has given me a way to channel my passion and I could not be more thankful to be a part of this amazing organization. What exactly is an International Trustee, and what is the importance of an International Board? That’s a very good question! An International Trustee is liaison from the International level to the District level. I send out biweekly International updates to make sure everyone is on the same page. We work to make the service year the best for every single member; we also work on various committees. This year I will be serving on the Executive Committee, as well as the International Development Committee, chaired by Trustee Anastasia Slepukhova.

If you have any questions about International or just want to talk feel free to contact me! Yours in Service, Kacie Hines International Trustee e: khines@alabamakeyclub.org

Families travel far from home in order to receive treatment for their ill or injured children. Having to travel can add many expenses, in addition to the hospital fees, which could put families in hard conditions. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-fromhome” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. This not only helps families to stay close to their children in their scary times, but it gives kids strength and support knowing their mom and dad are always near. Based on a simple idea that nothing else should matter when families are healing their children, the Ronald McDonald House believes that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, parents are able to communicate with their child’s medial team and keep up with treatment plans when needed. Parents are able to focus on their child rather having to worry about food, cleaning or other house work. They sponsor many other organizations and are located in many locations within the United States and all over the world!

ICON Indianapolis was truly amazing! After meeting fellow key clubbers from countries like Canada, Jamaica, and even students from every part of the United States, it made me realize the impact Key Club has on people. I not only grew as a person but as a district board member! I got to meet past district editors from different districts and got to learn tricks and tips which I will be putting to good use in future K-T Keys. During our free time, we were able to explore the city of Indianapolis. We were able to go the Circle Centre Mall, eat pancakes on Monument Circle, and watch a baseball game (as well as fireworks) at Victory Field! “International convention was a blast! For four days Kiwanis, Circle K, Aktion, and Key Clubs from across the globe celebrated all that the K-Family has done through the past 100 years. K-T had about 45 people on the tour plus many more who came on their own. However, there was actual business taken care of too, a new International board was elected with Rip Livingston, former K-T international delegate, becoming the new International President. -Syndey Anthony, Division 15 LTG
