Your State, Your Stories A new season of Truly CA begins.

New episodes of Check, Please! Bay Area begin Thursday, September 5, at 7:30pm on KQED 9.

Bay Area foodies’ favorite obsession hit 100 episodes earlier this year — and we’re still going strong. Check, Please! Bay Area returns this month with new episodes featuring many more of the Bay Area’s best eateries. In each episode, host Leslie Sbrocco (Thirsty Girl, Good Morning America) leads a lively discussion with three local diners about their favorite spots. Tune in and see if the guests agree about each other’s restaurants. Would you like to meet Leslie, the program’s production team and some of the guests? Join us at the KQED studios Wednesday, September 25, at 6:30pm to sample sumptuous tastes from Check, Please! Bay Area restaurants along with wonderful wines and other beverages. Join us this month for the ninth season of Truly CA: Our State, Our Stories, KQED’s Emmy Award–winning showcase of independent documentaries about California, featuring five new stories that could come only from the Golden State. The season kicks off with the delightful Rabbit Fever, a hare-raising story of five teenagers competing to win the top titles of Rabbit King and Queen at a rabbit pageant. Witch Hunt, narrated by Sean Penn, is the gripping investigation of working-class parents wrongfully convicted of abuse crimes in Bakersfield. Next, Stable Life chronicles an immigrant family’s struggle to achieve the American dream in the risky world of horse racing. Then, narrated by

Henry Rollins, Last Fast Ride: The Life, Love, and Death of a Punk Goddess is the portrait of controversial musician Marian Anderson, who led a troubled life until her tragic demise. The season concludes with a session in hip-hop therapy, as nine Oakland youth work to create a full-length album and perform a live concert in A Lovely Day. The ninth season of KQED’s Truly CA premieres Sunday, September 15, at 6pm on KQED 9.
