Canoe across the lake to the secluded Clark Creek falls and hike sections of the Pacific Crest Trail on this lovely weekend trip.

AO is excited to offer you a chance to backpack in this exotic location.

Come discover Whiskeytown Lake, where a bustling gold mining town once stood. This is a great opportunity to soak up some sunshine and history while enjoying the sport of sea kayaking.

Friday, September 2 – Sunday, September 4 CSU, Chico Student $97 | Faculty and Staff $107 | General $35 From Chico, we drive northeast to Lava Beds National Monument, home to a high-desert wilderness, vast lava fields, and an extensive network of more than 700 caves. An AO favorite, join us as we explore the vast underground network of caves. If you easily succumb to claustrophobia, we recommend a different trip as some of the cave passages can be very tight.

Saturday, October 8 CSU, Chico Student $34 | Faculty and Staff $44 | General $54 This trip will include a hike on the famed Pacific Crest Trail while enjoying views of Chips Creek. Eventually, the group will find a nice spot along the creek to enjoy some outdoor yoga and maybe even take a dip in the water.

We’ll take the weekend to explore a small corner of our local national park.

We will spend the weekend exploring the lake, practicing yoga, and taking in the beautiful scenery.

As you paddle through the waters of this pristine coastal inlet, you will discover breathtaking views and coastal wildlife while enjoying the company of your fellow sea kayakers.

This section of river features unique rock features and feels amazingly wild for being only an hour from campus.

SKI AND BOARD WAXING WORKSHOP Thursday, November 3 Free for CSU, Chico Students A properly waxed set of skis or snowboard can be the difference between an awesome day on the slopes or a day of struggling with your gear. Come by the equipment room and we’ll show you how to keep your snow gear in top shape.

SANTA CRUZ SURFING  Thursday, November 10 – Sunday, November 13 (Veterans Day weekend) CSU, Chico Student $199 | Faculty and Staff $209 | General $219 Enjoy three beautiful days on the beaches of Santa Cruz. Whether you ride giants or have never surfed before, fun is guaranteed. No formal surf instruction is provided, but our staff will be happy to give you some pointers. Participants should be able to swim in an ocean environment.

TRINITY ALPS BACKPACKING    Thursday, November 10 – Sunday, November 13 (Veterans Day weekend) CSU, Chico Student $70 | Faculty and Staff $80 | General $90 This will be an amazing 4-day, 3-night expedition into the Trinity Alps. Jutting rock spires and pristine alpine lakes make this an unforgettable backpacking destination.

TRAILS OF PARADISE HIKE  Friday, November 11 (Veterans Day) CSU, Chico Student $23 | Faculty and Staff $33 | General $43 Did you know Paradise is only 15 miles from Chico? Spend your Saturday with AO as we explore some hiking options near the town of Paradise, CA.

LOST COAST BACKPACKING   Saturday, November 19 – Wednesday, November 23 (Thanksgiving break) CSU, Chico Student $199 | Faculty and Staff $209 | General $219 The Lost Coast Trail is known for windswept beaches and stunning coastline. Let your mind and body fall into the captivating rhythm of the trail and the tides. Join us as we conquer this famous trail.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK HIKE AND CAMP   Sunday, November 20 – Friday, November 25 (Thanksgiving break) CSU, Chico Student $185 | Faculty and Staff $200 | General $215 Yosemite National Park is the crown jewel of California wilderness. Spend your Thanksgiving break with us on a weeklong adventure that you will never forget. We will hike 5–10 miles per day and camp out each night.

Saturday, September 24 – Sunday, September 25 CSU, Chico Student $55 | Faculty and Staff $65 | General $75 This trip will help prepare you to embark on your own outdoor climbing adventures. Topics covered may include site selection, anchor building, and movement on rock. Previous climbing experience or participation in one of our Introduction to Rock Climbing trips is recommended for participation.

MOUNT LASSEN SUMMIT CHALLENGE   Saturday, September 24 – Sunday, September 25 CSU, Chico Student $50 | Faculty and Staff $60 | General $70 We’re going to attempt to hike the southernmost active volcano in the Cascade Range, Mount Lassen! Whether we make it to the top or not, you will be rewarded by the challenging endeavor and beautiful scenery. Participants on this trip should be in good physical condition with prior hiking experience.

WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER RECERTIFICATION Friday, December 2 –Sunday, December 4 CSU, Chico Student $300 | General $330 Refresh your wilderness medical skills with this WFR-Recertification. Taught in partnership with NOLS WMI.
