Castle Crags Cycling Tour

Free Thursday Night Workshop - Map and Compass

Friday, November 14 – Sunday, November 16 CSU, Chico STUDENT $155 | FACULTY/STAFF $165 | GENERAL $175 This 40+mile overnight group cycling journey through the North State will follow the challenging Castle Crags metric century loop. All camping and personal gear will be shuttled but climbing 4,000+ feet is left to you. A strenuous experience and unforgettable accomplishment awaits! *Touring/Road bikes not included. Participants must have some previous cycling experience and be in good physical condition.

Yolla Bolly Backpacking Friday, October 3 – Sunday, October 5 CSU, Chico STUDENT $87 | FACULTY/STAFF $97 | GENERAL $107 In the Wintun Indian language, “yo-la” meant “snow covered,” and “bo-li” meant “high peak.” We won’t see any snow at this time of year, but we still think you’ll enjoy spending a weekend away from civilization in the Yolla Bolly Wilderness.

While other California rivers have dried up, the Class III section of the American River is still providing an exciting and fun time.

This section of river contains unique rock features and feels amazingly wild for being only an hour from campus.

Lava Tubes Caving and Camping Friday, October 24 – Sunday, October 26 CSU, Chico STUDENT $97 | FACULTY/STAFF $107 | GENERAL $117 Join us for the truly unique experience of exploring the vast underground network of caves at Lava Beds National Monument.

Chips Creek Backpack and Yoga Saturday, October 25 – Sunday, October 26 CSU, Chico STUDENT $35 | FACULTY/STAFF $45 | GENERAL $55 This trip will include a hike on the famed Pacific Crest Trail while enjoying views of Chips Creek. Eventually the group will find a nice spot along the creek to make camp and enjoy some outdoor yoga, and maybe even take a dip in the water.

Brokeoff Mountain Night Hike and Camp Saturday, October 25 – Sunday, October 26 CSU, Chico STUDENT $45│| FACULTY/STAFF $55│| GENERAL $65 For sheer beauty and rugged mountain scenery, the Brokeoff trail is one of the most rewarding hikes in Lassen National Park. Join AO as we ascend into the dark on this unforgettable nighttime adventure. Previous hiking experience and a moderate fitness level are recommended.

Bigfoot Backpacking Friday, October 31 – Sunday, November 2 CSU, Chico STUDENT $102 | FACULTY/STAFF $112 | GENERAL $122 The Redwoods of Northern California are well known to be an area frequented by the elusive Bigfoot creature, also known as Sasquatch. Join us as we take in the beautiful scenery on this three-day backpacking trip and hope to catch a glimpse of the large, hairy, human-like creature.

Join our skilled AO staff as they teach you the tricks and tips of mountain biking. Explore your own backyard as we travel the trails of Upper Bidwell Park in a new way! Unless otherwise noted, trip fees cover leadership, transportation, camping, and technical equipment like boats, climbing gear, etc. Unless otherwise noted, AO does not provide personal clothing, camping equipment, or food. If you need equipment for one of our trips, you can rent it from our rental center for 50 percent off the regular student rate!

WREC Climbing Gym 530-898-5867 www.aschico.com/wrec/climbingwall The WREC Climbing Gym boasts a 36-foot wall with 3,000 square feet of climbing space and 50 routes from beginner to expert. All climbing gear (harness, chalk, and climbing shoes) is free, and no experience is necessary. If you are just starting to climb or have some experience, we offer classes that can help you develop and hone your skills. Trainings are designed to teach indoor climbers safe and efficient practices that will enable them to start climbing outside. Stop by or call to see a list of trainings and dates.

Backcountry Yurt A yurt is a canvas and wood hut designed to protect campers from the elements, complete with a woodstove to keep you warm at night. Our yurt is located in the backcountry of Lassen National Forest near Butte Meadows, with access to great outdoor recreation. It is available to rent for $50 per night. Kayak Pool Sessions Free WREC pool sessions (WREC members and guests only) Every Thursday | 6 p.m.–8 p.m. in the WREC pool | Free Join us every Thursday evening to play in the pool with toys such as whitewater kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Pre-trip meetings are mandatory for participation in all outings. During the week of your outing, a short meeting is held to meet the other participants and get all the necessary information for your trip. These pre-trip meetings are to ensure you are adequately prepared for the outing. If you cannot attend your pre-trip meeting, you must contact the trip leader to get the necessary information. You may not be allowed to go on the trip if you have not attended the pre-trip meeting.

Custom Trips Custom trips are designed for campus organizations (e.g., clubs, dorms, fraternities, sororities) or other groups that want to have an outdoor experience together. AO will help you design the format of the trip (e.g., caving, backpacking, rafting), and our leaders will facilitate any special goals that you hope to accomplish, such as staff development or group bonding.
