This image depicts the molecular network of ~20,000 striatal genes from a mouse population modeling the natural spectrum of stress susceptibility. This Bayesian network was built by integrating genetic and gene expression data from more than 100 (B6xA/J)F2 mice, and the key driver nodes, which regulate the expression of the majority of the network, are labeled in red. Neurosphere: Neural stem cells, isolated from mouse brain, aggregate into a spherical structure called a neurosphere when grown in cell culture. The cells are capable of becoming mature neurons, as shown by red labeling. Understanding the differentiation and growth of neural stem cells is being pursued as a repair strategy for spinal cord and brain injury. This is a fluorescein angiogram of a patient with Sjogren's reticular dystrophy. The reticular pattern of opaque tissue at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium blocks choroidal fluorescence. Normal retinal blood vessels are seen overlying the retina. We have identified a candidate gene for this very rare disorder by whole-exome sequencing at Mount Sinai. Image by Scott E.
