On behalf of the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Service of the Desert (JFS), we welcome you to the tenth annual production of One Night Only, produced by the incomparable Michael Childers. Tonight, Michael presents “Sondheim In Love”, featuring some of legendary composer Stephen Sondheim’s most romantic songs. We are particularly delighted to welcome the enormously talented Lucie Arnaz as Director. We greatly appreciate the support that Lucie has given to JFS for a number of years. Under the exemplary leadership of Executive Director Maureen Forman, this year, JFS will provide mental health counseling, substance abuse prevention education, senior care and other critical services to more than 4,000 men, women and children, including 2,000 students in local elementary schools. We are also the largest provider of social services to the Jewish Community in the Coachella Valley. Your support tonight is crucial to helping JFS continue to provide quality services to those in need throughout the Valley. JFS is a nonsectarian, non-profit organization that provides an array of counseling and social services to those in need regardless of religion, age, income, gender, ethnicity or lifestyle. Much of the success of One Night Only tonight and for the last nine years can be attributed to the leadership of our extraordinary honorary co-chairs: Annette Bloch, Helene Galen, Barbara Keller, and. Harold Matzner. We extend our deepest appreciation to these wonderful community leaders for their longstanding support of both this event and of JFS. OUR MISSION Established in 1982, the mission of Jewish Family Service of the Desert (JFS) is to provide for the social service needs of the Jewish and general community throughout the greater Coachella Valley with a commitment to promote the well-being of persons of all ages, incomes and lifestyles.

MICHAEL CHILDERS

Michael Childers is one of the desert’s most successful producers of charitable fundraisers. This is the tenth production of One Night Only at the McCallum Theatre, an event he conceived and produced first in 2002, hosted by Lily Tomlin. He has raised nearly $13 million dollars for AIDS charities, museums, performing arts, and social services in Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and Palm Springs. Michael created the mixed media work for the Off-Broadway musical Oh! Calcutta! He was a founding photographer for Andy Warhol’s Interview and After Dark magazines. Other magazine covers include GQ, New York, TV Guide, Esquire, Los Angeles, Elle, Life, London Sunday Times Magazine, and Vogue. Michael’s photographic work is in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Palm Springs Art Museum, Chiat Day, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, Laguna Art Museum, Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Las Vegas Art Museum, the Marion Center for Photographic Arts in Santa Fe, the National Portrait Gallery in London, San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, the Chicago Public Library, the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the USC Doheny Library, Scripps Museum of Photography and the Seattle Art Museum. Michael produced his first Broadway show, Tradition: The Jewish Legacy of Broadway at the Gerald Lynch Theater in New York for the Actors Fund, which also played at the Pantages Theatre. His Author, Author show was exhibited at Harvard University last October. He has received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Hollywood Photography at the Temecula, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and Provincetown Film Festivals, and a Distinguished Photographer Award from the Palm Springs Art Fair. ANNETTE BLOCH

Annette Modell Bloch was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she lived until her marriage to Richard Bloch (the “R” of H&R Block Inc.). She has lived in Kansas City since her marriage and made Rancho Mirage her second home. She and Dick had three daughters, and now Annette has ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A breast cancer survivor and philanthropist, Annette is president of the R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation and oversees the Bloch Cancer Hotline. In Palm Springs, she is a trustee of the Palm Springs Art Museum. She has received the Palm Springs California Chamber of Commerce Athena Award for her commitment to helping others, a Meritorious Gold Palm Springs Star for her enduring and selfless contributions to charitable causes, the 100 Women Humanitarian Award from the Desert AIDS Project, and the Outstanding Philanthropist Award in 2012 from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is a great supporter of Gilda’s Club in Palm Desert and in 2013 she established the Annette Bloch Cancer Care Center for the Desert AIDS Project. In Kansas City, Annette’s work on behalf of heart and cancer patients has established the Richard and Annette Bloch Heart Rhythm Center, the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavilion and the Richard and Annette Bloch Radiation Oncology Pavilion at the University of Kansas Hospital. In 2013 Annette continued her commitment to cancer patients by funding the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Center at Truman Medical Centers. Last May, she received the 2015 Philanthropist of the Year Award.

HELENE GALEN

Helene Galen was born Helene Caro, in England, and she moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1958. She met her husband, Lou Galen and they were married in 1975. They had 32 happy years of marriage until he passed away in 2007. Helene had an interesting career in California, working as an Executive at Frederick’s of Hollywood, where she worked both in their advertising department and retail chain. Taking her retail experience with her, she later became vice-president and comptroller for Continental Distributors, a retail jewelry chain. Helene served on the Board of Trans World Bank in Sherman Oaks, a bank founded by her husband. They bought their Tamarisk home in 1980 from Zeppo Marx, which has been a family residence for the past 30 years. Helene has also been a member of several other Boards of Trustees including Eisenhower Hospital. While serving on the Executive Committee of the board of Tamarisk Country Club, she wrote the unique history of the early days in Palm Springs. Helene serves on the Board of Trustees at the University of Southern California, and serves on the Board of Overseers for the Keck School of Medicine and the USC Hospital. She is a member of the Councilors of the Fine Arts School where she and her husband established the Helene & Louis Galen Ceramic Studio, and the Helene Galen Intermedia Lab. The Galens were the major contributors to enable the building of USC’s Galen Center, a Basketball Arena that opened in 2006. She is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Palm Springs Art Museum, the McCallum Theater, the International Film Festival and is the Chairman of the Foundation Board of the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center. Helene participated in its founding 29 years ago. Helene Galen has two daughters and three grandchildren.

BARBARA KELLER

In New York, Barbara Keller was a theatre director, producer and business agent for film industry script supervisors and Board member for the North Shore Community Arts Center. Her books include Film, Tape and TV: Where Do I Fit In? and Orgasmic Days in the South of France, where Barbara and husband, Jerry, had a home for 18 years. In the desert, Barbara has served as Trustee for the Palm Springs Art Museum, McCallum Theatre and Jewish Family Service of the Desert. She is past president of the Museum Associates Council and has acted as chair for key Museum fundraising events. Barbara is Chair of the Board of the Desert AIDS Project, co-chairing seven Steve Chase Awards galas in addition to Dinner @ My Place. Barbara is on the advisory board of Sunshine Circle, connecting teenagers with Holocaust survivors, and Sanctuary Palm Springs, providing LGBT individuals a safe and supportive home. She feels privileged to share One Night Only Honorary Co-Chair status with Annette Bloch, Helene Galen, and Harold Matzner. Barbara gives kudos to Barbara Fromm and Terri Ketover, event chairs, for unselfishly donating their time and resources and to the invaluable, innumerable skills of Executive Producer Ken Katz, and to this year’s multi-talented director, Lucie Arnaz. Barbara is so appreciative of Michael Childers for his resolve to accept nothing less than excellence and triumph. What a team! What a One Night Only!

HAROLD MATZNER

Entrepreneur, humanitarian, and philanthropist, Harold Matzner has made his home in the desert for more than 30 years. The owner of Palm Spring’s popular Spencer’s Restaurant and CEO of a NY/NJ based branding, advertising and marketing company, Harold is credited with revitalizing the Palm Springs International Film Festival and founding the successful business concept of targeted “shared mail”. He also rescued and revived the world famous Palm Springs Tennis Club, turning its lunchroom into Spencer’s, one of the City’s hottest restaurants. Spencer’s is named after his beloved 110-pound Siberian husky. Harold is in his 8th year as the Chairman of the Board of the McCallum Theatre, his 11th year as Chairman of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and is the Executive Vice Chairman of the Palm Springs Art Museum. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Eisenhower Medical Center and Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center. Harold has been honored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the “Philanthropist of the Year”, by Gilda’s Club as the “Man of the Year”, by the McCallum Muses as “Man of the Year”, by Angel View Children’s Foundation as “Angel of the Year”, by the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce as “Businessperson of the Year”, by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians with the “Richard M. Milanovich Humanitarian Award”, by Desert Samaritan’s as “Samaritan of the Year”, and has received the Virginia Waring “Lifetime Achievement Award”. Among the many local charities benefiting from his philanthropic efforts are the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, AIDS Assistance Program, Desert Symphony, American Cancer Society, Cabot’s Pueblo Museum, Coachella Valley Symphony, ACT for MS, College of the Desert, Eisenhower Medical Center, Desert AIDS Project, Desert Cancer Foundation, Palm Springs Animal Shelter, Jewish Family Service of the Desert, Neuro Vitality Center, Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre, Temple Isaiah, Bighorn's Behind a Miracle, Tools for Tomorrow, Palm Springs Air Museum, Mizell Senior Center, Well in the Desert, FIND Food Bank, and Pegasus Riding Academy.

BARBARA FROMM

Barbara Fromm has been the Event Co-Chair of Michael Childers’ production of One Night Only since 2008. Barbara and her husband of 59 years, Bernie, split their time between the communities of Palm Desert and New York City. Among the many things they share are a commitment and passion for philanthropy. Here in the desert, Barbara’s many charitable endeavors include serving on the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Service of the Desert, where she assumed the position of President in April 2016. She also serves on the Executive Committee, and previously served as Vice President, as well as the co-chair of the annual Patron Party for a number of years. She is actively involved with numerous fundraising activities with the Palm Springs Art Museum, including serving on the Boards of the Museum Associates Council and the Annenberg Theater Council. She is also on the Board of the Israel Cancer Research Fund. Barbara feels privileged to have worked with the brilliant and talented Michael Childers for the past eight years. She is also grateful for the opportunity to work closely with her friends and honorary co-chairs Annette Bloch, Helene Galen, Barbara Keller, and Harold Matzner, as well as her event co-chair Terri Ketover, in support of the critical work of Jewish Family Service of the Desert. Barbara and Bernie have instilled their charitable ethics to their three children and six grandchildren, who continue the family tradition of giving back to the communities in which they live. Barbara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education from Albright College.

TERRI KETOVER

With a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Miami, Terri Ketover’s varied professional career has included a research appointment with the University of Miami’s Mailman Center for Child Development, a nine-year term as the Executive Director of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, and a long association with the City of Miami as a Special Consultant to the Chief of Police and City Manager. She has been recognized by the Florida House of Representatives and the White House for founding the “Do the Right Thing” Program, a nonprofit organization which recognizes and rewards youth for exemplary behavior and accomplishments with chapters in 53 cities throughout the United States, as well as Germany and England. Terri moved to Rancho Mirage in 1998 with her husband, ophthalmologist Bart Ketover, and began serving on the Jewish Family Service of the Desert Board of Directors and the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission. She is currently active in the Palm Springs Art Museum and is Vice-Chair of the Museum’s Annenberg Theater Council. She is also on the Board of the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Desert AIDS Project, serving as Co-Chair of the agency’s “100 Women” program. She was honored as the desert’s “Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer” at the 2013 National Philanthropy Day, received the “100 Women Award” at the 2014 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards gala, and was the recipient of the 2014 “Athena Leadership Award” from the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Lucie Arnaz directed the Broadway bound New York workshop of Hazel: A Musical Maid in America and the Emmy winning Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie, which she also produced. She was the executive producer for the Emmy nominated I Love Lucy 50th Anniversary Special. In over forty-five years in show business, she has starred on Broadway in They’re Playing Our Song (Theatre World, LA Drama Critic’s and Outer Critic’s Circle Awards), Lost In Yonkers, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Pippin. Off Broadway, she has appeared in Grace And Glorie; and in London, The Witches Of Eastwick. Lucie has performed in the First National Tours of Seesaw, Whose Life Is It Anyway? Social Security, My One And Only and Pippin. Her regional work includes Wonderful Town, Master Class, Cabaret, The Guardsman, Annie Get Your Gun, I Do! I Do!, Educating Rita, Vanities, and Mack And Mable. On TV, Lucie starred in The Lucie Arnaz Show, Sons And Daughters, The Black Dahlia, The Mating Season, Who Gets The Friends?, Washington Mistress and Here’s Lucy (co-starring with her mother, Lucille Ball for six seasons). She has traveled around the world in her musical concerts. She has two recordings, Just In Time and Latin Roots. John McDaniel is a Grammy and two-time Emmy Award winning Composer, Music Director, Arranger, Orchestrator, Theatrical and Record Producer and is the Artistic Director of the Tony Award winning O’Neill Theater Center’s Cabaret and Performance conference. Broadway credits include Bonnie and Clyde (Drama Desk Nomination, Best Orchestrations), Catch Me If You Can, Brooklyn (Producer and Orchestrator), Annie Get Your Gun (Grammy Award, cast album Producer), Taboo, Chicago, Grease, Patti LuPone on Broadway and Company – the Original Cast in Concert at Lincoln Center. John won his Emmy Awards for The Rosie O’Donnell Show and was nominated for 5 consecutive years for Best Music Direction. Recent credits include Maltby & Shire’s Waterfall both in Los Angeles and Seattle and The Daughter of the Regiment at Opera Theatre of St. Louis. John has enjoyed collaborations with Cab Calloway, Shirley MacLaine, George Burns, Al Jarreau, Tyne Daly, Joel Grey, Carol Burnett, Frederica von Stade, Betty Buckley and most recently, Bette Midler. He has been guest conductor at many Symphony Orchestras including San Francisco, Indianapolis, Utah, Buffalo, Colorado, Baltimore, Phoenix and his hometown, the St. Louis Symphony. He holds a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon.

Mark Esposito has choreographed for theater, television, commercials, and videos. His work has been seen at Two River Theater (New Jersey) and Pasadena Playhouse (Camelot, Casa Valentina), the Hollywood Bowl (South Pacific with Reba McEntire), CV Rep Theater (A Class Act), the Reprise Series in Los Angeles (Applause), La Mirada Theater, Musical Theater West, Sacramento Music Circus, Universal Studios, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Playhouse, North Shore Music Theater (Massachusetts), Bass Hall and Casa Mañana (Texas), Ogunquit Playhouse (Maine), Globus Theater Company in Russia and the York Theater Company and Signature Theater in New York. Mark has served as associate director and choreographer for The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show and as choreographer for Yuletide Celebration starring Sandi Patti with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Mark has performed in over 16 Broadway and National Tours including The Music Man; West Side Story; Brigadoon; Pippin; A Chorus Line; Jerome Robbins’ Broadway; Cats; Guys and Dolls; Damn Yankees; and The American Dance Machine, among others. Mark has been on faculty at University of Michigan and has guest taught or choreographed at New York University, UCLA, University of Arizona, Point Park College (Pennsylvania) and at AMDA in Los Angeles. Ronn Goswick is thrilled to be back in Palm Springs for his eighth One Night Only as Production Stage Manager. He recently returned to Los Angeles to work on the new world premiere musical –- Recorded in Hollywood at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. His most recent work includes concerts in Los Angeles with Jason Robert Brown, Shoshana Bean, Arianna Grande, Belinda Carlisle, David Hernandez and others. Prior to that he spent his third summer in Jennerstown, PA at the Mountain Playhouse working the summer/fall season and is ready to head back there again this year. Other work includes the world premiere in LA of Recorded in Hollywood and in San Antonio where he completed work on Dido and Aeneas for Opera Piccola. Tony nominee and Emmy Award winner Liz Callaway is happy to be singing two songs tonight from her newest album The Essential Liz Callaway. Liz made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years, won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. She starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers, and The Look of Love. Her extensive concert and symphony career has included appearances in London, Paris, Barcelona, China, South Korea and Australia and most major U.S. cities. PATRICK CASSIDY

In addition to being a Broadway, television and film actor for over 35 years, Patrick Cassidy is currently the resident director at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, where he oversees Steve Wynn’s Showstoppers. He has also worked as acting consultant for the show Le Re’ve at the Wynn Hotel. Patrick is on the board at Point Park University in Pittsburgh where he has directed Oklahoma and taught various master classes in acting. He starred with his mother Shirley Jones in the 2014 midwest tour of The Music Man, for which he also produced and wrote all the additional material. He has directed Michael Monge in his cabaret act at the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas and The Sound of Music at the High-Street Theatre in Moorpark. Patrick has an Acting Company in Agoura California where lives and works with his wife and choreographer Melissa Hurley Cassidy. Most recently, Patrick has conceived a new autobiographical musical on the life of his mother Shirley Jones, entitled Have You Met Miss Jones that will premier in Kansas the fall of 2016.

Hunter Ryan Herdlicka is best known from his almost two years starring on Broadway as Henrik in the Tony Award winning revival of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, playing opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury. Whether headlining New York’s elegant Café Carlyle, Las Vegas’ greatest showrooms or appearing with some of America’s most prestigious orchestras, Clint redefines the standard for vocalists as he performs selections from the Great American Songbook, Sinatra’s legendary repertoire, contemporary classics or original music. Clint’s career soared after the release of his hit song “Playground in My Mind” in 1973, reaching #2 on the Billboard chart. A two-time Tony nominee, Millicent Martin recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating her 64th year in show business in both the United Kingdom & the U.S. She is probably best known for Frasier as Gertrude Moon, Daphne’s dreadful mother. Other television appearances include guest starring on Modern Family, Bones, Castle, Hot in Cleveland, Jonas, Chuck, Will & Grace, Days Of Our Lives as Lili Faversham, That Was The Week That Was, From A Bird’s Eye View, L.A. She’s played in Follies, Gypsy, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and A Little Night Music. She stood by for Carol Burnett in the Mark Taper Forum production of Putting It Together and introduced a new Sondheim review, Moving On, at the Laguna Playhouse where she returned to do Steel Magnolis. She directed productions of Sideby-Side, Into the Woods, Forum, and Follies. Recent New York productions include Good Ole Girls, Hats: The Musical, Marcy in the Galaxy, and Bajour. She is on 6 original cast albums and her solo CD is I Gotta Get Back to New York. Lee Roy Reams has been hailed by the New York Times as “Broadway’s song & dance man nonpareil” for his leading Broadway roles in The Producers (Carbonell, Helen Hayes & Las Vegas Life Awards), 42nd Street (Tony & Drama Desk Nominations), Beauty & the Beast, La Cage Aux Folles, Hello, Dolly!, An Evening with Jerry Herman, Applause, Lorelei, Oklahoma!, and Sweet Charity. He directed on Broadway the last revival of Hello, Dolly! and An Evening with Jerry Herman. His TV, concert & cabaret appearances have taken him around the world and to the White House to perform before four U.S. Presidents. JAMES SNYDER

James Snyder was most recently seen in the West Coast premiere of Casa Valentina. He also toured as Josh in If/Then opposite Idina Menzel after originating the role on Broadway. James made his Broadway debut as the title character in the musical Cry-Baby. If you are between the ages of 12 and 26, you may recognize him from the movie She’s The Man. Some of his other stage roles include Prince Henry in Ever After (Papermill Playhouse), Billie Bigelow in Carousel (Goodspeed), Fanny (Encores), Johnny Baseball (Williamstown Theater Festival), Dangerous Beauty (Pasadena Playhouse), and Drew in Rock of Ages. Theresa Jewett has a varied career in musical and classical theatre, and opera. Her regional credits include: The Comeback; Esperanza: The Musical of Hope; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee; Laundry and Bourbon; Bingo! The Winning Musical; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change; Little Women: The Musical; La Boheme; Cavalleria Rusticana; The Grand Duke; and the Downtowner Concert Series in Miami. Theresa attended the University of South Carolina’s School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music’s Summer Voice Festival singing Polly Peachum in The Threepenny Opera. The Desert Theatre League nominated Theresa for three Desert Star Awards.

PAUL MACKEY Palm Springs resident Paul MacKey has had a career that includes theatre, music, film, television, recording, nightclubs and dance. Memorable performances include Charlie in Brigadoon, Adolfo Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Dr. Coppelius in Coppelia, the Observer in Putting It Together, and Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm in A Little Night Music, for which he won a Desert Theatre League Best Actor Award. He is grateful for the opportunity to participate in this evening’s production of One Night Only, and delighted that his performance tonight will help the future good works of Jewish Family Service of the Desert.


JULIE ROSSER Julie Rosser graduated cum laude from Pomona College with a Theatre degree. After four years of working on and off Broadway, Julie attended law school at UCLA and currently is an attorney at Rover Armstrong. Her select regional credits include Palm Canyon Theatre: Cats (Grizabella), Hot Mikado (Katisha), The Who’s Tommy (Mrs. Walker), 9 to 5: the Musical (Judy), Legally Blonde (Paulette), Spamalot (Lady of the Lake), Miss Saigon (Ellen), Kiss Me, Kate! (Kate/Lilli), Into the Woods (Baker’s Wife), Jekyll & Hyde (Emma), College of the Desert’s Anything Goes! (Reno Sweeney). Julie was the Grand Prize winner at Open Call in 2010.

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGERS

ALAN SCOTT Alan Scott, a Mobile, Alabama native, sang his first solo at the tender age of 8. Since then, he has made appearances across the United States and Canada, and managed to collect Bachelors degrees in Church Music and Vocal Performance and a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting. Alan has performed music theater, opera and (believe it or not) ballet roles too cumbersome to bother with here. He has also directed choirs and choruses of various qualities and sizes across the United States. Alan shares his life with his husband Joel, their two boys, Esteban and Enrique, and three loveable mutts.

CANDICE M. CLASBY

Candice M. Clasby has an M.F.A. in Television, Film, and Theatre in production (CSULA) where her focus was in directing and producing. She also holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from CSU, Fullerton. Most recently she was Assistant Producer for the 2015 Ovation Awards at The Ahmanson in Los Angeles. She is currently stage managing Death Play (Circle X Theatre Co.) Credits include: Assistant Stage Manager: LAYN Gala (Greek Theatre), Erich Bergen in Concert (Catalina Jazz Club); Directing: Bus Stop, Water Under the Bridge, and The Good (CSULA), Almost, Maine (Hunger Artists Theatre Co.) She is excited to be a part of this year’s One Night Only team!

Zachary James Schell is a fourth year undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego. He will be graduating this year with a B. A. in Theatre Arts focusing in Stage Management. Recent credits include; The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Stage Management Intern, La Jolla Playhouse, American Premiere), Carmen (Production Assistant, Music Academy of the West), What a Pair!
