Gosford Regional Gallery and Edogawa Commemorative Garden (The Centre) is proudly owned and operated by Central Coast Council. It is located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia, a popular holiday destination just one hour’s drive north of Sydney. The one hectare facility first opened in August 1994 with further major extensions completed in 2000. It is located within 26 hectares of a picturesque public reserve on the shores of Caroline Bay. The Centre is open seven days a week and admission is free.

The Centre is acknowledged as one of the most popular regional galleries in NSW, attracting high visitation of over 150,000 visits per year and enjoying a strong reputation for developing community based programs and workshops. A key feature of The Centre is the Edogawa Commemorative Garden, established and provided as a gift from Edogawa, Japan under Gosford’s Sister City relationship. Gosford Regional Gallery and Edogawa Commemorative Garden consists of three main gallery spaces, cafe, shop, gardens and two studios, making it a busy hub for residents and visitors to the region. The Centre is opened and staffed seven days a week for 49 hours a week from 9.30am until 4.30pm.


Gosford Regional Gallery boasts three modern exhibition galleries featuring modular wall systems, LED track lighting and gallery hanging system. The total exhibition space is 500m2. Touring Exhibitions The Gallery annually hosts four to six major national or international touring exhibitions, showcasing a diverse range of content, style and forms, aiming to bring the best in contemporary visual arts to the Central Coast. Internally Curated Exhibitions The Gallery internally curates the majority of its exhibitions, including its popular annual competition The Gosford Art Prize. The Emerging Art Prize, aimed at young emerging artists aged between 18 and 30, is also run biennially. Foyer Gallery Program The Foyer Gallery displays work by a range of emerging and established artists, with a focus on representing artists from the region.

PAST EXHIBITION HIGHIGHTS The Archibald Prize (22 November 2014 – 4 January 2015) Since its inception in 1921, the Archibald Prize has continued to be one of Australia’s most prestigious and popular art awards. After its initial showing at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the exhibition is toured to selected venues around Australia by Museums & Galleries NSW. It is one of Gosford Regional Gallery’s most highly visited exhibitions.

Dawn Light (17 September - 23 October 2005) An international contemporary art symposium including artists from New Zealand, Korea, Japan and Australia who geographically experienced the dawning of each day simultaneously. The artists created site-specific installations and performance pieces within Gosford Regional Gallery and its surrounding foreshore.

Dadang Christanto: Survivor ( 1 April to 20 May 2012) A seminal performance and exhibition by contemporary IndonesianAustralian artist Dadang Christanto. Survivor included a three hour performance with regional volunteers silently occupying the Gallery, memorialising an environmental catastrophe in the Artist’s home of East Java.

Survivor was an international touring exhibition developed by the 4A – Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and Museums & Galleries NSW.

UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS Gosford Regional Gallery is commited to bringing large-scale touring and international exhibitions to the Central Coast. In 2016/7 Gosford Regional Gallery will be presenting the following Major Summer Exhibitions.

In February 2016, a collection of artworks valued at over $500,000 was donated to Gosford Regional Gallery by Hornsby Arts Council. The Hornsby Bestowed Collection features work by major Australian artists including John Coburn, Elizabeth Cummings, Shay Docking, Elwyn Lynn, Tony Tuckson and Margaret Woodward. All works now remain permanently in the Central Coast Council Art Collection which is managed by Gosford Regional Gallery.

Gosford Regional Gallery is currently partnering with Gosford Hospital as part of the state’s first NSW Health and The Arts Framework, which acknowledges the positive impact that art can have on a patient’s recovery in hospital. The Gallery is a key stakeholder on the region’s a Redevelopment Arts Strategy Working Group which is working to bring the New South Wales framework to life. The group is developing an Arts and Culture Strategy which will outline how arts, culture and heritage elements can be integrated in the current redevelopment of Gosford Hospital, a significant economic and redevelopment project designed to meet the growing needs of the Central Coast community.


Gosford Regional Gallery’s exhibitions are supported by a strong education and learning program which includes tours, practical workshops, demonstrations and term time art classes for both children and adults. An exciting series of family activities are also available during school holiday periods. Over the years, the Gallery has become an important cultural and educational resource for the Central Coast community presenting a unique balance of art, gardens, events and community participation. Gosford Regional Gallery aims to offer residents and visitors an engaging and accessible space in which to celebrate arts and culture.
