Melbourne City Ballet presents

Bell Shakespeare presents

Join Melbourne City Ballet as they bring the classical ballet version of William Shakespeare’s, arguably most popular work, Romeo and Juliet to life. Choreographed by Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo, William Shakespeare’s classic story explores the chance meeting of two young lovers, the son and daughter of two rival families, who quickly develop a forbidden love that could cost them their lives. Known for their unique choreography and high quality artists, Melbourne City Ballet has quickly grown on the Australian arts scene under the direction of Michael Pappalardo who founded the company in 2013. With a cast of 14 artists, Melbourne City Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet will feature Principal Artists, Yuiko Masakawa and Brendan Bradshaw, in the titled roles. This is Melbourne City Ballet’s most raw production within their repertoire, taking the audience on a journey to the city of Verona and into the lives of the two starcrossed lovers. Expect beautiful costumes, cleverly designed sets and an unmistakably evocative score in this timeless production. Thursday 1 September, 7.30pm Members $35, Adults $40, Concessions/Groups 6+ $38, Under 18 $18

Othello, directed by Bell Shakespeare’s Artistic Director Peter Evans, is one of William Shakespeare’s most famous and passionate tragedies. This gripping production will touch audiences to their core, as envy is a weapon wielded with brazen savagery, and the complex contradictory nature of humanity is tested. A violent exploration of the thin line that separates love and jealousy, Othello is a relentless journey of vicious passion. A warrior on the fields of war, felled by the sharpness of whispered words, Othello is a man swept up in desire, quickly turned to murderous rage when he is betrayed by his military brother-inarms, the cynically destructive Iago. Monday 5 September, 8pm and Tuesday 6 September, 11am and 8pm. Members $35, Adults $40, Concessions/Groups 6+ $38, Under 18 $18

Absurd Person Singular

Wicked

Written by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by Andrew Thomson. Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular is set on three successive Christmas Eves, and by identifying them in the script as “Last Christmas,” “This Christmas,” and “Next Christmas,” the playwright conjures the three spirits that visit Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. What he depicts, however, is not the implausible redemption of a miser but the inexorable rise of a money-grubbing British middle class. 28 October until 13 November Adult $25, Conc. $22, Child $7. This production will be presented at the Peninsula Theatre, McMasters Rd, Woy Woy. Bookings can be made through the Woy Woy Little Theatre website: woywoylt.com.au or by phoning 4344 4737.

Wicked tells the incredible untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz and form an unlikely but profound friendship: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba.
