Flying along with the Blue-Bee Squad

Hello friends! Welcome to flying along with the BLUEBEE squad. The section of the CommuniQuest where you’ll be able to learn everything that we’ve been doing in IVI Corporation.

Let’s start! 2024 has begun, and as we do constantly, we once again reinvented our brand. So instead of being “IVI THE DMC”, one of our most significant updates is that now we are “IVI THE DMC”. We made this change since we don’t want to be known just as another DMC. We want our clients to know that we are THE DMC and their best option to help them with their meetings, incentives + AD-HOC events.

During this month, we had a lot of online meetings; some were internal, and others were with great industry allies.

Initially, we convened with the "Amigos of the Planet" foundation team. It's invaluable to maintain regular meetings, fostering collaboration and enabling us to devise fresh strategies aimed at enhancing our community's well-being across environmental, health, and educational fronts.

Charting new skies with IVI THE DMC

Another online meeting we had was with Martha Varela, who we invited to be part of our ambassador team at dQuest DMO. We hope that we can have a lot of business together and work on new amazing strategies to MAKE OUR CLIENTS LOOK GREAT! Thank you for your time during this meeting, Martha!

And finally, the last online meeting we had this month was with Kate Cardoso. We will work hand in hand to make it easy for clients to include impactful CSR projects.

And that was it for this edition of the CommuniQuest. Tune in next month to keep flying along with the BLUE-BEE squad!

Making you LOOK GREAT every step of the way

Business and convention tourism, also known as MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions), is expected to reach its pre-pandemic levels in Mexico between the second and third quarters of 2023, initiating a new cycle of growth.

The Mexican Council of the Meeting Industry (Comir) predicts that in 2023, MICE tourism will generate an economic impact of 25 billion dollars through the hosting of congresses, conventions, and events in destinations such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Leon, Acapulco, Cancun, the Riviera Maya, among others.

Mexico is highly competitive on a global scale in the Meetings Industry due to its extensive infrastructure, excellent quality and bespoke services.

Where Culture and Beauty Unite in Harmony

With its gorgeous turquoise seas, powdery white-sand beaches, and vibrant coral reefs, it’s no surprise that Cancun is one of Mexico’s most popular resort areas.

Hotels, restaurants, malls, and nightclubs line either side of Boulevard Kukulkan, known as the Hotel Zone, which runs down the middle of the 15-mile-long sandbar. This is where you’ll find many of the city's all-inclusive hotels catering to families on vacation, couples on their honeymoon, and everything in between.

As you venture closer to the city’s downtown, “El Centro”, you’ll see a more local side of life, peppered with markets and traditional restaurants, as well as quality business-class hotels and hostels.

A Deserted Island

Five decades ago, Cancun was a deserted island, and only a few knew of its existence. Located in a nearly forgotten region of the Caribbean, it consisted of a series of sand dunes in the shape of a number 7 -some parts of which were only 20 meters (66 ft) wide- separated from the mainland by two narrow canals that opened out on to a huge lagoon system.

The coast was comprised of marshes, mangroves, virgin jungle and unexplored beaches. Even its name was not clear: some maps called it “Kankun” (a single word written with the two “k’s”), which means “pot of snakes” or “nest of snakes” in Maya.

However, the first Infratur document (a government agency existing prior to the creation of Fonatur) is written as two words, “Kan Kun” and occasionally, “Can Cun” (in its Spanish form). The current name of “Cancun” is a natural phonetic development that facilitates pronunciation… or maybe it developed by mere chance.

M&I + Ad-Hoc Events Guru’s Digest by IVI Corporation | Page 7

The Cancun Project was officially approved in 1969 but didn’t begin until January 1970, when the first Infratur technicians arrived. The initial objectives of the project were to open up a road from Puerto Juarez to the island, design a Master Development Plan, and build a provisional airstrip (located in the area designated for city development at the site of present-day Kabah Avenue). The primary Master Plan called for three items.

The Master Plan

1) Build a tourism zone without permanent residential areas, like a tourism corridor (given the characteristics of the land itself), with hotel installations, shopping centers, golf courses, and marinas.

2) Build a residential zone for permanent residents. In other words, an a city, in the northern part of the territorial reserve, with residential and commercial areas, roads, public buildings, schools, hospitals and markets.

3) Build an international airport on one side of the Cancun-Tulum highway (under construction at the time) on the mainland south of the island.

Everything went so smoothly! Wonderful staff. Abso “

The Genesis of a Tropical Paradise

Hotel Zone development was, in turn, divided into three phases. The first comprised the area from BahÌa de Mujeres to Punta Cancun and the coast up to the inner limit of Bojorquez Lagoon; the second phase ran from Bojorquez Lagoon to Punta Nizuc, and the third from Punta Nizuc south, to the limits of the territorial reserve.

The first hotels opened in 1974 (Playa Blanca, Bojorquez and Cancun Caribe); the international airport was inaugurated with 2,600 meters of runway and operating capacity for wide-cabin airplanes.

Infratur and Foqatur government agencies were merged to form the National Foundation for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur).

The same year, Quintana Roo was granted statehood, and the Cancun project (under the Isla Mujeres district government) became part of the Benito Juarez district.

Cancun International Airport

The Cancun International Airport (IATA Code: CUNICAO Code: MMUN - DGAC Code: CUN) is situated 16 kilometers from the city of Cancun, on the Caribbean coast of the state of Quintana Roo.

It ranks as Mexico's second busiest airport, trailing only the Mexico City International Airport in terms of overall passenger traffic. However, it holds the distinction of being the most significant airport in Mexico and Latin America for international passengers. Notably, it boasts one of the most extensive route networks and airline operations in all of Latin America.

The airport underwent a comprehensive renovation and expansion to become the country's second-busiest airport and the primary gateway for international travelers. It features two operational runways strategically spaced over 1,500 meters apart, allowing for simultaneous use. Additionally, it houses three commercial terminals. Terminal 1 ceased operations in March 2018 and is exclusively utilized for select charter flights.

Terminal 2 serves a mix of international and domestic carriers, while Terminal 3 handles the majority of international flights to and from North America and Europe. Recently, Terminal 4 was inaugurated, serving as the arrival and departure point for two domestic and eleven international airlines.

1. Crystal Clear Water

The crystal clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea with its spectacular white sand beaches of coral origin. The Mexican Caribbean has a vast expanse of impressive beaches that have a unique charm with the white sand and turquoise blue of the sea. Many of them have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag distinction, which is the recognition that highlights the quality of its waters and tourist services.

2. Colors and the Magic of Mexico

No matter where you stop, you will always see the representation of Magical Mexico with the flavor of its 32 federal states of a republic, always very colorful, all with their distinguishing musical sounds, authentic cuisine, indigenous folklore of all kinds, and also many stores to advance the “must-have” Christmas gifts.

3. Mayan Heritage

Among the many attractions that make the Mexican Caribbean a unique destination are its impressive archaeological sites, which allow us to travel back in time to learn about the history of the ancient Mayan culture. These areas represent an ancient people’s heritage and reminders of that which remains present today. Quintana Roo is home to 19 archaeological sites and Mayan vestiges.

TOP 10 REASONS TO TRAVEL TO THE MEXICAN CARIBBEAN Mexican Caribbean Mexican Caribbean

In Cancun, you'll find 3 archaeological sites, including El Rey and San Miguelito, in the hotel zone. In Costa Mujeres, El Meco is a crucial Mayan site near the sea, linked to Cobá. Riviera Maya boasts Tulum, the most visited with "El Castillo," and Cobá, known for its Nohoch Mul pyramid. Other sites like Calica, Xcaret, Xel-Há, and Xaman-Há are in Playacar. Cozumel's main site is San Gervasio. Maya Ka'an includes Muyil, with its "El Castillo" pyramid. Grand Costa Maya hosts Chacchobén, Kohunlich, Oxtankah, Dzibanché, and Kinichná, with Oxtankah featuring Spanish chapel ruins from 1531.

4. The largest reef area in the Americas

The Mexican Caribbean also boasts part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Stretching nearly 1,000 kilometers along the Caribbean coasts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, it is the most extensive reef system in the Americas, second only to the Great Barrier Reef.

This reef habitat is home to an abundance of marine life. In fact, various protected areas and parks are located within this reef system, including the National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos, the Cozumel National Reef Park, the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, and the Arrecifes de Xcalak National Park. Just off the coast from Cancun, the Riviera Maya, and the Grand Costa Maya, the reef and the surrounding beaches make it perfect for those interested in scuba diving and snorkeling.

Near Playa del Carmen, the Mexican Caribbean’s largest island, Cozumel, is not only a popular port for cruise ships, but it’s also a paradise for divers. Reef walls plunge to impressive depths ranging from 30 meters to 100 feet, with limestone tunnels and caves whose inhabitants include turtles, sharks, and parrot fish.

Nature and adventure lovers can dive into the depths of the sea in the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA), which has four different galleries housing incredible life-size statues that bring coral reefs to life. Or, if you prefer adrenaline, drive your speedboat through the channels surrounded by the majestic mangroves of the Nichupté Lagoon. The tour ends at the sea, where you can observe the colorful coral reefs.

5. Eco-interactive water parks

Xel-Ha is one of the world's largest natural amusement parks, known for its natural beauty. Its name comes from Mayan and means 'The place where the water is born.' The park covers 86 hectares and is built around a natural inlet with cenotes, caves, jungle, mangrove areas, and lagoons. Visitors can enjoy activities like snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, exploring cenotes and caves, and observing wildlife.

Xcaret, also known as the 'Xcaret ecoarchaeological park,' is a Riviera Maya theme park that combines Mexican history, traditions, Mayan culture, and nature. It has over 50 attractions and is located by the Caribbean Sea. Activities include swimming, diving, beach relaxation, and shows dedicated to Mexican and Mayan culture.

Maroma Beach is a beach destination with a wide range of outdoor activities like speedboats, sport fishing, jet skis, catamaran cruises, scuba diving, camel rides, and ATVs. It also has a beach club with loungers and restaurant service.

Chankanaab Park in Cozumel is a park connected to the sea through underwater caverns. Activities include swimming with dolphins, zip-lining, sea lion shows, Sea Trek, scuba diving, and snorkeling. There are also submerged statues in the sea and hammocks for relaxation.

6. Astonishing Underground Adventure

One of the most fantastic attractions of the Mexican Caribbean is, without a doubt, the cenotes. These fascinating natural pools of intense cobalt blue, turquoise blue, or emerald green color leave anyone who dares to explore them breathlessly.

The cenotes are exclusively found in the Yucatan Peninsula (in Mexico), Belize, and Guatemala, where the soil is porous and soft limestone, which allows rainwater to seep in and create an underground system of rivers called the Sac Actun System. The largest underground river system in the world, located along the Mexican Caribbean, connects all the cenotes.

The Dz'onot, the name by which the Mayans knew them, were sacred places because they believed they were the gateway to the underworld (Xibalbá), where their gods and the dead resided, in addition to being sites where various ceremonies and rituals were carried out.

There are four types of cenotes: open, semi-open, cave, and ancient. In Quintana Roo, most of these enigmatic bodies of water are found along the Riviera Maya—a region made up of Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. However, you can also find some to the south, in Bacalar and around Chetumal.

Located in Puerto Morelos, the Ruta de los Cenotes is a site of unparalleled beauty that extends over 20 miles, housing more than 60 of these natural wells. In addition to the cenotes, the region offers incredible nature and adventure parks.

Tren Maya

The Mexican Caribbean stands with the most important project: the Mayan Train that will detonate the southeast of the country. The Mayan Train is a project that will strengthen the territorial planning of the region and enhance its tourism industry. It will generate economic benefits and increase connectivity in the Yucatan Peninsula, allowing cargo and passengers to be moved efficiently. It will reduce the times and costs of transporting goods, passengers and tourists within the peninsula. Approximately 1,525 km of railways will be built that will cross the states of Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, benefiting development in the region and the quality of life of the inhabitants. 16 Stations will connect communities to create development poles, which will generate trade, sustainable tourism and wellbeing

Tulum Airport

The Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport is a future Mexican airport located about 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) southwest of Tulum, Mexico. Construction began in 2022 and is scheduled to begin operation by December 2023. It is contemplated that once completed, it will have 13 positions to park aircraft that allow sufficient operations so that it can receive 4 million passengers per year, just under a sixth of the more than 25 million that the Cancún airport received in 2019 before the pandemic.

The development of this new air terminal in Quintana Roo will trigger the construction of a commercial and services corridor along 10.5 kilometers of Federal Highway 307 and will promote the construction of an airport city with urban reorganization.

It will help workers to get to and from their jobs and homes faster. It will improve roads, and it will be a family recreation route and a tourist reference due to its spectacular views. Its opening is scheduled for March 2024

Quintana Roo is predominantly composed of lush jungle, encompassing approximately 90% of its territory. Additionally, you can find various aquatic vegetation, mangroves, marshes, and palm groves within the state. Agriculture is also a part of the local flora, although it fortunately occupies only 5% of the region. Here are some of the notable plant species from Quintana Roo: Chit Palm (Thrinax radiata):

This palm tree is symbolic of the Yucatán Peninsula and thrives in coastal dunes and mid-level jungles. Its fan-shaped leaves have been traditionally used for crafting brooms, palapa roofs, and even lobster traps. Today, its usage is carefully regulated.

Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle): Mangroves are critically important ecosystems adapted to the brackish conditions between rivers and the sea. They serve as habitats for numerous species and act as natural barriers, mitigating tides, erosion, and even tempering the impact of hurricanes. Among all mangrove species, the red mangrove is the most salt-tolerant.

Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King): This tropical tree yields exceptional wood with a rich reddish hue, known for its smooth texture and ease of working. Quintana Roo stands as the leading Mexican state in mahogany exports, emphasizing sustainable extraction practices to preserve the well-being of the tropical jungle.
