Service Learning You can participate in a service learning placement with an accompanying academic seminar. Through service learning, you will gain insight into Ecuadorian culture while directly helping the community as a volunteer at a local organization. The IES Abroad Quito staff has relationships with a number of community-based organizations. The instructor will work with a select group of organizations to develop interesting projects for teams of students. You can apply to be a member of the project team. The instructor will assemble a team with the skills, experience and interests that can best meet the project objectives. Service learning opportunities vary by semester and may be quite competitive, so it is important that you keep an open mind about your placement. Applying for Service Learning The Service Learning application consists of several pieces. Review the online Service Learning Form for more information. If you apply for a service learning placement, it is your responsibility to complete all pieces of the service learning application before the deadline. Remember to check with your home school advisor regarding your university’s policy on service learning credit and to return the signed Service Learning Approval Form to the IES Abroad Chicago office by the deadline noted on the form.
