She says the following, My dearest ITK readers and followers. Today I decided to use the ‘Constantia’ word font. Very funny I have to say. Was rather surprised when I came across it. So now they need to hurry along and provide us with Camps Bay and Bishopscourt I say. I’m in a very humorous mood today. Every utter of word and sentence are extremely funny and much to the wit bound. It doesn’t happen everyday so will make the most of it.

JANIE BAY is a South African rock artist and songwriter from Cape Town, whose music has an acoustic rock base and electro layers. Her influences include 60’s rock, 80’s electro and all round 90’s music. The debut album “I Remember” , is a collection of memories from Janie’s childhood all the way up to her adult life. She writes about experiences in her own life and those around her, relationships, the death of her father, love and God. The album is written in memory of her belated father, and will take you on a journey through her life. Her first single “Feels Like” play-listed on various radio stations around the country and reached No.1 on PUKfm’s Top 30 Chart in March, 2010 and also went to NO.1 on the Top 10 University Chart on Studio 1 on MK in the same week. Her second single “The Meaning” made it to No.1 on the Homebrew Top 10 on KFM 94.5 / Highveld 94.7 in May, 2010. It was also play- listed on a couple of Ryan Seacrest’s Shows for KFM and Highveld. The debut album, “I Remember” , will be in stores and online in March 2011.

[07:32:09 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Hi Janie, thanks for taking time to talk to us at ITK MAGAZINE, can you tell us a little about how you first got into the music, and who were some of your early influences? [07:34:53 PM] Janie Bay: Thanks for the chat! Music has always been in my family. My mom and dad were in a band together in High School and often played at school events. My mom sang and my dad played trumpet and sang too, so it was only natural for me to follow in their footsteps. I started singing at age 3 (seriously) and professionally at age 13. My earliest influences was 60's rock, because that is what my parents were listening to most of the time. [07:36:51 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: from that early age was music always a career path you wanted to follow? [07:38:55 PM] Janie Bay: It was always my dream to be involved in music, but the opportunities were scarce, even though everyone always said I must use my talent. It is true when people say "Just do it, because no one is going to do it for you." Well, in my experience. So yes, I knew I wanted to sing and write as a career, I just needed to make it happen. [07:41:45 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: well congratulations! You certainly made it happen with 2 singles reaching the top of the charts and your debut album has just been released - sure way to make your parents feel proud. [07:42:26 PM] Janie Bay: Thank you! Yes, we are very excited to share the album with everyone which we have been working on for the past year and half.

[07:44:33 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: has your musical taste changed over the year and a half? What has been the inspiration behind the album? [07:49:10 PM] Janie Bay: I think my taste in music has been very consistent, but with the new sounds and styles we hear every year, it is bound to change to some extent, because music is ever evolving, but generally, I prefer rock oriented music. I also just feel if a song is good, it's good, no matter the genre. My inspiration for the songs on my album is mostly from people close to me, especially my father who passed away in November 2008. The album was written in memory of him and a couple of songs on the album are about him, the main one being 'Legacy'. The album is called 'I Remember', because it was written from life experiences with family and friends from childhood all the way up to my adult life. [07:53:20 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: You have worked with producer Kevin Leicher previously, was he involved in the rest of the album? [07:54:44 PM] Janie Bay: Yes, Kevin Leicher produced 7 of the 9 tracks with me and my brother (co-producer) Theunis Cilliers. We enjoyed working together on the first 2 singles and we decided to complete the album together. [07:59:35 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: When listening to the tracks one does get the feeling, like you are taking us on a journey through your life. Do you feel like a chapter is now complete and what is the next step forward for Janie Bay?

[08:04:05 PM] Janie Bay: I felt that I had things to deal with in life and my lyrics are a true reflection of what I was going through at the time. The next step would be to share the album with as many people across the globe as we can, to perform the songs from the items to a live audience to portray and express the emotions behind the songs. We have already started playing with new ideas for another album, so "watch this space" :). [08:06:15 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: sounds like its going to be a busy year ahead! How do you find a balance between work and relaxation?

[08:09:33 PM] Janie Bay: I must say, it is very hard. I am kind of an over achiever and so is my brother. He is my manager and creative producer and we are both perfectionists, so we tend to push ourselves really hard, but you need to take time out to relax as much as you possibly can or your work won't be of quality. So, a good night's sleep is very important for physical and mental wellbeing, but also for the vocal chords. [08:13:12 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: makes perfect sense, but would you rather want an audience ogling your body or listening to your songs? [08:14:36 PM] Janie Bay: I don't think my body is much to look at, so definitely listen to my songs :) [08:21:09 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: sure there is someone special in your life... in a normal day what 3 items do you never leave home without? [08:22:34 PM] Janie Bay: My iPhone, handbag (with wallet & ID) and positivity.

[08:23:23 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: and would you say you are a water baby or land lover? [08:24:56 PM] Janie Bay: Both. [08:30:00 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: do you have final words for your fans, friends and followers? [08:32:13 PM] Janie Bay: Thank you so much for all your support, messages, emails, love and encouragement during the years and for supporting my music. You have helped me to keep motivated in such a difficult industry and I am so excited to share my life and experiences within my music with you. Peace... Love... Music xxx. [08:34:31 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Well in a competitive industry, you certainly have what it takes to get noticed so here's to your continued success & keep on making it happen. [08:35:15 PM] Janie Bay: Thanks so much! [08:35:18 PM] Janie Bay: :) [08:37:20 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: It has been a pleasure spending time with you, much love from all at ITK MAGAZINE [08:42:58 PM] Janie Bay: Much love! :)

It was published posthumously in Swedish in 2006 and in English in January 2009. The book features many of the characters that appeared in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, among them the title character, Lisbet Salander, a social misfit, and Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist and publisher of Millennium magazine. Mikael Blomkvist, publisher of Millennium magazine, has made his living exposing the crooked and corrupt practices of establishment Swedish figures. READ MORE

"This book is about luck perceived and disguised as nonluck (that is, skills), and randomness perceived and disguised as nonrandomness (that is, determinism). It manifests itself in the shape of the lucky fool, defined as a person who benefited from a disproportionate share of luck but attributes his success to some other. An irreverent introspective rumination on the deformations caused by randomness through literature, markets, philosophy, science, and mathematics, and a presentation of applied stoicism. It made many readers feel better about their comparative fate. READ MORE

War. Fast Food. Pornography. Pervasive in our culture, these three obsessions may seem to represent the worst qualities of humankind. But what have our lust, greed and rage driven us to achieve? In this surprising and original book, Peter Nowak argues that most of the major technological advances of the last sixty years have stemmed from the trio of billion-dollar industries that cater to our basest impulses. From Saran Wrap to aerosols, digital cameras to cold medicine and GM foods to Google, many of the gadgets and conveniences we enjoy today can be traced back to either the porn, military or fast food industry. Brainy Bombshells: Parisha Chetty &

Maxine Benatar

Zoe Coetzee caught up with Local fashion designers and this is what the ladies had to say...

2:37:16 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Hi Parisha and Maxine, thanks so much for joining ITK today for a chat! It is great to have you with us! [2:42:40 PM] maxinebenatar: hi [2:43:53 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: So to start off with, tell us how and when did you two come together and start Bombshell Clothing and where has that led to today? [2:50:26 PM] maxinebenatar: We met while we were working as buyers for Truworths. In 1999 we decided to leave and try to start something on our own. We began by supplying the YOUNG DESIGNERS EMPORIUM with our own merchandise .They only had 1 store at the time and we were given 1 rail to fill. Our first range was called Bombshell. Itâ€&#x;s been 12 years since we began and we now have 4 different labels in YDE, and supply 19 stores. [2:53:00 PM] maxinebenatar: When we began we knew very little about manufacturing. We have learnt so much over the years. The fashion industry is tough and you really need to have a passion for what you do in order to survive. We are best friends and having each other really helps. We now have a staff of about 28 and work from a design studio. [2:54:46 PM] Parisha Chetty: All the designing is done by us, we import all our fabrics and manufacture the collections locally.

[2:55:12 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: That is great to know that you are still so hands on! And wow - that is an inspiring success story! Having gone from strength to strength, what would you say is the secret of your success? [2:55:34 PM] Parisha Chetty: Hard work!! [2:56:26 PM] Parisha Chetty: We are really involved on all levels of the business. A "hands on" approach is key to our success. [2:58:14 PM] Parisha Chetty: Also we LOVE fashion and this passion inspires us. Each day brings new challenges and we work well together as a team to create successful collections. [2:59:09 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: So the age old maxims of hard work and passion are all very true! [3:00:29 PM] Parisha Chetty: So true!! We also understand the fashion needs of the South African customer better because of our background as buyers. [3:02:13 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: That too is so important! What do you think sets the South African customer apart from say a European market? What have you found to be important to our fashion needs locally? [3:13:25 PM] Parisha Chetty: I find that although the South African customer is very aware of international fashion trends and enjoys wearing the latest trends , we are not "slaves" to fashion here. Here the girls are far more concerned about how the garment makes them look. Our girls like looking attractive. If there is a fashion trend out there that is not flattering our South African girl does not wear it. She is far more discerning about her choice of fashion and does not feel under pressure to wear the "latest trends" if itâ€&#x;s not going to be flattering for her.

[3:15:21 PM] Parisha Chetty: I find that in Europe many girls wear whatever is in fashion even if it does not "suit" them.... their body shape, height, colouring..... [3:18:04 PM] Parisha Chetty: We travel and almost "pre select" trends. We cover all the fashion looks for the season but we are very selective about the look that we want for the collection.... fashionable with all the key trends. [3:18:44 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: A true brand of individuality! I love that! It is great to know that South Africans are not just sheep and have some discernment in their style choices! [3:19:25 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Travelling as much as you do, do you have a favourite, funny travelling story that you would be willing to share with the ITK readers, that you can look back at and laugh about now? [3:27:53 PM] maxinebenatar: We have many! There is one that comes to mind the minute I think of our travels. It was our first overseas trip together. We went to Hong Kong. I had a business card from my Truworths days with the address of an agent which I thought may be able to help us. We caught 2 trains, and arrived in an industrial area in Shamshipo. We then spent the next 2 hours walking around trying to find this building. We were tired and hungry. Eventually we found the street address and walked into what looked like a building site. Parisha wanted to leave, by now she was ready to kill me ,I insisted we at least go into the lift and try find the office. So we get into this lift full of semi naked chinese workmen, in the middle of nowhere! Did I mention that no-one speaks English! Anyway we press the number of the floor on the card and next thing the lift doors open and there is absolutely nothing in front of us! There is a big gaping hole!!!We got a huge fright and suddenly realised exactly how dangerous our situation actually was. We ran out of there as fast as we could and couldn't get back into town fast enough!!!

[3:28:26 PM] maxinebenatar: We have since learnt to eat breakfast, wear comfortable clothes and not travel to remote places. [3:29:42 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: hahhaaa - that is hysterical, but only from the perspective of hindsight! I guess you learn these valuable lessons as you go along. [3:29:57 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Being on the cutting edge of the upcoming trends, what can you tell us about the upcoming trends for this winter season? What should we be looking out for, and looking to add to our winter wardrobes? [3:34:27 PM] maxinebenatar: There is a strong trend towards layering. Wearing a sheer dress with a thick heavy coat over it, warm scarf etc...Al ot of soft feminine styling, frills, ruffles, soft hemlines. [3:34:48 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: oohh, it sounds so pretty! [3:35:49 PM] Parisha Chetty: Jackets are always big every winter season. This season's jacket is the biker and the aviator jacket with sherpa fur collar. [3:36:27 PM] Parisha Chetty: We have these jackets in BOMBSHELL and SUPERSTAR. The JEGGINGS are also HUGE. [3:37:09 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Oh yay - I love biker jackets - I must admit I am actually looking forward to the change in season - love winter fashion, and now I know just where to go the get a great jacket :) [3:37:12 PM] Parisha Chetty: The sexy tight bodycon skirt is HOT HOT HOT!!! We have different styles in all the collections. [3:37:52 PM] Parisha Chetty: Also the bodycon dress...SUPER SEXY!!! You need a licence to wear these dresses.... ;) [3:38:00 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: hehee [3:38:24 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: sounds perfect to do some dancing in!

MINISTRY OF SOUND LAUNCHES 20:20 PROJECT Ministry of Sound is a flagship for British youth culture; an iconic brand that includes the world‟s most famous club, the world‟s largest independent record label, and a multimedia entertainment business, all directed from the company‟s South London home. 2011 is a significant milestone in Ministry of Sound‟s continuing evolution marking the 20th anniversary of the South London venue opening its doors as an alcohol-free nightclub dedicated to house music on 21st September 1991 (the former bus depot at 103 Gaunt Street remains the beating heart of the company‟s worldwide operations). To celebrate 20 years at the forefront of modern youth culture, Ministry of Sound has announced the 20:20 Project, an extensive range of activity throughout 2011 which includes a free month-long exhibition, a 3 day party celebrating the birthday at the London venue in September, a 20 date international tour, a fully searchable online timeline of the club over past 20 years and much more. The 20:20 Project launched on 4th March and had a free daytime exhibition and multi-media experience at the club, bringing to life the evolution of youth culture and dance music over the past 20 years. Showcasing a unique archive of photography, design, and featuring contributions from some of the biggest names in dance music, the exhibition is a must for anyone interested in youth culture, electronic music and the future of late night London. A year-by-year montage of iconic images (many unseen and sourced from DJs, promoters, and photographers) of the past two decades, with accompanying commentary provided by key individuals and DJs who were intrinsic to the club‟s creation and development. In association with Martin Audio, the company responsible for the club‟s infamous customised soundsytem, the exhibition also highlights Ministry of Sound‟s position as one of the leading pioneers of audio technology, with a multi-media installation in The Box (the club‟s main room) which features a range of artefact displays and a 5.5 metre LED wall made by Martin. Ministry of Sound also offered visitors the chance to play a track on the club‟s system and experience what it feels like to stand in the legendary DJ booth in the shoes of Pete Tong, David Guetta, Roger Sanchez, Larry Levan, Sasha and the rest of the world‟s superstar DJs, accompanied by projections, CO2 cannons and sound effects to recreate Saturday night headline slots.

The club‟s Baby Box room was returned to its original incarnation as a cinema, with two short films about Ministry of Sound‟s history, featuring interviews with leading clubland figures from the past two decades. The exhibition runs until 1st April. The wider calendar of 20:20 Project activity, including details of the birthday weekend celebration in September, international tour events, album releases, and more, will be announced in due course.

The World Online What is your BBM?....aah? „Sorry love, I don‟t do BBM‟ that was my response to almost everyone I came across with BB‟s! In fact about 3 years ago in London when BB‟s hit the tech world, did it not leave much impression on me for a very obvious reason which was; I do not want to receive my emails on the go. Why do that? I don‟t want to be pinged, dinged or tripled tinged. Fair enough if you were the corporate on the run and needed information on the go. What did little old me, who was probably waiting on my „then boyfriend to email me‟ or possibly text, need a berry for? Now, everywhere you go…it‟s as if the beauty and trendy bunch has conformed to the most insane, unsociable culture. You can be at a dinner party and it‟s as if they‟re waiting for some results of some sorts, you‟re sitting in a meeting and someone is slyly sending a message. You can be in a nightclub and it‟s as if you‟re BBM your drug dealer… In fact Blackberry has become technology designer mobile drugs to speak. What is it about being on the go and in the know (ha,ha) that keeps us so addicted? Why can‟t we just sometimes revert to back in the late 80‟s, whereby, if you needed to get hold of someone, you would A – phone them(landline that is), B-go past their home, C-you would write them a letter and D-if you were not able to get hold of them, then choose the latter. What is it you say? Being patient and just wait till you get hold of them. I hear you saying – but listen hunny, you would not be lying in bed with your laptop and writing this article if it weren‟t for the advancement of technology) Yes, yes, I hear you, but at least if you had capped your internet, you can write as many emails and still wait to send them…You get where I am going with this right? The point is, we have become so vulnerable by technology and mobile phones and all the easy communicating tools it projects and in some instances money savings elements. To this I have no objection and it does make a helluva a lot of difference when needing to get hold of someone. In private time that is. You know, the time for silly talk with your friends etc….Getting me to my next point… Blackberry was definitely not on tops of my list (smile, being objective here in my point ok-BB) but it seems it is a world one cannot escape, in fact it is almost the Facebook of mobile phones…for the masses….Like I was saying, I wasn‟t ever to confirm to this form of technology, but sadly after numerous request and miss opportunities to connect with some really fabulous individuals, made me wonder about this world that everyone was raving about. The one thing I didn‟t want to do, was to look as if I was being controlled by some remote of some sorts, as if you notice people on Berry‟s it looks like their heads and necks are pulled by a string, there is one solid movement (head tilted forward), fingers on the go, earphone in the ears and it looks like they are sometimes talking and thinking out loud. These very same individuals have eyes on the side of their heads and you can spot them miles away….Berry in one hand – walking at a rapid pace – multitasking, mind, messages and themselves….One thing I do have is control! I‟ve learned to master social situations, Berry stays hidden away, I switch it off and if someone really bores….well, then that is just a whole different story! Happy Berry-ing everyone….The new Torch has been around for a while in SA… „Ooh I think I need an upgrade‟!

We Said it! They Said it….

You Said it!

… He said it….

The trouble with men and women is that there are so many published books, paperback, articles, seminars, radio shows, television shows etc , oh and the list goes on, about the social behaviour of men and women that its almost impossible to keep track, what works and what doesn’t.

Even the most successful recipes to answering the daily questions relating to what it really is the fairer sex are after, can be confusing and somewhat, well frustrating. So many new rules and changes has come to all the different environment to the male/female sex, that to this point, I think we have all just given up and just said sod it! Aah well, let’s not give up that easily now, as there are some individuals who feel, that there is a fair chance at everything…

This is what You Said It is all about…. So not all lost….. Going back to some basics….we thought we’d start this month’s YSD about dating….what are the rules? Are there any? Do men and women think the same when it comes to strategy in dating? Lets find out……………… e

1. Do you feel it is necessary to play mind games when you like a guy?

2. Would you ask a guy out on a date or do you feel its a guys duty to do so?

3. What is your dating strategy?

4. What are your dating rules?

1. Mind games are a must! 2. I would ask a guy to go for a drinks. 3. Treat them mean keep them keen is my strategy… 4. I would have to think about my rules….ha ha RS,26,SA

1. NO 2. I would 3. Fun, light, spontaneous …. Keep it light, keep it fun. 4. all is fair in love and war, there are no rules….but that could explain why I am 32 and single x CB,32, SA

1. Games were fun when I was 5 years younger. Now i'm not wasting my time. There's no need for mature adults to play games, if he likes me he must let me know that. I'll do the same. 2. Bit of a traditionalist, would prefer to be asked, I like my men to be, well, men. 3. Dating rules: open the damn doors for me. Just because I'm feminist doesn't mean you can't treat me with the respect a lady deserves. Take me somewhere we can get to know each other. Don't sit on your cell phone. An best to keep controversial issues aside. And smile, it let's me know you're happy to see me. LO, SA

When you meet a girl and you fancy her and ask her out on a date, what rules automatically applies to taking her out on that date? Do you have a strategy that you use after a date? When you like a girl, do you play mind games? If no, explain and if yes explain why? How long after a date, will you give a girl a call?

On a date I tell her a little about me ! Not too much , There has got to be more than meats the eye . When we go out its to a busy place so I can see if she looks around at other guys , if I'm interested and loving her company ill suggest let's go somewhere a little more up beat ….MY RULES DK,SA 1.

Ensure she is the focus of my attention and although I will leave some element of mystery, I will try to reveal as much of the real me as possible. But ultimately its all about making sure we both have a good time. 2. wouldn't say it was a strategy but more so a natural instinct. If I like a girl, then I must have her lol my instinct is to always get what I want ;) 3. Yes indeed, mind games are all part of the process. The girl needs to know that although I am chasing her, she hasn't got all eternity to make up her mind, as I myself will be the prey for many another women. 4. f I haven't received a call or a text within a few days then I will call. Not a pestering call but just to show that I am interested and if she is not then fair do. But I'm not one to wait around for things to happen. DS,UK 1.

2. 3. 4.

I definitely would take her to one of my favourite restaurants and get to her know her. I also look at the way a woman behaves whilst out of with me, this already gives me indication on a second date. If she is interested and flirts with me, will think about taking it to the next level. Plus she has to be fairly fit…otherwise no date! If she was a bore, no second meeting, if she was fun, then definitely the 3 day rule… I like my women to have a bit of edge, so if I fancy her, I‟ll keep her guessing in a good way, if she gives, I give, if she play, I play! If I really like her, the next day to say what a great date I had, that she must enjoy her week. That shows interest and this gives me a chance to plan my second date with her, as have given her a heads up! KJ. EC

I managed to grab a few questions and answers from Jerome and this is what he had to say.. Hi Jerome, how are you? Hello, I‟m fine thanks! We are excited to have you in SA, would this be your first time? Yes, this will be my first time in south Africa and I'm also very excited Are you currently in Germany or travelling, as noticed you were in Miami on Twitter? I´m in Germany right now, have some time off. No gigs, but lots of studio work…. I take it you went to WMC? No, I was at the ultra music festival, I had to play at Ultra music festival and the FG pool party.

What excites you most about music and that feeling of, I am achieving lots? The feeling when I finish a song and I'm satisfied with the result, excites me a lot. To create something new gives me always a good feeling. You‟ve done some pretty impressive stuff, when it comes to producing, where do you hope to be 5 years from now? I was asking my self the same question just yesterday night. Will keep you posted…. How does it make you feel, when a track like „Hold that sucker down‟ was pushed aside by current no 1 DJ Armin, but seems to make headways on the dancefloors and a favourite amongst many dance followers? Well, I guess it shows me that I did something right ;) the original version of that song is a classic, I just gave it a new shape. What are you currently working on? I did a remake of snap-cult of snap which will be released this month on my label jee. The song is also featured on my mix cd for the DJ mag April issue. The weekend heroes (producer- and dj friends from Israel) and me just finished a song which will also be released on jee later this month. What can we expect from JIA in SA? A lot of new and unreleased productions and a dj set that will not allow anyone to just stand still around ;) You have remixed quite a few tracks for Faithless. what are your views on Faithless and their split? I just did one remix for faithless. The song was called “sun to me”. They split? Wow, I didn't even hear about this till now! Faithless is an outstanding project, with a very unique sound. Sad to hear, that they split….

Your music is just super sexy- funny thing is – oh and don‟t be disappointed (in my ITunes, I have several tunes rated 5 star – in fact yours – didn‟t even know it was you) , you have only recently come to my knowledge, but your remixes and music is powerful and sexy…what goes through your mind when producing such fabulous tunes? Do you wake up and just think, today I‟m going to produce and „tracktune‟ as you put it and make sure that it‟s one sexy deep, uplifting beat? It was a long journey and it took a bit of some life experiences to get to my own sound. It didn't come overnight. It was more like learning by doing for years and years. I released my first record in 1994 and If you listen to all my productions since then, you will hear how I improved the sound from release to release…….. I believe, DJ‟s who play sexy beats are sexy themselves, let alone naughty! Are you naughty? No... Jokes aside, what albums have you done? Collaborations? Since I released my first record in 1994, I could write you a list of over 300 productions and remixes here. Some of the stuff of the last years I did: remixes for Armin van buuren, Paul van dyk, faithless, way out west, snap, guru josh (infinity 2008, I received a golden record for my remix), escala (the winners of Britain got talent), above & beyond and so on……. Who are looking at working together with future wise? It would be great to work with artists of other genres to create something new….. I most certainly would like to see you get to the top, as I think you have talent and there is room for new Producers/DJ‟s to take no 1 spot, are you pushing for this? I´m not pushing for this, but why not. Its always good to have a goal, right?  What other elements to JIA is there, it seems you have quite a bit on the go? Its all about music and cars, I'm a never growing kid….. Where can we follow you? On twitter and facebook….or you can try to follow me at the autobahn, but you won´t make it, lol Thank you Jerome, we look forward to having you here, one last word from you……..thank you very much and I'm looking forward seeing you all in south Africa soon…It all began in Africa!!!!!!!

Finding Mr Right through online dating… part 1 Article written by Miss J*

“It‟s perfect for you! I can‟t believe I didn‟t suggest this before! Online dating is the way of the future. It‟s for professionals and intellectuals who don‟t have time to waste on stupid drunk bar pick ups and dating games. Besides, it‟s an ego booster and one sure way for you to get over Nic*.” This was how my (married) best friend convinced me, about a year ago, to join an online dating site. Seeing as my previous relationships, that came about through conventional methods, had all failed miserably anyway, I thought why not give it a go? Who knows, maybe I would find my Mr Right along this new dating avenue. What‟s the worse that could happen? Right? So that Saturday night my friend and I created my profile. It was just for fun anyway, so to add a little humour we got creative with the profile description. Instead of going through the boring norms of describing what I would want most in my ideal man, we made a list of all the things that I did not want in a man. We based this list on bad habits and experiences from my previous relationships and of course gross things I wouldn‟t want to come across in future. A few on the list included not wanting a man who has his ex‟s name tattooed on his body, has a homeless mother, has flesh tunnels, nylon shorts, a mullet, a third nipple or snores (unless he was really, really good looking, in which case I could make an exception of course!) We uploaded a nice pic or two and gave a brief description of my physical attributes (all true of course)…and then I started browsing for my “favourites”… Boy, oh boy was this getting fun! It was like having a catalogue of men to choose from. I could pick them at any age, height, hair and eye colour and even their body build! You could even read up on their occupation, level of education and income (assuming they were honest about it…) I was in single girl heaven! I added a few cuties to my „favourite‟ cart that night. One guy, who nicknamed himself Brusky*, had a very nice profile description and he looked cute too, so without hesitation I added him to the sausage cart…

...I had no idea just how much my single life was going to change over the next few months. This was the start to a whole new chapter of dating experiences! I started getting hits on my profile and fans by the dozens!!! My friend was right, I loved the attention! I had numerous mails streaming in day after day! I didn‟t even have to pay for membership because there was always a kind gentleman who would surprise me by buying a gift subscription! This was so much fun… As previously mentioned, one of the guys I added to my „favourite‟ cart was Brusky*. He saw that I was a fan of his, made contact with me and that was how we started our online chat! Brusky* was delightful to chat to and was really funny! He was such a sweetie but at the same time sexy and flirty too! Our online relationship eventually reached a point where it either had to materialise into an actual meeting or fizzle out…so he asked me for my cell number so that he could phone me to invite me out on a date. He had the sexiest voice I could have imagined to match his sweet face, which made me even more eager to meet him… “What should we do?” he asked. Assuming he would suggest dinner or drinks, or something normal along those lines, he hit me for a six when he asked “want to get a DVD and cuddle?” – Heh? For our first date? Did I hear that right? Did he just ask for cuddles? I don‟t think so buddy! So I replied with a flirtatious giggle, “Maybe on another night, once we get to know each other a little better? Why don‟t we go for dinner or drinks?” “Cool, let‟s meet at my house. We can have a drink there and then go grab a bite to eat” he suggested. I wasn‟t too keen to meet at his house, but agreed anyway... He was much taller than I expected, but luckily his face matched the one he used the website! That was a relief! After we greeted in the driveway he led me around the back of the house through the garden to his room – he still lived at home with his mom! He was really excited about having his own private entrance and said that he was living there because mom was lonely…mmm. Did I forget to mention he was 32 years old? What a disappointment!

So at that introduction I knew then that he wasn‟t going to be my next boyfriend (never mind Mr Right), so I figured, why not just enjoy the company for the evening and possibly make a new friend. I was offered a warm beer which I sat drinking awkwardly on his couch trying to keep my cool and making small talk. Then after and hour or so he asked “so, are you hungry? Have you had supper?” I am not joking people; yes he seriously asked me that! Which led me ask myself what on earth I was doing there again? We eventually left his „grand‟ apartment and went for dinner which was at the nearest Italian restaurant and had pizza and wine. Thank goodness for the wine! Without it our conversations would have been very, very dry. I just wanted to go home. He did insist on paying for the meal which was a plus on his chart, but when we arrived back at his place and he invited me in for another beer, I just couldn‟t go back in there! He tried to kiss me, but I obviously just couldn‟t… I made some lame excuse to get out of there as soon as I could and drove off in a big hurry leaving him still standing in the driveway of his mother‟s house. I received a few chat messages from Brusky* after that night inviting me over to cuddle with him. I told him I would stay friends with him but there wouldn‟t be any cuddles between us. His response was that “Friends can cuddle too!” I kept telling him that friends don‟t cuddle because cuddles eventually lead to sex and I wasn‟t going there. That was my first online dating experience. Okay, it wasn‟t the best first date, but I can‟t judge the whole concept on one lousy date right? Besides my Mr Right was still out there somewhere….So I kept chatting on the site and not too long after my first date I was invited on another. Date number two… * The names in this article have been changed to keep the characters anonymous.

Review By Nina Zani

Aah, we love Cape Town! There are so many fabulous places and spaces that pop up and that just means we have to explore more! I have to laugh though as this particular venue has been around for a year (so much for being in the know), and with a name like French Toast who would've thought! In fact when I received the invitation to FT, I actually thought we were going for French toast and champers....hmmmm! Typical! Yip darlings, there is an amazing tapas and wine bar – and they do have a great main food menu available too and it's called French Toast. Situated near upper Bree Street, in fact the old Mardi Grass (dress up store) and opposite Boss Models, will you find this little piece of heaven for the slightly more older, discerning crowd and who enjoys good music, good food and great atmosphere! We were of course invited to event - "Travelling Tunes by Tess Prince - who is aiming at hosting eclectic parties playing an array of music to which you will find Tess‟s style of tunes pops up anything from the 50's up to the latest beats! The event was to cater to all individuals especially promoting a gay friendly environment, thus creating a rather unique open afternoon for everyone to enjoy! French Toast is an amazing venue. Carefully selected and styled ,it most certainly is a venue where you'd be visiting late Saturday afternoons or just after work drinks but definitely a place that must be visited! It can be slightly pricy, but don‟t fear, as it is worth the spend.... We‟ll definitely be going back and experience the nigh time vibe, so we‟ll keep you posted! www.frenchtoastwines.com
