NATALIE BECKER INTERNATIONAL ACTRESS

‘NB: I spent last year clearing the decks and it

out with the old, so now it’s all new and was

I am co-creating it every minute but it includes going global as well as building on projects here in SA, so I am a global citizen and free to be wherever I’d like to be for work and projects’

ITKMAG: Natalie, Natalie, Natalie…this has been the long awaited interview, but due to all the changes and things, we had to postpone…how are you? NB: I am well thanks Nina! Blessed and grateful :J :last year was year of cleansing and clearing for me and for distilling my life, so I jumped out of most of my comfort zones into new territory, challenging but liberating and rewarding! ITKMAG: How was your Christmas and New Year? NB: Great! Perfect mix of family, friends and fab times! ITKMAG: What do you think of our summer this far? Are you a summer or winter person? NB: This summer is so HOT! I love summer evenings and I love seasons, I love that we have different seasons and that we get to do different things during those different seasons. Summer is much more outdoorsy adventurous time and winter more contemplatitive and reflective. I enjoy all the seasons! ITKMAG: You have been doing lots of exciting projects, tell us about it… NB: I have a new BBBC movie coming out with Reece Richie called Atlantis: End of a world, Birth of a legend‖ and looking at some new film and exciting projects this year. Also launching my new site www.nataliebeckerlive as well as some exciting collaborations and live events coming up which you will have to watch this space for. But this year is definitely one for expansion, growth, travel and new adventures.

itk9

ITKMAG: I know you are trying to break the international circuit in film and TV; is this difficult task? NB: I am fortunate to be able to work with the most amazing international and local artist right here in RSA, such as John a] Malkovich, William H Macy, Lisa Ray, Meg Ryan and Reece Richie and with some great directors on amazing projects and they are fantastic stepping stones for an international career, so it‘s about being represented there now as well as here. I believe you can do anything you set your mind to and any task whether it‘s difficult or easy, it there to help you grow and evolve, whatever the outcome, so one ‗s just got to go for it! J ITKMAG: You went to states a while back? Please confirm, I know you mentioned this… NB: Nina, I have improved on my plan which now includes a more global approach, including being anywhere in the world I‘d like to be to follow my passions and work. So it includes the states but also other continents and places. ITKMAG: So where does 2011 take you? NB: I spent last year clearing the decks and it was out with the old, so now it‘s all new and I am co-creating it every minute but it includes going global as well as building on projects here in SA, so I am a global citizen and free to be wherever I‘d like to be for work and projects. ITKMAG: What is Natalie me- time? NB: walks in nature, horse riding, swimming in the ocean or scuba diving, running along the ocean or Ocean View drive, or sometimes just losing myself in a great book or on the darkness of a small art house movie. Sometimes it just involves a long bath with good salts and nice- smelling candles with classical music in the background.

itk11

I also love taking open- ended days where I spend time doing every creative thing that come to mind- usually it involves me sitting on the floor and lots of paper and coloured pens and books. I also love picnics and sharing meals and good times with family, close friends and loved ones. A good massage or facial also never hurt anyone ;) ITKMAG: Your view on 2010 and your favourite highlights? NB: hard one, will get back to you on this one J ITKMAG: If you could play a leading role, who would be the director? Who would be your co-star and what would the movie be? NB: probably the story of my life lol! -pretty eventful and it has all the elements J I would love to work with some many great directors, Clint Eastwood comes to mind because of Million Dollar Baby and all his other masterpieces but there are many. Co-start wow – hard one but I would definitely like to work with John Malkovich again and Meryl Streep always! Clive Own is brilliant and so are Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron, Al Pacino, Colin Firth, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. It would be fun to do an action movie with Angelina Jolie. So many good new actors as well, this is an impossible question!

Two years later and Miss Adele has gained another 2 fabulous years of producing yet another great cd. There are some nice tunes on her album, my favourite being ‗If it hadn‘t been for love‘ and Rolling in the deep‘. A good buy for your collection, whether it‘s a cd or download!

A-Ha, well if you are not a fan, then I cannot say much about that. They are undoubtedly one of the coolest 80‘s bands around. I remember watching the Top 40 every Friday (yes giving away my age now) and boogying away to their songs. This album has all the top hits and favourites. A fabulous buy. One of my favourites still has to be ‗Take on me‘…

Not heard of Jack Parow? Where have you been? I‘m totally vibing his tunes. I‘ve not read a more entertaining playlist like this in a while, nor have I really listened to many of the Afrikaans artist out there. ‗Cooler as ekke‘ is definitely a ‗cool track‘ ek se‘..ha ha…

In the course of the film both couples find their lives turned upside down by their unfulfilled longings. Summer love is hanging thick in the air this month. ITK brings you fashion tips to fall in love, all over again, even if it‘s with yourself! It is time to be beautiful and bold, and smoulder in all the romantic colours of love….. F A S H I O N

Slinging Satchels: The hottest bag without question for any self respecting fashion lover is the sexy satchel. This bohemian trend is just big enough for the essentials – peach lip gloss, cell phone, cash, and just small enough to not get in the way of some serious partying. ITK suggests getting it in tribal print, or vintage leather, incorporating two of the other big trends this season. ITK recommends the beautiful Missibaba Possum bag pictured, available from www.missibaba.com

Jump on the bandwagon: Have some fun with your style this month, and dare to wear the jiggy jumpsuit. It has come back from the 80‘s with a vengeance, and is the perfect weapon to steal the limelight in! Team it with towering heels for a night on the town or cute pumps for lunch with the ladies. This season it is available in various styles, short or long, skinny fit or harem pant, floral, denim and a range of colour – so there are no excuses – there really is a style to suite everyone. ITK‘s Valentine‘s date tip has to be the Jumpsuit - the perfect way to look glam, without trying too hard!

Itk 27

Summer scarves: looking for that missing piece to make

your outfit pop? Summer scarves are a charming new alternative to draw all the attention to you! They can be fun, adding a bright bit of colour, or light and silky, to finish your look off. They are a great way to play with your image, without having to spend a fortune!

F A S H I O N

Lingerie Love: The best beauty secret this month is sexy, beautiful lingerie. Nothing quite has the power to make a woman feel confident and irresistible quite like the hidden power of lovely lingerie. This month embrace your inner romantic and indulge in pretty pinks and pastels, with just enough lace to make it naughty! ITK is coveting this Pink Satin Balconette Set by Ruby. www.ruby.co.za.

Dress to impress: Dress me up and take me out on the town! Dresses are still a summer favourite and have made a strong showing this

season. For an updated look ITK recommends dressing yourself with the now fabulously fashionable floral. Floral prints are no longer for your Gran,

and it is time to embrace this gloriously feminine trend. Match it with a high-waisted belt, and you will be as sweet as sugar pie, just the thing to sweep your man off his feet! Fashion by Zoe Coetzee

[10:53:52 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Hi Greta [10:54:09 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: How are you on this fine day? [10:55:08 AM] foxandlocket: Hi Zoe! Great thanks, how are you? [10:55:36 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: I am feeling all good! Thanks for joining ITK for a chat! [10:55:54 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: So tell us - who is Fox & Locket? [10:56:42 AM] foxandlocket: Fox & Locket is my range of handbags and accessories. [10:57:30 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: That‘s such an interesting name, where does it come from? [11:00:22 AM] foxandlocket: Well, an awesomely talented graphic designer friend of mine Jenna Shone came up with the name and branding. "Fox" just sounds plain sexy, and because I often adorn items with vintage brooches and jewellery- the "Locket" refers to that. [11:02:39 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: I love it! Sexy vintage - what more could a girl want! So you recently moved to the Mother City after being a Durban girl your whole life, are you enjoying Cape Town? [11:04:10 AM] foxandlocket: Ah, Cape Town is amazing. Beautiful, fun and so much creative design stuff going on.

[11:05:47 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Cape Town is definitely the perfect place to be! Tell us about your new range coming out in February? What is the look of it and some of the inspiration behind it? [11:10:00 AM] foxandlocket: Well, the range is inspired by travelling around the world in Art Deco transportation...heh heh. (I'm a sucker for deco). Think graphics of bullet trains in high perspective, biplanes and oldsmobile cars. The bags are fairly small and neat, and look kind of "retro-futuristic". [11:12:14 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Ooh, that sounds fabulous! Can't wait to see them, there is something crazy cool about Art Deco! Where do you source your fabrics from and what type of materials to your work with? [11:20:12 AM] foxandlocket: I like to support South Africa and cut down on carbon by using fabric that is made, printed and sold locally. I use a lot of Capetonians, Heather Moore (skinnylaminx.com) and Jesse Breytenbach's (jessebreytenbach.co.za) textiles; as well as fabric from Da Gama. I use natural fibres- cotton and linens; because I love them and you can see the inherent quality in them. There is some leather in the range, which is all from off cuts!

itk37

[11:22:10 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: That is great - it is always such an important thing to support our local industry, and oh so green! Kudos! What was your path to becoming a designer? I heard you actually studied architecture!

[11:27:26 AM] foxandlocket: That's true- I completed my Bachelors degree in Architecture, and worked as an architect for a few years. Doing that taught me how to design beautiful structures that fulfil their function well. I started sewing when I was 10, and have always had an interest in fashion- so translating skills from designing buildings to bags makes sense for me!

itk39

[11:29:06 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: It does indeed, and I guess that is where the beautiful shapes and structures of your bags come from :) You started off designing dresses, how did that grow into bags and accessories? [11:34:31 AM] foxandlocket: My first love is dresses (Which girl doesn't love dresses ;)), and I still occasionally design one-of a kind silk and jewel dresses; but basically the demand for the bags exploded and so focussing on these items was a natural progression for the brand. I have noticed that people love to buy accessories as gifts, and finding something special for someone special is always the best feeling. [11:35:37 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: I know this is a tough question, but do you have a favourite piece? [11:40:36 AM] foxandlocket: Ooh, that is a tough one. I love the new "For all Travellers" range of bags, but my favourite piece has to be the Siren Song dress. It is a midnight blue cocktail dress with parchment-delicate straps and a 90 year old French Limoges brooch which I designed the dress around. The brooch is hand painted with a ship on a stormy sea. [11:43:01 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: I am experiencing fashion jealousy at that description! What are some of the accessories you do - I saw a very cute cupcake apron you designed? [11:45:38 AM] foxandlocket: Aprons yes! Also "travellers" tiny pillow covers that fit those in-flight pillows they give you; utility/ hip belts and things like that. [11:47:09 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Now for a very important question, are you a tea or coffee drinker? I feel this reveals fundamental questions of personality ;) [11:47:40 AM] foxandlocket: Both! But if I HAD to choosecoffee.

[11:48:54 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Yay! That is very comforting to know! Getting back to the basics, where can us fashion lovers find your range? [11:49:56 AM] foxandlocket: You can check out our website foxandlocket.com for current local stockists; and you can also order online. [11:50:37 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Do you sell any products on an international platform? [11:52:14 AM] foxandlocket: Yes, products are sold internationally via etsy.com; we have exported to America, Singapore, Australia and the UK. [11:54:33 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: What kind of site is etsy.com? In your experience do you think the South African fashion industry is successfully competing on an international level? [11:56:01 AM] foxandlocket: Etsy is like ebay but for handmade goods. And yes I think South Africa has incredibly talented people who are being recognised internationally- I think something in the water in SA breeds creativity. [11:58:08 AM] ITK MAGAZINE: Hahhaaa! I agree with you! One of the special aspects of Fox & Locket is that for every bag sold, you donate one. How does that work and who do you donate the bags to? [12:01:17 PM] foxandlocket: Yup, I wanted Fox & Locket to do something good for people in need. In the past we have donated bags to kids in children's homes, with sweets and clothes with them- we are also in contact with Jes Foord to donate bags to her project which gives a handbag filled with necessary items to rape victims.

[2:04:30 PM] scott langley: Very good to hear [2:04:38 PM] scott langley: At least your busy [2:04:46 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Yeah, keeps me out of trouble! [2:04:49 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: :) [2:04:55 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: So is this early for you? [2:05:12 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: I know DJ's like to sleep late! [2:05:15 PM] scott langley: No, I get up like 5am 6am 7am… always have [2:05:21 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Really [2:05:25 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Aah [2:05:29 PM] scott langley: Yes, I don‘t sleep much

[2:05:42 PM] scott langley: Which is hard on planes too, as I can‘t ever sleep [2:05:42 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: So even after a massive gig do you wake up early? [2:05:51 PM] scott langley: Always [2:06:02 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Well, when you're flying you should try sleeping tablets!! [2:06:03 PM] scott langley: I‘ll get in at say 7am, I‘ll be up and about by 10 [2:06:09 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Oh wow! [2:06:13 PM] scott langley: I take valium sometimes on planes… [2:06:31 PM] scott langley: but when I‘m not DJing I fall asleep like 9 -10pm. [2:06:43 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Ok, so there is some kind of balance..... [2:06:55 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Valiums? Is that legal?..... [2:07:11 PM] scott langley: Sure I‘m cool, I hear if you do not sleep much you‘re a very productive person…. [2:07:19 PM] scott langley: Yes, its legal hahaha and nice [2:07:25 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Ha ha... [2:07:37 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Do you get it over the counter? I'm curious? [2:07:57 PM] scott langley: No, doc has to prescribe it… [2:08:00 PM] scott langley: Thailand you can get over the counter… [2:08:13 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Oh ...ha ha ha... [2:08:24 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: So I would have to travel far to get it then… [2:08:27 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: No just kidding! [2:08:57 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: So, [2:09:14 PM] ITK MAGAZINE:...DJing??? When, Where, Why? [2:10:12 PM] scott langley: Ok, I started off when I was 14, me and a mate playing about on decks. When I was 16 I bought my first paid 12.10s. Just loved it I, started young and wanted to be a DJ in control…

[2:10:35 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Aah...12.10s....vinyl right? [2:10:50 PM] scott langley: Yes that‘s right 21 years ago- CDs where not about hahaha [2:10:53 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: I know! [2:11:10 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: I think it's sad that vinyl has been phased out... [2:11:23 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: Don't you miss the authenticity behind it all? [2:11:58 PM] scott langley: Me too nothing like it… these DJs, well so called DJs, who started like the last 2 years on a PC, I think it‘s wrong they call themselves DJs, but really, I don‘t think so. [2:12:16 PM] scott langley: Funny enough I only changed to CD‘s about 3-4 years ago… [2:12:31 PM] ITK MAGAZINE: I understand it's the 'new age movement' with technology progressing and so and so on... [2:12:37 PM] scott langley: but at least CDs I play are like records so it‘s kind of the same… [2:13:12 PM] scott langley: I just don‘t ever see myself playing to a crowd on a pc. New Mercedes-Benz SLK Since ITK has to be on top of everything, and me being a specks freak, I found something that is going to change the revolution of driving! A couple of issues ago we did the Audi A8 which gave you the option to select the driving options to suite every driver, that was nice, until Mercedes Benz came along yet again with a revolutionary discovery. No better model was selected that there classy SLK. Mercedes has unveiled the 2011 SLK roadster, the third generation of the vehicle since it first arrived in 1996. The face of the Mercedes-Benz SLK receives a becoming redesign for 2011, featuring all-new headlights that hark back to the Mercedes 190 SL from the 1950s. As you have seen on the pictures, it’s not an old money car anymore! It’s almost confusion to the modern SL and CLC.

Mercedes will roll out the all-new SLK in 200, 250, and 350 model options. The 200 and 250 variants pack a 1.8litre four-cylinder engine producing 185 hp and 204 hp, respectively. The 200 model completes the 0-60 sprint in fewer than seven seconds, the 250 besting that time by four-tenths of a second while also achieving 45.5 mpg in the combined cycle.

Arguably the most buzz-worthy feature on the new Benz SLK is the roadster’s Magic Sky Control that Benz will soon reveal in a world premiere. Magic Sky Control offers a panoramic roof option that allows the driver to change the glass roof’s color from dark to light with the touch of a button. Taking the option into mind, if Mercedes can change the colour of glass, what will be next?

itk93

The SLK 350 boasts a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 306-hp output—the same amount as rival BMW Z4 35i—and completes the 0-60 mph jaunt in about 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. A steel suspension comes standard, but drivers can opt for a sports configuration with stiffer dampers and springs, or choose the Dynamic Handling option that offers continually adjustable automatic damping. The suspension basically senses various road conditions and reacts accordingly. Choose your mood for the day, and your car will react to keep you in control and safe.

The 2011 MercedesBenz SLK will debut in the United Kingdom in June of this year, with Mercedes announcing sticker prices as the date nears.

We expect nothing less to a car with expectation. The Dynamic Handling bundle also offers torquevectoring disc brakes, which during intensive braking, Mercedes says, ―produce a defined rotational movement of the vehicle about the vertical axis in fractions of seconds through selective brake actuation at the rear wheel on the inside of the bend.‖ In other words, the torque-vectoring brakes lend additional stability during cornering. Previously it was known that a car with a perfect center balance has got the best stability. The new SLK does the same with the new torque- vectoring disc breaks.

Interior and style will stay functional, sporty and classy as always. But with the new shape, the colour chaining roof or convertible, who believes in looking inside the car?

Boys, it is time to buckle up this month and put your best foot forward! Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but you‘ve got to catch that eye! ITK has some great fashion tips for you this month to make sure that you are in tip top shape for the month of love.

The long and short of it: On those sticky summer days,

sometimes it is just too damn hot to wear your favourite jeans. Fortunately this summer shorts are now a great solution. You can now dress them up or down, making them your most versatile wardrobe basic. Add a belt and collared shirt, with some loafers for the preppy look, or your favourite tee and sandals for a more laidback look. Colour is really hot this month, so be bold and do it in bright colours to make sure you‘re no wallflower.

Rollin with the boys: Scuffed pants that drag along the

ground are a major no no! This summer if you are wearing pants, they should be rolled, rolled, rolled! This trend has already taken over Europe and has now reached our shores. This works particularly well with skinny and slim fit pants, another must this season. Forget your biceps, it is all about the ankles now!

I T K B O Y S

It’s all in the detail: One thing a lady appreciates is a man

itk96

who knows how to dress, but one thing that a man often overlooks and a lady always notices is the small details. Adding a simple accessory can take your look from dreary to delicious. Be it a buckle or a belt, a big do is shining up with an innovative detail. Rock a floral belt with your jeans and a white tee for a fun way to update the look. Keep your eye out for items with special details, like these great Men‘s Drawstring Denim Pants and Hawaiian Canvas Belt, both from the Holmes Bros. Fashion by Zoe Coetzee

We said it…… They Said it………..

YOU SAID IT

Say What? Why is it, that men and women just don‟t seem to get one another? Or is just the male vs. female ongoing debate? Here the ladies and gentlemen view their say!

itk98

We thought going back to the basics is a good place to start as well as throw in a bit of valentines day Q‟s and A‟s seeing that it is around the corner… 1.What annoys you most about women? (Gents) 2. What annoys you most about men? (Ladies) 3. The funniest valentine's experience you've ever had? 4. How should you celebrate Valentine's day if you are Single? Nathaniel Van Wyk 1. They never listen till u done explaining. 3.When a girl came walking towards me with a bunch of flowers and I thought it was for me, but it was meant 4 the guy behind me, ouch! Lol Jean-Pierre Vetter 1. They'd make the same mistakes over and over again. 3. Never paid much attention to that day! Never had funny experience. 4. Wish every girl I know that's single (G) Richard Adonis 1. It depends what her most annoying quality is; revealing personal stuff during "girl talks"... annoying, epically so James B 1. My ex used to bitch about her friends all the time, but when she saw them, they‘d be best mates. What is with that? 3. I once sent a puzzle(naked picture with a heart on my ‗JOLLY‘) of myself to my then girl , when by mistake I addressed the post to MR rather than Ms (Her dad had the same initials as my her). I never lived down the day, I am now married to her.

Mishqah Mohan 2.) I hate that men feel the need to broadcast things that need to be kept private.. 3) when I was in grade 7 a guy gave me a R5 to buy myself a chocolate...lol

Liezel Thomas Johns 2-Men never learn from their mistakes... 4- Go on a blind date..or get drunk. Jodie Leigh Michaels ‎2. What annoys me most about men, is when they leave the toilet seat up!!! 4.Spend it with other single friends, partying up a storm.

Nicole Bryant 2. Why do men think it‘s ok to cheat on women , especially when they think they have mastermind two women in one city, don‘t they know that these things get found out! 4. Valentine‘s day is a great day to be single, go to a flower shop a day before and send yourself your favourite flowers to work. When you receive the anonymous flowers addressed to you, you can just be smug and smile. My advice, let it be humorous. Betina Lester 2. Men who don‘t know what they want. One minute they love you, the next they don‘t. Then a few weeks later, you find out they are engaged with a random girl they only started dating then. How does that work? 4. Book into a suit and invite all your girl friends over for champagne, sushi, Lindt chocolate and have make-over‘s done. Questions by Winston Beneke

The following lyrics /tunes are enough to make you want to fire the writer and tell him to stop writing…at ONCE!!!! Some of the tunes are ancient and the artist probably passed on, back in the day, this is what made the hearts tick! I think! Really bad… •This tops our list… it is hilarious…. „Sometimes when we touch‟ by Dan Hill •This is even scarier – „Lavender‟ by Mariollion •„It started with a kiss‟ by Hot Chocolate….please kill the DJ if he ever had to play this!

Now these according to ITK are the break up classics… •How to mend a broken heart by Al Green…. we hope none of you are experiencing break ups…but this a good classic…just in case ok! •I can‟t make you love me by George Michael ….well this is the more sensible break up tune… •Against all odds by Phil Collins…this is the sad one, that makes you want to curl up and cry…but all good in the end (we‘ve all been through that one!)

itk102

First Stages of love •I want to know what love is by Foreigner – this proper old skool mushy…but it works…. •Woman by John Lennon •Right here waiting for you by Richard Marx – even more so mushier…but great … •Lovesong by The Cure •Too lost in you by Sugababes – obsessed about the love…but great beat… •This modern love –by Bloc Party – when you are running on the treadmill…you will smile and just be happy… •Four to the floor – Starsailor – you want to have this play in a club…with your other half on the far end of the dancefloor…with both of you shimming up to one another as the DJ spins the tune…

Getting it on •Move closer by Phyllis Nelson – old skool sexy…. •Lovers lane –Island Memories – the seductive kind of stuff! •Slaxwax-feat.Trinah – Midnight – ooh very smooth seductive…bring out the champagne… •Pure Shores – All Saints – •Falling Rain by Alexandre Desplat •Hey Lover by LL Cool J…well this is just that groovy kind of sexiness… •Colorblind by Counting Crows…well…..

Super loved up •Slave to love by Bryan Ferry – a good 80‘s classic •Stay with me till dawn by Judie Tzuke ….. •Heartbeats by Joze Gonzalez •I‟m Kissing you by Desere – aah….this is really beautiful •Kissing by Bliss •You do something to me by Paul Weller •All these years by Fous de La Mar

The Cape Royal – NOT SO ROYAL AT ALL!

O U R S A Y

Where do I begin? Well, you see, since the launch of The Cape Royal, Green Point ,many of us thought, wow, The Waldorf Astoria – right out of Gossip Girl…Exclusive, Upmarket, A hotel/living space with a touch of class ! The address to have! Or is it just another one of those Cape Town establishments with a lot of pretence (just like the typical Capetonian). Gorgeous on the outside, but once you look deeper into the inside, it is as hollow as one of those nasty ‗Easter Eggs‘ you would buy at Shoprite. A touch of class in looks but that is as far as it goes. In fact, the story begins on the afternoon of 29 January, 2010. That very same morning my hairdresser told me that the venue is absolutely amazing! Seth Rotherham from Two Oceans Vibe wrote fabulous reviews on The Cape Royal – living the high life! My girlfriends, when one mentions – ‗Oh he has the address of ‗The Cape Royal‘ cannot stop smiling, you‘d think their pearly white teeth would start falling out one tooth at a time. I have to admit, I am long gone the plush and fabulous establishments you see, especially in Cape Town. Somehow the minute something new opens with 5 star quality; they never seem to live up to their reputation. I enjoy the finer things in life, but one thing that irks me most, is when you deal with venues and staff of a place of such calibor. It should not matter who you are, you should get treated accordingly and that your ‗ every move and presence be recorded and that you get given the ‗Royal‘ treatment. Plus money and class does not always represent ‗BLING AND BOLD STATEMENTS BY WEARING LOUIS VUITTON SLAP BANG IN YOUR FACE‘ Come on now people! According to The Cape Royal, the venue has a 5 star rating(and looking deeper into this, it has no such rating at all) You see, a venue has to go through a series of test so to speak before you can get accreditation to your stars. But hey, this is The Cape Royal, let‘s slap up a Multimillion Rands apartment, get the best interior decorators on board and get the image that is needed, get your staff to look good– and I bet non of their suits are of top designer quality either! That of course is just on the periphery. On my arrival and as I stepped onto the red carpet – it was rather filthy as renovations was taking place in an open space within the building – a to let space – a restaurant area. The door was opened swiftly from the inside and I was greeted by the ‗doorman‘ He guided me to the concierge –NOW CONCEIRGE MEANING – MY JOB IS TO ORGANISE YOU ANYTHING, ANYWHERE, AND WILL GO TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH TO MAKE SURE, AS A GUEST, A GUEST OF OUR CLIENT, A GUEST TO THE HOTEL, walks out with an experience that will make you want to come back time and time again and even start dreaming of how you would rob a bank or kidnap your wealthy ex boyfriend and put up a hideous amount as Ransom for him – just so that you can own an apartment in the building.

itk106

Firstly, as I stepped down to his ‗desk area‘ he (organiser man the man who rules the roost-Concierge that is) was in a conversation with another guest, who clearly lives in the building- fair enough. When they saw me, the conversation ended, the guest left, he acknowledge me again, plus then prompted I was going to room, so and so. Not once did he offer for me to sit in the chairs provided. Not once did he offer me something to drink. -It was a scorcher of day outside. Plus regardless of how long or short my stay was to be -with him at his ‗front desk‘ it is the service provided that will make me think, -aah, this is of top notch quality.
