A 2010 graduate of Buchanan High School…played all four years for the varsity squad…set the Buchanan High School record with 1,535 career points…was key in upgrading a program that went from being winless in the Tri-River Athletic Conference his freshman season to sharing the league title and making the Central Section Division I final as a senior…a two-time first team all-conference selection, including the Tri-River Athletic Conference MVP and first team all-Metro (by the Fresno Bee) as a senior…during the 2009-10 season, he helped Buchanan to a 23-8 overall record while leading the team in scoring (17.7), rebounding (7.8) and steals (1.9)…as a junior, he was first team all-conference and second team all-Valley after posting team highs in points (16.6 per game), rebounds (6.2 per game) and steals (2.0 per game)…two-time team captain…a second team all-conference choice as a sophomore.

Personal Born May 29, 1991…parents are DeRon and Lisa Carbajal…a business major…has basketball in his bloodlines, as his grandfather, Frank, was a longtime head coach and member of both the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the Northern Colorado Athletics Hall of Fame, where he played from 1958-61…Carbajal’s father, DeRon, also has high school head coaching experience.

A 2010 graduate of Hyde Leadership High School in Hamden, Conn…four-year member of the varsity squad and three-year starting point guard…a three-time all-state selection (first team as a senior, honorable mention as a sophomore and junior) and two-time first team all-conference choice…led the Howling Wolves to a state championship and their first undefeated season in school history (27-0) in 2009-10…that season, the team also finished the year ranked third in the state while Groom averaged 14.1 points, 7.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game…in Hyde’s 70-58 win over Prince Tech in the 2010 state championship game, Groom had six points, 11 assists, five rebounds and five steals in 30 minutes…as a junior, he averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 assists and 2.9 steals per game while leading the team to a state finals appearance…the Howling Wolves won either the league championship or a share of the league title each of his final three years…was also the starting quarterback and safety for Hyde’s football team and led the squad to a state championship and an 11-1 record in 2009…combined between his basketball and football exploits, Groom won two state titles and those teams combined for a 38-1 record during the 2009-10 academic year…started at quarterback each of his final two years and was a first team all-conference selection each season.
