INTRODUCTION Dear Hornet Fans,

Bill Macriss Director of Athletics

On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, I want to thank you for considering a gift to support Sacramento State Athletics. Our Athletics program has made significant gains in recent years and we are confident that, with your continued support, we will celebrate even greater accomplishments in the years to come. As articulated in our Strategic Plan, Intercollegiate Athletics serves the essential role of connecting the University to the community, growing Sacramento State’s visibility and adding to the overall college experience. The impact of a successful Hornet Athletics program extends well beyond the playing field. It advances the mission of the University, contributes to the lives of its students, generates pride in our incredible alumni and supporters, and enhances the quality of life in the Sacramento region. Your emotional and financial support allows us to strengthen our commitment to student-athletes on the field and in the classroom. Whether you are a long-time supporter or considering making a donation for the first time, please know your contribution is critical to our success. Every dollar you provide Hornet Athletics is an investment in the lives of more than 500 Sacramento State student-athletes. I hope you will “join the team by supporting Hornet Athletics with your gift. Your continued backing has a huge impact on the lives of so many deserving Sacramento State student-athletes.

! Bill Macriss

1 10 % CHALLENGE

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE 110%... Every day, coaches, professors, and parents challenge our Hornet student-athletes to push themselves to their fullest potentials and give 110% both in the classroom and on the field of competition. Now we are challenging the rest of our team, you, to do the same by giving 110% of your support to Sacramento State Athletics. We are asking you, Hornet fans, to increase your previous year’s donation by ten percent for your 2015-16 gift. The Athletics Department has dedicated our efforts toward providing optimal resources for our student-athletes in order to help them continue their recent academic and athletic successes. Your additional assistance can directly fund student-athletes’ tuition, team operating expenses, as well as upgrades in facilities. Being 110% means to lead by example, and just as we ask our student-athletes to take charge on campus, we want our esteemed supporters to lead by example as well. Take the 110% challenge and join us in our team’s pursuit for excellence for Sacramento State Athletics.

ARE YOU 110%?

THE POWER OF 1,000 HORNETS Sacramento State is a hub for many community activities, yet we lack an indoor seating arena to properly accommodate our Hornet Athletics teams as well as other important large-attendance gatherings for our university.

The University Strategic and Master Plans call for a solution: the construction of a central campus arena that will serve athletic, academic, and entertainment attractions. To accelerate the process to seek approval for the Event Center from California State University, dedicated funds must be committed in support of the facility. This Event Center is a Sacramento State priority that will entail backing from multiple stakeholders—alumni, donors, faculty and staff, students, and community and corporate partners—so we need everyone to hear this call to action.

15

The Proposed Arena will be a modern, multi-use facility that will enhance the fan experience for various athletics events and provide many of our student-athletes with the top notch home venue they deserve. It will also increase programming and services for activities such as Commencement, educational sessions, performing arts shows, and speaker presentations. Furthermore, this site will provide on-campus student employment opportunities and deepen our connection with the greater Sacramento community.

The Power of 1,000 Hornets is a crowdfunding campaign to raise more than $1 million from 1,000 dedicated Hornets to support an Event Center at Sacramento State. 1,000 Hornet alumni, fans, and friends each pledge to give $1,140 as seed funding for the Event Center. Gifts can be made outright or contributed monthly for 12 months.

In the event the funds raised through this campaign are not required for the facility, the gifts will be redirected to enrich Athletics facilities and programs.

16

HERITAGE CLUB The Heritage Club is an arm of the Hornet Club that provides donors the opportunity to invest in the long-term future of Sacramento State Athletics by establishing an endowment. Maintaining a top Division I athletics program requires sustained resources that can be relied upon in perpetuity. Endowments allow us to invest your gift of $10,000 or more to generate growth of principal and an increasing payout stream to ensure endless funding. When you establish an endowment,

Unisuit - $80 Cox Box - $60 Speed Coach - $275 8-man Racing Shell - $38,000 Oar - $350 each (x8 = $2,800 Total) Boat Shoes - $60 each (x8 = $480 Total)

the funds are invested, and the interest generated goes to the program of your choice while the principal remains intact.    Scholarships are the most common use of endowment funds, but they also can be created for program support. You may name the endowment in honor of an individual, family or group. Endowed scholarships are especially valuable because they provide a perpetual source of scholarship income for our Hornet student-athletes.

17

STUDENT-ATHLETE RESOURCE CENTER The Student-Athlete Resource Center (SARC) integrates Athletic Academic Services, Life Skills and Student-Athlete Development Services, and NCAA Compliance and Financial Services to help NCAA Division I student-athletes at Sacramento State succeed in:

Achieving their academic goals Persisting toward graduation Developing as independent and successful young adults Meeting NCAA eligibility requirements The primary goal of the SARC is to help Hornet studentathletes meet the challenges they encounter while striving for success in academics and athletics. The SARC also focuses on the comprehensive development of the studentathlete and on preparing them for the challenges of life beyond the playing field. In working to accomplish these aims, the SARC staff places student welfare and the development of the whole student as a top priority.
