Wardrobe Basics
Tops
Tops must be a McCarthy shirt or an HDCH spirit sweatshirt.
McCarthy shirt options include:
• long or short sleeved golf shirt
• white blouse
• sweater vest
• pull-over sweater
• zip up sweater
• navy and burgundy rugby shirt (this item is part of our wardrobe, but it is no longer available for purchase from McCarthy)
Spirit Wear options (sold by McCarthys twice annually, limited supply):
• Hoodie with HDCH logo
Bottoms
Bottoms may be purchased from McCarthy or another store, provided they meet the colour, style and fabric specifications of our policy.
Long Pant Options:
• Style: Flat front, pleated, straight-legged or elasticized pants (no sweat pants)
• Material: cotton, cotton blend, athletic nylon
• Colour: khaki (beige/tan) or navy only
• no large brand logos or messaging may appear on pants
Options for Shorts:
• Same styling, material, and colour as above
• Mid-length or longer. No “short” shorts
• Athletic “soccer” shorts are not considered appropriate for school uniform use
Accessories & Footwear
To enhance your personal style you are welcome to include jewelry, socks, belts, and hair ornaments, provided they do not detract from, cover up, or change the uniform style and fit. Students are welcome to wear footwear of their choice, again noting our desire for students to look neat and feel comfortable.
Hats are not part of our uniform and may not be worn in the building during the school day.

Resale
If you have McCarthy’s items you’d like to sell, email the office to find out about upcoming uniform sale opportunities: info@hdch.org, or call the school at 905.648.6655.
There is also a Wardrobe Buy/Sell/Trade group on edsby; a space for the HD community to exchange wardrobe items. HDCH does not manage or become involved in these transactions.
Special Dress Days
(Dress Down & Spirit Wear Days)
Special dress days take place throughout the year. Students Council selects dates and communicates with students well in advance.
Dress Down Day Regulations
• Any messages, brands or images on your clothes or skin need to be appropriate for a Christian learning community (ie: no offensive slogans, messages, signs or symbols; no promotion of drugs or alcohol, hate, violence, or promiscuity)
• Any rips or tears in clothing must not reveal underwear.
• Shorts must be mid-length or longer (must have a visible “leg”) – no “short” shorts.
• Tops must have a sleeve and an appropriate neckline and must come down to the waistband of the pant (cover the midriff).
• Hats may not be worn in the building unless they are part of a special themed dress day.
• Pajamas are not appropriate for school unless they are worn for a special themed dress day.
Physical Education Classes
Students are not required to wear a specific uniform to phys ed class. Students are asked to bring athletic wear, including non-skid athletic footwear that is dry and clean without any debris to wear in class. Teachers will provide guidelines if needed.
