Joan Cosby, Bio Joan Cosby ’75 (Westerhof), an HDCH alumni and a recognized financial educator, consultant, and Certified Financial Planner, specializing in estate and charitable tax planning. Joan has been regularly featured as a guest lecturer at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario speaking to graduate students on charitable giving. Hundreds of participants have heard Joan’s message. Joan’s presentations expand on the strategies she has developed to take full advantage of the tax incentives our government has created to encourage charitable giving. The expertise that Joan offers in her presentations to entrepreneurs, professionals, and retirees has already redirected more than $7 million of their social capital … also known as taxes. Prior to becoming a financial advisor Joan had a twenty-plus year history working in the nonprofit sector, and this unique frontline experience gives her insight into the impact of charitable giving. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of Nelson Youth Centres and serves on the executive for the Niagara Golden Horseshoe chapter of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. Joan enjoys condo-living in the ever-evolving downtown core of Hamilton.
