Reform Theatre present John Godber’s iconic Bouncers, and inventive company Lunabug offers Pigeon, its tale of winged World War I courage to delight children and adults alike. Cult band The Smiths take centre stage in Half A Person, Alex Broun’s smart tale of obsession and love, and associate artists Square Peg debut with noir thriller The Man Who Woke Up Dead. Finally, Harrogate playwright Rachael Halliwell presents Room 253, a drama staged as a radio play exploring the time Agatha Christie holed up at the Swan Hotel for 11 days. HARROGATE THEATRE

Reform Theatre Company & Harrogate Theatre presents

Bouncers Written by John Godber Directed by Keith Hukin

HARROGATE THEATRE

Northern Broadsides presents

She Stoops To Conquer Written by Oliver Goldsmith Directed by Conrad Nelson

“We four will try to illustrate The sort of things that happen late At night in every town When the pubs are shut And the beer’s been downed…”

It’s the 18th century.

Under the watchful eye of the ever-present bouncers, a gaggle of gorgeous girls, a smooth talking DJ, a group of likely lads and a whole host of other unforgettable and colourful characters collide with outrageous results. Lifting the lid on the Friday night experience, four actors portray numerous roles to create a poignant and hysterical send-up of the nightclub scene. Renowned and beloved writer John Godber’s most iconic play, Bouncers is now one of the most performed plays of all time and has garnered an Olivier nomination as well as being voted into the National Theatre’s top 100 plays of the 20th century. Don’t miss this comedy masterpiece from the alwaysimpressive Reform Theatre.

“Sly, wry and understated”

Kate Hardcastle is a young lady fixed up to meet the eligible Marlow with a view to marriage. Marlow is a young gent who is tongue-tied with the upper classes and downright lecherous with commoners. When Marlow is tricked into believing Kate’s ancestral home is a country inn and mistakes Kate for a lowly barmaid, what could possible go wrong? Plenty. Set against the increasingly chaotic proceedings of one very long night, She Stoops To Conquer is a delightful romantic romp filled with ludicrous misunderstanding, mischief and mayhem. Northern Broadsides’ (A Government Inspector, The Grand Gesture) talented cast of actor-musicians bring their unique charisma, theatrical magic and innate sense of fun to this flamboyant period comedy. Come prepared for merriment, warmth, wit and wigs. Big wigs. Very big wigs.

“Very funny”

It is both a comedy and a drama and has three separate episodes in total, all of which are multi-award winning and can be seen as standalone shows in any order. Heavily inspired by film noir, Bane uses physical performance, shape-shifting from character to character as the story unfurls to conjure the setting. This multicharacter switching creates a filmic tapestry on stage that is funny, engaging and at times moving. There are more than 40 characters per show, all performed by one man and accompanied by a stunning live guitar soundtrack by one musician.

FRI 6 - SAT 15 MAR Harrogate Theatre presents

Edith in the Dark

Written by Philip Meeks Inspired by E Nesbit’s Tale of Terror

“Highly original and well conceived” The Guardian

“Philip Meeks is rapidly becoming one of the most distinctive, perceptive, intelligent voices in the northern theatre scene” York Press

Celebrated children’s author Edith Nesbit escapes her annual Christmas Eve soiree and finds herself in her attic writing room with a young male guest and Biddy Thricefold, her loyal housekeeper. The trio decides to observe the festive tradition of reading scary stories to help ward off wicked spirits, choosing the stories penned by Nesbit herself. Yet even as they breathe life into these terrifying creations, all is not as it seems - one of the people in the attic is hiding a deadly secret. Millions have grown up with the fabled work of E Nesbit, which includes classic novels Five Children and It and The Railway Children, but she began her writing career as a mistress of horror. These flesh-creeping yarns have been freely adapted for the stage to great critical acclaim. Meeks, who last year bagged a Fringe First Award for his play Kiss Me Honey, Honey and enjoyed great reviews for his look at Margaret Rutherford and Agatha Christie in Murder, Marple and Me, brings B-movie style to Nesbit’s resolutely domestic terror shorts.
