Haunt

This is a play for anyone who ever left home and came back to find everything changed. And for anyone who never went away in the first place.

A child with polio…an actress…a dragon…a pregnant girl in the swinging sixties…the Empress Consort of Russia…a spurned lover. Ghosts of a town, past and present.

Attempting to find common ground, Simon, Sean and Aidan head out for a booze-fuelled night. But before long they’re arguing. What is it about the memory of a childhood trip to Whitby that sets them off?

Join us on a ghost walk with a difference, to hear and see the stories that haunt Harrogate – some familiar, some untold - like the sulphur and chalybeate that run in waters beneath the streets.

Darts, Pints and fists fly across the room, as past and present collide with dizzying consequences. Joining the characters in the pub, the audience is thrust into the heart of one family’s search for truth. Development supported by Live Theatre, Northern Stage, Gift and the Kevin Spacey Foundation. ‘You can sense the buzz developing from Petrification…’ British Theatre Guide.

Haunt has been developed working with writers who have experienced homelessness in Harrogate. Based on words from the Haunt anthology and material shown in the Royal Pump Rooms as part of Harrogate Stories, Haunt is a guided journey arriving at a place where images, music, words and performance ask: Who are the haunted? Who are the ghosts? Supported by The Scurrah Wainwright Charity, Two Ridings Community Foundation Arts for Change Fund and Harrogate BC Museums & Galleries. The meeting point is a mystery location – you will be contacted with details prior to the show.
