sierra leone’s

refugee all stars A FREE showing of the Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars documentary will be on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. Ruben Koroma and his wife Grace left Sierra Leone in 1997 during the Sierra Leone Civil War and found themselves in the Kalia refugee camp. They joined up with guitarist Francis John Langba (aka Franco), bassist Idrissa Bangura (aka Mallam) and other musicians in the camp whom they had known before the war. In 2002, the war in Sierra Leone came to an end, and the musicians returned to Freetown, where they met other returning musicians who joined them. From there, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars began. Their message – “Music can heal the trauma of man. Don’t lose hope. Music can cure you.” This engagement of Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars is funded through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Every song is fresh. Every scene is new. Every night is different. Broadway’s Next H!T Musical is a theatrical awards show… with a twist! Master improvisers gather made-up song suggestions from the audience and create a spontaneous evening of music, humor and laughter. The audience votes for its favorite song and watches as the cast turns it into a full-blown improvised musical – complete with memorable characters, witty dialogue and plot twists galore.

The New York Times calls Broadway’s Next H!T Musical “Hilarious!” Time Out NY says, “At last! A musical of, for and by the people.”

Live at Rose Lehrman is “More Than a Show! Our series proudly provides a wide variety of added programs as a part of most artists’ engagements. While our performers are here, we do all that we can to connect them to our community. Throughout the season, we offer workshops, pre-show and post-show lectures, meet and greet the artist events, talkbacks from the stage and more. We often take professional performers into schools and community centers to interact with students and participants. Artists love sharing their skills in special hands-on workshops and discussing career goals with students studying the arts. Theatre and dance master classes are regularly offered to students and community members. These artist residencies give participants a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from arts professionals who have achieved success in their fields. Most pre-show and post-show events are offered free to ticket holders as an effort to provide audience enrichment and education.

HACC Theatre 2016-17

At Home at the Zoo

by Edward Albee Directed by Dave Olmsted Dates: Oct. 21 and 22, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. | Oct. 23, 2016, at 2 p.m. Location: Studio Theatre Cost: $15/Adults; $10/Students, Seniors and Military Veterans

“The Past, Present and Future”

“At Home at the Zoo” combines Albee’s classic, “The Zoo Story,” with its prequel, “Home Life” to demonstrate the essential loneliness of humanity, where you’ll meet Peter (a book editor), Ann (his wife) and Jerry (a desperate man Peter meets in the park). The play begins by offering a revealing look at Peter and Ann’s boring marriage and their brutal, failed attempts to communicate about it. The tone changes dramatically when Peter goes out to the park and meets Jerry. Jerry begins to tell Peter tale after tale, each more lurid than the next.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

by Kathryn Schultz Miller Directed by Brenda Eppley Date: Nov. 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. Location: Auditorium Theatre Cost: $10 (All seating)

Based upon Washington Irving’s classic story, Ichabod Crane encounters the Headless Horseman in a spooky production filled with humor and chills.

1984

Adapted by Robert Owens, Wilton E Hall Jr. and William A Miles Jr. From the novel by George Orwell Directed by Dave Olmsted Dates: April 21 and 22, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. | April 23 at 2 p.m. Location: Auditorium Theatre Cost: $15/Adults; $10/Students, Seniors and Military Veterans Set in a world of war, government surveillance and public manipulation, “1984” brings to life a time where individualism and independent thinking were seen as “thought crimes.” Orwell depicts the horrors of man’s fate in a society where “Big Brother” is always watching. The moral to be drawn from the nightmare situation is simple: Don’t let it happen. It depends on you! Please join us for this theatrical event that is powerful and disturbingly provocative.

Tickets for all HACC Theatre productions will go on sale approximately one month prior to the opening night/day performance. Please purchase your tickets online at LiveatRoseLehrman.org or by calling the box office at 717-231-ROSE. Productions listed as of print deadline. Programming is subject to change.
