Тhe 22 of April was the beginning of the Comenius partnership school visit to Bulgaria which lasted until the 26 of April 2013. It was the second time the partnership school teams met. Our school, Secondary school “St. Paisii Hilendarski”, organized a lot of activities for the teachers and students from partner countries which took place in the five days of their stay. The guest were welcomed according to an old Bulgarian custom with bread and salt. During the first day they got acquainted with the school, the Bulgarian educational system and some interesting facts about Bulgaria and Bulgarian history. The students had the chance to attend a lesson in Bulgarian folklore dances and learn some of them. We, as a host, had prepared Bulgarian national dishes. After the lunch both students and teacher from Slovakia and Portugal went sightseeing in Petrich. The Bulgarian night , when everybody danced and sang , will remain unforgettable for all participants in the project. The surprise of the evening were the Slovak and the Portuguese songs performed by Bulgarian students.

Googol (meaning & origin of Google brand ) is the term used for a number 1 followed by 100 zeros which was used first by a nine-year old, Milton Sirotta, in 1940. The name of the popular search engine ‘Google’ came from a misspelling of the word ‘googol’.

Brainstorming - how to make a short movie "Can you imagine life without numbers?"

Week in Bulgaria After 22 hours of travelling we finally came to Parvomay. Our host families were waiting for us and helped us with our baggage. We were unbelievably glad to see our friends again, meet new ones and looking forward to spending another perfect week. My host family was really nice. They gave me everything (and even more) I needed. According to reactions of the other students it was the same or at least similar in all host families. I was surprised of their good will and excitement to take care about us and also get to know us. Every single day was interesting. The first day of the project meeting started in the similar way as the one in Slovakia. They invited us in, offered something to eat and drink etc. The whole school was decorated with the welcoming flags and banners. We did a lot of activities at school during the week such as teambuilding games, learning Bulgarian dances, tasting traditional food, doing workshops, but the most important was that we communicated a lot and thanks to that we´ve created beautiful friendship. Now a little bit about trips. The program Bulgarians prepared was prepared very well and interesting enough. The first trip was to near town – Petrich. We took a walk through the town centre, went to the museum and in the end to the Baba Vanga’s house. After that, we had mutual dinner and party called „Bulgarian evening. “ We had a lot of fun during that evening. Second trip was to the Bulgarian capital – Sofia. There was a museum of the whole Bulgarian history, which we passed through with one great guide. The impression was multiplied with her enthusiasm. After the excursion we went to the city centre where we could see some important churches, buildings and dwellings and also we had some free time. The third trip was to Rozhen monastery and town Melnik. There were some typical Bulgarian buildings from the revival age and wine cellar. The wine smelt great. The fourth trip was to the biggest monastery in Bulgaria – Rila monastery and city Blagoevgrad. Rila monastery looks awesome, it was pity that we couldn´t see more of it because of the ban which didn´t allow us to go upstairs. In Blagoevgrad there is a museum similar to the one we visited in Sofia but this was more focused to the nature and culture. After we had finished the excursion we went to the city centre where we had free time for shopping. In my opinion it was kinda long but never mind. At least we had a time to buy some wearing and stuff. The last trip was to Rupite, where´s Baba Vanga´s grave, her church and beautiful gardens with mineral streams hot about 75°C. The most fun we had in gardens because we were running through the water sprayers because it was really hot outside. We´ve really created friendships for the whole life. There was no moment of being bored or so. We enjoyed our common evenings and doing crazy things. Bulgarian team did really hard work and we appreciate their effort and I can say that everything was great and even over my expectations. I hope I´ll be able to come there again.

Radovan Bunganič, Slovakia

The Comenius project was an amazing experience! The week that we spent in Bulgaria was for sure the most exciting week ever! We met nice people who welcomed us with their hearts and arms wide opened. Bulgarian hospitality pleased us a lot, the way our new friends treated us was wonderful. We felt wonderfully while visiting the host country. The places we visited were beautiful pictures of the Bulgarian culture. The churches, the museums and the monasteries were all so well preserved and interesting to see as they represent a totally different culture to us. It showed us how our new Bulgarian friends are proud of their past and culture. We are very grateful for this unique opportunity. It helped us to improve our English language , and social skills as well as our knowledge of other cultures. Now we know a little of the Bulgarian History, some words in Slovak and Bulgarian language and how it is to live in such a beautiful country as Bulgaria. This project was more than a traveling opportunity. It meant a lot for us. The new friends that we made (Bulgarians and Slovakians) are now in our hearts and the moments spent with them will always stay with us. Workshop - with the aim to prepare a multilingual dictionary of the basic mathematics vocabulary in English and all partners' languages. Evaluation of the project meeting in Bulgaria, discussion of the forthcoming activities. Closing of the project meeting.

Maths is our common language There’re languages umpteen flourishing like spring in green. One from other they’re free but in something they agree. We are not the big experts, to be smart in all these words. There’s something commonly around, numbers are the lovely sound Common language is marvelous everybody breaks into applause. It is known by every each, maths is our common speech. Kamelia Mitreva, Bulgaria

Hello, dear friends from Slovakia and Portugal. This essay is dedicated to your visit in my native country Bulgaria during the complementation of the project “Maths is our common language”. In it I’m going to present the impressions I got from you, and they are certainly very good. st Our mutual adventure started on the 21 of April. I remember the days before that when we excitingly expected to learn who is coming to our families, the difficulty we had finding you on the internet, and the first impressions we got from your profile pictures. I also remember the nervousness if we’ll understand each other, if you will like us and also how different we will be. Time passed and the moment came – we all stood in front of the school, excited and a little nervous and waited for the buses with our new friends to come. I clearly remember how for about 5 minutes we turned heads down the street about 20 times and asked ourselves “Where are they?”, “Have they got lost?”, “When will they arrive?”. Not long after that we saw you in the distance. My first impression was that you are hearty people, making friends easily, and most of all people who liked having fun. And in spite of the long hours of travelling you hugged and greeted us, and this was one wonderful present. Each of us welcomed his kid and took him/her home. I’m sure that all houses were totally cleaned for you to feel like presidents. Thinking of being too different we soon realized how much we resemble each other. We had the same teenage routine – we wanted to go out, to dance, to save every moment with a picture. The very first night we went out all together, but I’m not going to give any details because our teachers will want to join us next time. We learned Slovak, Bulgarian and Portuguese and laughed when we couldn’t pronounce some of the words. We played “Bum” and often got dispelled from the game. We sang at the Bulgarian evening, danced together and time flew. I hope you enjoyed Blagoevgrad, Sofia, the Rila Monastery, Rupite, Petrich and the other places we visited. I hope they impressed you with something and will always remind you of the strong Bulgarian spirit. I would like to think that you liked our school, the teachers, all girls and boys from Parvomay. Don’t forget the crazy nights with us. And I sincerely hope that you got closer with your host families, that you liked the food and remember the first tour around the house and the rare confusing of the rooms. Don’t forget the birthday surprises, the jokes between us, the pleasant conversations and all the moments when we couldn’t remember the words and explained gesticulating, or showing the subject, or just taking you to the place. You are amazing friends. Thanks to you we got a lot of great memories I love you all. You were part of one amazing adventure, I’ll always remember. I hope the tears and the hugs when you left proved that we really like you a lot. I’ll not name each of you separately because you all left trays in my heart. I now realize that not only Maths unites us. We miss you and expect you again in

October. And I hope you liked the presents. See you again!
