them, in storage. As for the Stearman posters, we have the current edition available. However, for past editions, you may need to contact Diane Stickle for availability. In July, I wrote about the artist responsible for the Stearman Fly-In posters each year. It struck me as a pleasant coincidence that Frank Schaufler from Hilton, N. Y. was very similar to our very own Ron Hatch of Knoxville. Both men are avid about their machines. For Frank it’s aviation; for Ron it’s trains. Ron has been creating Railroad Days posters since the beginning. Frank has been creating Stearman Fly-In posters since the beginning as well. Both men have an attention to detail that is unrivaled.

Anyone interested in posters of either Railroad Days or the Stearman Fly-In can find them at the Welcome Center for $10.00. As a matter of fact, we have a lot of past Railroad Days posters available, totes filled with

As I write this addition for the Chamber News Letter, I am still uncertain of the funding level that will be available from the State of Illinois. We are supported by a Local Tourism and Convention Bureau (LTCB) grant through the Illinois Office of Tourism in the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). In Fiscal Year 2105 (FY15), we received a grant for about $62,000. That was up about 7% from FY14. Fiscal Years run from July 1-June 30 each year. In a routine year, we would already know what our grant award would be. Since there is no budget for the State, we have not yet been informed about our award. The last I heard we would most likely receive around $52,000. That was our funding level from FY13. What is most frustrating about the funding process for tourism in FY16 is the fact that tourism numbers and revenue for Illinois have been growing. From FY11 to FY14, Illinois enjoyed record breaking numbers of visitors. In FY14 nearly 110 million visitors chose Illinois which includes 2 million International visitors. There was more than $2.7 billion in State and Local Tax Revenues from Tourism in FY14. This translated into about $1,300 in tax savings per household in

Illinois. Nationally, we were 9th overall in domestic visitors; we were 5th overall in traveler spending and 8th overall in overseas visitors. That sounds like a job well done by all. These numbers come to us from D. K. Shifflet & Assoc., the U. S. Travel Association, U. S. Dept. of Commerce and the Illinois Dept. of Revenue. In Knox County, we saw nearly $74 million spent by domestic travelers. That reflects a 6.9% increase in spending over FY13. All indications are for more growth in FY15. Those numbers are still being calculated. Our top visitors to Illinois were from Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and Missouri. Residents in Illinois also comprised part of the big numbers by staying within the state for vacations in FY14. Our top five international markets to visit Illinois were Canada, Mexico, People’s Republic of China, United Kingdom & Germany.
