Baking Wedding Cakes is a family affair for Beverly Harrell. From the time she was a small child in Jonesville NC she remembers spending lots of time in the kitchen with her mom and grandma learning to bake. When Beverly’ s grandmother passed away, she inherited all her cake pans and recipes, these are the pans she used to bake of her daughter’ wedding cakes. Beverly takes comfort knowing how pleased her grandma would be to see the cakes she makes. When baking wedding cakes, you must have a lot of patience and plenty of time to do it. You cannot rush and you must keep your air turned low in your house or the cakes melt. Beverly learned quickly when she was asked to bake her first wedding cake for her daughter Kayla’s wedding. “Lots of prayers went up to grandma for that cake “But once I got started, it all fell into place and everyone loved the sunflowers that covered one side and it tasted delicious. A short 14 months later, Beverly’ daughter Heather was getting married, this time Beverly was more confident in her baking abilities but before she could make Heathers cake, she found herself having to overcome some health issues. Despite having breast cancer 15 years ago, she was now being diagnosed with lung Cancer. This year she went through chemo from January till March, and on April 30th, the day before Beverly’s 57th birthday, she underwent surgery to remove the cancer. She spent the next 5 days alone in the hospital due to the Corona virus, but Beverly said “ I made it. I knew I had to; I had a wedding cake to make.” Baking Wedding cakes is a hobby for Beverly that she is so thankful to still be able to do. The amount of love and time she puts into each of her cakes is apparent. When you’re baking, you need to realize that sometimes it’s not going to work out like you wanted and you will have to start over. The biggest lesson she learned that she could share with other beginners is to slow down, give yourself plenty of extra time to get it done. Beverly has already had requests from others for her to make their Wedding cakes. She hopes to continue baking them for along time.

Veil or No Veil? While wearing a veil is not required, traditionally this accessory dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times. 86 years, 290 days The Guinness World Record for longest living American couple belongs to North Carolinians Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher. They were married for 86 years, 290 days as of February 27, 2011 when Herbert died at the age of 105. Note what Ralph said about his wife. “The key to our longevity is our healthy living and agreeable nature.� "If we had anything, a real problem, I agreed to it. That's the best way to get out of that," Ralph says. Neither of them have ever drank alcohol or smoked, and they spent a lifetime loving the passions of the other. "Dorothy loves ballroom dancing and I loved to shoot clay targets," Ralph said. "I joined her with ballroom dancing and she joined me with trap shooting." Dorothy proved quite good at trap shooting too. She became the National Trap Shooting Champion in 1952.
