THIS YEAR IS ABOUT GROWING ROOTS As a vivid design company in the commercial fast moving consumer world within our niche of kids interior, we constantly need to remind ourselves of Fabelab’s roots and our initial vision for Fabelab. I am Michaela, the founder of Fabelab, mother of 2 wonderful girls, passionate about creativity and imagination and here is what I believe in. As an architect, I believe in the creative design process and a holistic approach to design. To me, beauty lies in the combination and understanding of form and function and the composition of shapes, colours and texture. As a scenographer, I believe in storytelling and developing products, collections and colour schemes with inspirational stories in mind, letting our minds wander off to imaginative worlds. As a mom, I believe in kids’ imagination and creativity and their ability to see their world with wonder and curiosity. As a human being, I believe in caring for our environment. Sustainability and good quality are key in all of our designs. Sustainable design also means expanding the life of a product, offering designs that can grow with the family, gathering stories and memories along the way. In 2018, my love of creating and crafting led to our new line MiniMakers. MiniMakers is Fabelab’s platform for creativity, providing DIY ideas and craft kits for kids and the whole family. The Fabelab Magazine is a dream coming true, to create a platform to communicate our thoughts, our process and the stories we work with. 2019 is a step towards refining our roots and sticking to what we believe in.
· The organic Rope Purse will be my girls’ favourite and is a product that I can see them wearing over a long period of time. · The little Puffin Tumbler is a great example of how we translate the beauty and endless inspiration that we find in nature. It has the potential to turn into a real classic.

A B O U T / NEW SEASON DESIGN PROCESS Our design process has always been a playful practice. It’s in our DNA as the fabulation laboratory to combine as well as challenge form, function, colours and themes. We passionately design and produce our products to encourage imagination and creativity throughout a child’s life by providing lasting products that grow with the child. It is these core values that inspired our title “Growing Roots”. We are rooting ourselves as a sustainable and imaginative brand focusing on drawing our inspiration from the natural world around us, and the magic it brings to a child’s eye. Growing Roots symbolizes our holistic approach to our collections. Changing course from the fast fashion world with seasons in and out, we want to instead encourage the mixing between seasons and collections to create fresh twists, stories and colour themes that hold for years to come. THIS SEASON’S STORY This year we follow the nature tales we have been sharing as we walk along the coast and find new friends, new landscapes and new games to play. We enjoy the soft graze of the beachgrass as it blows in the wind. We look out to the sea and wave to a little mermaid perched on a rock. Taking a break from the sun, we find a spot to lay our blanket and share a picnic with the friendly fox. Then, after a busy day of exploring, we rest our eyes and dream away to magical lands with our Darling Unicorn Buddy.

THE SHIP BLANKET We are excited to introduce the new design of our popular Ship Blanket, a blanket for children to dream away on a journey or take their toys on an adventure. The secret behind the design of our “PLAY-FOLD” products is hidden within the patchwork pattern that functions as folding lines and transforms the quilted blanket into a play-fold-product. The very first product by Fabelab was the elegant and innovative Bird Blanket which embraces this same DNA. By transforming from one function into another, the play-fold-blankets follow your child’s development. In the first months, it functions as a cuddly nest in the pram and crib. Later on, it will become your child’s play mat. As they grow, it becomes an inspiring toy for small explorers. During these first few years, the blanket stimulates the child’s needs for comfort, imagination, creativity and mobility. This comfortable, quilted patchwork blanket in beautiful new colours is inspired by the ocean, the coast, sailboats, the wanderlust for new places as well as a compass to guide you home again.

S E A H O R S E R AT T L E
“Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as crystal...”, lives the Little Mermaid, the well-loved fairy tale creature of Danish poet and author H.C. Andersen. Today the little mermaid is still sitting on her rock in the harbour of our beautiful city Copenhagen. Sitting in the moonlight watching ships sailing by, dreaming her own little dream… Let this pretty mermaid be your little one’s first doll and let her stay as a beloved friend growing up. Together these two can create hundreds of new fairy tales, and loving memories.
A Seahorse takes comfort in staying home. You may find them holding onto a piece of coral reef for days at a time before venturing off again, making it the best buddy to your little one when they need comfort in the familiar. This playful Seahorse Rattle has a sweet appearance and is super cuddly. The sparkly horn and curly tail are perfect for little fingers to grasp. It speaks through the soft rattle sound and swims with two delicate fins with crinkle paper inside to keep your little one entertained.
WITTY WHALE Little Witty Whale loves to play with his friends in the ocean. He sings and tumbles around the great big sea. Even though he is much bigger than the rest of the coastal team, they all love him and enjoy his funny and playful approach to life. This soft animal cushion can accompany your little one on his journey of discovery and will make sure to be a cheerful companion through stormy seas. Use him as a cushion in bed or in a cosy, playful corner.
O C TO P U S R AT T L E The arms of our loveable Octopus Rattle are the perfect newborn essential, as they mimic the umbilical cord in the womb. This creates a familiar experience for your little one during their first encounters with toys. The Octopus Rattle has 8 long arms with crinkle paper for the child to grasp and play with. Inside the big belly it has a small bell with the cutest little sound to keep your baby giggling.

All materials are organic, CE tested and therefore completely safe for your baby to put into their mouth and play with as babies do, which goes for all Fabelab products.

THE PUFFIN TUMBLER Say hello to our sweet little Puffin Tumbler, all dressed up in it’s colourful suit. The puffin is known for its big triangular orange beak, large head and short little legs. A clumsy but lovable little sweetheart. Due to the shape, the Fabelab puffin is made as a tumbler with tinkle bells inside. Little ones will have a fun time trying to tip him over as he stands up again and again. It’s the perfect way to practice those fine motor skills. Make him a part of the ocean fantasy world together with the mermaid, seahorse, whale and the octopus. 11
ANIMAL STORYTELLING We love to tell stories, and each of our iconic animal characters is designed with its own personality, originating from a mood or childhood memory. Every child is unique and has it’s own strengths. Darling Unicorn, Gentle Bear and Quirky Bunny all are here to support and comfort our little ones. Many of the colours and patterns in the Fabelab collections are inspired by one of our original animal characters, implying their personality through small touches. To be wrapped in an ochre or honey blanket feels like getting a big warm bear hug. The foggy blue pattern, inspired by soft fur, reminds us of a cat who is a cuddly, yet an independent individual. The bunny pattern features our bunny’s signature bow, a symbol of her quirky character who loves to express herself. Follow us into their universe.

Everybody loves unicorns and we at Fabelab are no exception! Darling Unicorn is a shy creature who makes her home in the clouds. Although quiet, she adores going on adventures and is as curious as they come. At Fabelab, these dreamy fairyland creatures and the world around them is in the purest organic unbleached cotton, adding warmth, softness and a light magical feel to the baby’s surroundings. Touches of rainbows and soothing colours create a whimsical and playful mood.

KIDS ROOM We love to make the space in a kidsroom usable and fun for children’s imagination. Creating designated areas in a kid’s room is helping the child to concentrate on one activity at a time and to be able to organize toys, blankets and other things more easily and efficiently.

GOOD NIGHT ZONE
Quiet zone As a soft cosy corner for your little one, a quiet-zone is all about relaxing, cuddling, chatting, dreaming and reading. This area can be combined with a child’s bed. Keep it simple and free of too many sensory toys and stick to comfort toys instead. A little bed pocket can hold their favourite book and toys within reach, but keep the bed clean for sleeping. Soft bedding in calm colours and a few cushions add to the hygge atmosphere. This is a great place for your little one to calm down after a long day and it offers a safe retreat when alone time is needed.

Tell me a story The night sky shimmers like a velvety blanket and in its cosy folds the first stars sleepily blink their eyes open. For them night is the time to shine and the darker it gets the livelier they start to twinkle. The little unicorn looks out the window at those twinkling stars and yawns. Creativity is a key component of health and happiness and a core skill to practice with kids. MINI·MAKERS Our new line MiniMakers nurtures a child’s creativity and helps them develop important creative skills. Crafting with your hands presents an opportunity to learn fine-motor skills, critical thinking, creativity and empathy. Some of these skills we cannot achieve from our increasingly digital world. This is why our MiniMaker platform is so important to us. Within this universe, you can find do-it-yourself craft kits, online tutorials and printables as well as workshops at our studio in Copenhagen. We have created crafts for the one just learning to sew and for the one who can’t get enough, for the little one that loves putting the pieces together, and the one that prefers playing with the pieces. No matter your MiniMaker style, there is something for everyone. So let’s jump in, get messy, and find what our crafts have in store!

S U S TA I N A B I L I T Y THE JOURNEY TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY The journey to a sustainable practice is no easy feat. For Fabelab sustainable design is about using the right materials, proper treatment of workers as well as the lifespan of the product, which is why we produce multi-functional products that grow with the child through manufacturers we respect. The base of our products is always 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and we try to fill our products with organic cotton wherever possible but of course the washing and longevity of our products matter. This year we are excited to share that our small buddies and soft rattles are filled with corn fibre. This material is the most well rounded natural option for washing and retaining the shape and life of the product. BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL OF THE FABRIC AND PACKAGING WASTE? With plastic waste of top concern in our industry, we have made the switch to biodegradable bags to protect our products. Using the scraps of our products in the production of garlands, small rattles and our new MiniMaker kits also brings us one step closer to our waste reduction goals. In addition, we feature many new DIY crafts on our website where children can use their Fabelab packaging to create a small fairy house or a weaving.

Combining our passion for sustainability and creativity, our MiniMakers Wallhanging Craft kit is made from production off-cuts.
I will stay in shape if you only wash me gently with a wet cloth
General Wash Care: For the best, long-lasting results we recommend washing our products at 30 degrees. In some cases, minimal shrinking will occur.
Music Mobiles: (Animal Music Mobiles) We recommend that these products are wiped with a wet cloth, not washed or soaked to keep the music boxes inside working well and in tune.
Corn Fibre Filling: (Buddies, Soft rattles) We are very excited about our new corn fibre filling! This can be washed and dried in your machine. Corn fibre is a great natural alternative to polyester filling.
Maple Wooden Rings: (Teethers) We only use natural and strong maple wood with no chemical treatments. Never soak or submerge the wood in water completely. It has natural self-cleaning elements, so a good wipe with a damp cloth is ok. To get a longer life from the product, we recommend adding a drop of oil or rubbing with natural beeswax to further protect the surface and prevent splinters.
Organic Cotton Filling: (Small toys, Wands, Decorations) We love to use organic cotton wherever possible. Typically it is best to wipe with a wet cloth for organic cotton filled products to avoid any clumping after washing. Recycled Polyester Filling: (Blankets, Storage Bags, Cushions) We often use recycled polyester filling in our products that require a heavy washing schedule. This way you get the longest life out of our product while keeping things clean and fresh.
