Cover Story... Amber: I️ began attending Family Community Church in January, 2012. I️ was desiring a new journey with God but was hesitant about going to a large church. I️ thought it would be difficult to get connected. I️ couldn’t have been more wrong. For 2 months, I️ came each week by myself and sat in the back row. People were friendly and inviting and I️ loved the worship and message each week. I️ met Pastor Bill after church one Sunday, and after talking with him, he introduced me to the Young Adults Pastor at the time; from there my community blossomed. I️ started going to the Young Adults Group on Tuesday nights and quickly made new friends. I️ felt a sense of belonging. Though I️ felt unworthy at the time, I️ began volunteering with the Youth on Thursday evenings. In that, I️ was able to experience a winter camp and attend my first missions trip. These were life altering experiences for me. One year later, on January 13, 2013, I️ rededicated my life to Christ and got baptized. I️ was surrounded by pastors, friends and family. October of that same year, I️ was asked to share my story of God’s grace and faithfulness on a Sunday morning, from the main stage. Though I️ was extremely nervous, I️ knew I️ had to share because it wasn’t about me. I️ was coming up on 1 year of sobriety from alcohol and God used FCC to love and support me. I️ was pointed to Jesus, and had come to know my worth and value found in Him alone. I️ am now 5 years sober. I️ completed a 12-step through Celebrate Recovery here at FCC. I️ was able to open up and listen to others, as we all found hope and healing in a safe place. Spirit Newspaper • Winter 2017-18 • 2

Christian Education @ 7:00-8:30 PM My heart for anyone reading this is, if you don’t know Jesus or don’t belong to a church, I️ invite you to come to my church. I️ say “my church” because it feels like home to me. All are welcome, so come as you are. God loves you and has a plan and a purpose for your life. If you see me around FCC, (being 6’4” you can’t miss me) please introduce yourself. I️ look forward to meeting you.

Family Community Church has shown me what it means to be a part of God’s family. I️ am forever thankful for all the meaningful and priceless relationships I️ have gained. James: My journey began with an invitation. I was at the gym and someone, who at the time was a casual acquaintance, felt it in her heart to invite me to Encounter… the Young Adults Group at Family Community Church. That person happened to be Amber. Little did I know that this one, simple invite would make such a huge difference in my life. My experience at Encounter started with the people. People who were welcoming, deliberate, and diverse in their journey. The connections I had been longing for have been fulfilled through this house of God. I remind myself, that there are people like me, who need an invitation. One invitation could change someone’s world. I am a testament to that. I am thankful for the growth that has taken place in my faith since someone chose to walk across the room and extend an invite. God knew what I needed. I look around me now and I am surrounded by the best community to run this journey with. I don’t want people to miss out. I want people to know that all are invited to know Jesus and be a part of His family.

At Family Community Church, our Ground Forces men’s ministry has a goal to see men mobilized for God. We want to build Christcentered men who love God, live out transformed lives, and serve and impact the world around them. We’ve been able to celebrate God doing amazing things through the men of FCC over the last year. Some highlights include: • Our Ground Forces team did free oil and filter changes for over 40 seniors, single moms, and single women in college at our annual Oil Change event this year! A huge thanks to all our hard working mechanics and volunteers. • We kicked off our quarterly Men’s Breakfasts and are excited to see friendships being formed, guys praying and worshiping together and, of course, all the delicious food… • We started our “First Sundays at the Cross” where we meet for prayer before the first service on the first Sunday of the month. It’s been powerful to see men arriving early, praying for our families and our house, and leading by example. If you’re looking for ways to connect with other guys at FCC, learn about tools and resources to further your personal growth in God, or hang out and eat some good food (of which we do a lot), then come out to our next Ground Forces event or join a men’s Connect Group. Whether you’re a 49er fan, a Raider fan, or a fan of something else entirely, we want you guys to come be a part of Ground Forces! Stay up to date at familycommunity.church/men or email men@familycommunity.church for more information.

Encounter Young Adults (ages 20s & 30s) Sundays @ 5:00 PM and Tuesdays @ 7:00 PM In FCC’s Stage3 Auditorium

Jr. High & High School Ministries MOVE GROUPS (small groups), Sundays @ 10:45 AM Midweek Service, Thursdays @ 7:00 PM

Family Community Church’s young adult ministry Encounter is a vibrant place where you can come as you are and not as you should be. Halfway through their 4th year, leaders of this house are adamant about life-change stemming from a love that can only be given from the one, true living God. After recently jumping to two services, Encounter heads into uncharted territory and would want nothing more than for you to come out and experience the presence of Jesus in a new way. Encounter is now seeing over 600+ young adults coming to hear the Word of God. So come alone or grab a friend and come join us for some fellowship, awesome worship, and a compelling sermon. See you there!

Here at Family Community Church, God is doing a new and exciting thing in our youth ministry. On November 2nd, we launched our new name as a youth ministry, “MVMENT YOUTH”. This is a place where middle school and high school students (7th12th grade) can experience the presence of God, own their faith, grow in strong community with others, and be empowered to change their city. MVMENT YOUTH exists to draw students closer to Jesus and believe that the next generation is going somewhere. MVMENT YOUTH is led by our Youth Pastors, Jordan & Marissa Nordlum. They are a passionate young couple that believe in the next generation and what God has in store for the future youth of FCC. They have led in both youth and young adult ministries across the country and we were excited to welcome them both to our staff this past Fall 2017. MVMENT YOUTH has service every Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Stage3 Auditorium & MOVE GROUPS every Sunday at 10:45 AM in FCC’s Main Auditorium. We’d love for you to come be a part of what God is doing here at MVMENT YOUTH.

Children’s Ministries Toddlers through Grade 4

Sundays 9:00 & 10:45 AM Our Children’s Ministry (toddlers to 4th grade), is a safe place where your children will have fun as they build a solid faith foundation. We offer classes that are age specific, exciting and God centered. To ensure we have a safe and secure environment for each child, all volunteers and leaders are carefully screened and supervised. That along with our stringent security check-in process for all kids, FCC provides parents the assurance that their child is being well-cared for during services. Once the children are in their class, each of our classrooms are equipped with age specific games, toys and activities. We believe church should be enjoyable for our children, so we make sure they are all having fun as soon as they walk into their classroom. Sunday classes consist of a time of worship, an engaging Bible lesson, creative arts and time for children to play together and get to know one another as they connect with God and other students and leaders. The only challenging part for parents can be getting your child to want to leave! Spirit Newspaper • Winter 2017-18 • 4

AREA 56 5th & 6th Grade

Sundays @ 10:45 AM AREA56 is THE PLACE for fifth and sixth graders. Designed specifically for preteens, our service usually kicks off with a crazy, exciting game for everyone to participate in, followed by live, student led WORSHIP and an engaging message to DISCOVER what the Word of God has to say to their lives. We also have small group time where each student can CONNECT with one another and build relationships with their peers which gives them a chance to GROW, as they can get their questions answered and share their thoughts.

FCC Encounter’ Young Adults catalytic event “The Reintroduction” was our first catalytic event hosted remotely from the church campus. We had the opportunity to hold it outside, in the middle of our community. The mission to bring “church” to the downtown Morgan Hill community was overwhelmingly successful, fun, and purpose driven. A variety of creative elements (Speakers, music, and creative arts) collaborated together to present the gospel of Jesus Christ in a interesting and relevant way. Over 200 people were reached at the Connect Counter, which was purposefully planned to connect community members to Family Community Church. Our Salvation Team reached over 70 people who made life changing decisions to start a new life with Christ. Almost 2000 people attended the event and were greatly impacted by the various elements of creativity throughout the night. The Reintroduction was all-in-all a very exciting event, and the best is yet to come!

PUMPKIN PALOOZA Zorb balls. Wizard Of Oz inspired corn maze. Tire flips. Dunk tanks. Live music. Food trucks. Pumpkin pie.... These are just a few of the many things at Pumpkin Palooza 2017. Over 4,000 people came dressed up in their best costumes, and we saw everything from superhero families to blow up dinosaurs. The possibilities were endless at this year’s event, and fun was truly had by all. It all could not have happened without the 350+ volunteers and the wonderful donation of 200 bails of hay. Kids and adults alike also enjoyed exploring San Jose Fire Department’s Shark Truck! What a blessing this night was, and we are already excited for next year. Thank you to everybody who played a part. This event could not have happened without you! And, if you missed coming this year, mark your calendars now for October 27, 2018!

At Family Community Church, we believe it is important for our members to live in community with one another. As the scripture that our church was founded on states in Psalm 68:6, “God sets lonely people in families.” We want to make big church small, so that nobody stands alone! That’s where our CONNECT GROUPS come in. CONNECT GROUPS are small groups that meet together regularly. They are a place where people can find friendship, be mentored in their faith, understand and discuss the truth of God’s Word, identify and use their spiritual gifts, and provide care for one another. They are united around common interests, a local neighborhood, a particular life stage or an activity. Some of our groups meet in a leader’s home, others at the church or even at a coffee shop. There is a group for everyone and we have made it easy for you to find the perfect fit for you and your family. Visit our website at familycommunity.church/ministries and get CONNECTED today!
