Apple’s Mac operating system will have easier ways to share and search, while the iOS software for iPhones and iPads is getting new features for controlling home devices. The free updates will come this fall and were announced Monday at Apple’s developers conference in San Francisco. (Fun fact: The next Mac system will be called Yosemite.) Here are some highlights for the iPhone and iPad: The new software will sport interactive notifications, so you can respond to a message without having to leave another app. IOS 8 will have a built-in healthmanagement tool to help people track their vital signs, diet and sleeping habits. A new Handoff feature will let you switch devices more easily, so you can start writing an email on a phone and finish on a Mac. (AP)

Country Road to Riches: West Virginia lottery players are on a roll this year, with nine Powerball tickets worth at least $1 million sold in the state, making it No. 1 in winning tickets per capita. (It averages one Powerball ticket worth $1 million for every 200,000 of its 1.8 million residents.) Susan Dennis, who was part of a group that won $1 million in February, says the tickets she buys outside the state always seem to come up empty. “I think I just better stick with West Virginia,” she said.
