February is Black History Month Photography Exhibit Hopewell “A Dream Deferred: Visions Of Change And Renewal.” Prince George “Sweet Home Virginia: Visions Of Change And Renewal.” Both on display February 1 through February 27. Sharon Heyward is drawn to “crumbling brick walls, abandoned houses, decaying doors and buildings” she sees in her daily life. Through her photographs she reveals the beauty of places that still stand despite the decay, and refuse to be forgotten. She connects the adversity and perseverance these buildings reveal to that of her own experience as an African American growing up in Newark, NJ. Ms. Heyward currently resides in Hopewell.

Burrowsville: Frederick Douglass February 18, 7 p.m. The Hopewell/Prince George Friends of the Library in collaboration with the Friends of Burrowsville School present “An Evening with Frederick Douglass” on Thursday, February 18, at 7 p.m. Nathan Richardson, acclaimed poet and spoken word performer, captures the physical and spiritual essence of the great orator and abolitionist.
