Special Presentation by Fort Lee Quartermaster Museum Staff Saturday, April 9, 2:00 p.m.

Unwind@YourLibrary Enjoy fun activities but short on time? Come check out our DIY boxes for quick and easy projects. We have art, brain games, duct tape box, and loom kit. Materials are provided. Come relax, bring your friends and have a fun time. For all ages.

Learn about the amazing artifacts and research documents housed only a few miles away at the Fort Lee Quartermaster Museum. Museum Staff will share tales of our soldiers and sailors with an opportunity for hands on history. Bring your family to learn a little about our Fort Lee neighbors and enjoy refreshments with the Hopewell/Prince George Friends of the Library.

Sit and Be Fit Tuesdays 3/1 - 5/31 - 10:30-11:30 a.m. No class on April 5th.

Hopewell Library

This full-body workout is designed to be done from both a seated chair and a standing position. The class will emphasize exercises to improve flexibility, muscle and bone strength, circulation, and balance. It is fun and easy and suitable to people of all fitness abilities.

American Sign Language Class

HIIT and Flow Fitness Class

Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 /5 - 6/7, 6:00-7:30 pm. Interested in sign language? Do you want to learn how to communicate with a friend or loved one? Well, we have the perfect class for you. Come learn beginning sign language for free at the Appomattox Regional Library at Hopewell. Classes will be taught by Mr. Darrell Avery, a graduate of Gallaudet University in Deaf Education. The classes will be co-taught by Ms. Connie Pierett, a Hearing Specialist and Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the Hopewell Public Schools. You will be required to purchase and have the book, “ Barron’s E-Z American Sign Language” available for the class.

Alzheimer's and Dementia 411 Know the 10 Signs: Forgetfulness When is it a Problem? Hopewell - April 5 - 6:30-7:30 p.m. Prince George - April 14 - 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Dinwiddie - April 21 - 5:30 - 6:30 pm (Topic to be announced) Cindy Hamlin, the Tri-Cities Regional Director of the Alzheimer’s Association will be presenting these informational sessions about Alzheimer.This program gives participants a review of the warning signs of dementia diseases, Alzheimer’s specifically, and when a person should consider a medical evaluation.

Mondays 3/14 - 5/23, 5:30-6:30 pm. Kathryn Thompson from the Sports Backers Fitness Warriors program will be here to present this fitness program. This will be a combination of high intensity training, yoga and pilates.

ADULT PROGRAMS Dinwiddie Library The Friends of the Library, Dinwiddie (FOLD) invites everyone to the Annual Spring Meeting on Monday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity to learn about Mrs. Yoder’s Donut Kitchen from Jay Yoder. He will explain a little about the family’s Mennonite faith, how the family decided to settle in Dinwiddie County, and the history of their very famous donut business. He will also be bringing a couple of trays of donuts for people to sample.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK April 10-16

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.

Prince George Library Yoga for Beginners Thursdays 3/10 - 5/26. There will be no class on April 7th. Receive the abundant benefits of yoga. This gentle class offers flowing movements at a gentle pace with attention to breathing and postures. You will see improvement in muscle strength, circulation, flexibility, and balance. It is suitable to people of all fitness levels. Please bring a yoga mat to class.

Poetry, Prose and Pizza Nathan Richardson, published poet and youth mentor, will host an evening to share original or favorite poetry or prose selections on Thursday, April 28, beginning at 6 p.m. The Hopewell/PG Friends of the Library host this event with sponsor Luca Italian Restaurant. So stop by to enjoy a slice of pizza and participate in this family friendly evening.

And don’t forget to visit The Reader’s Friend Bookstore at the Hopewell Library to find gently used books, CDs and DVDs. The Bookstore is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Proceeds from the bookstore and the ongoing sales at libraries like Dinwiddie, Rohoic, Carson, and McKenney help support programming for adults and children throughout the Appomattox Regional Library System.

Southside From the Heart Join our knitters and crocheters as they create items for local hospitals, nursing homes and shelters. Crafters of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

YOUTH PROGRAMS Friday, April 1 – Music ‘n’ Movement Prince George Library - April 1, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. It’s no joke! Come to the library for this fun and action-packed program that will have your preschoolers up and moving! For ages 3-5.

Saturday, April 2 – Crafts Burrowsville Library, Carson Depot Library, Dinwiddie Library, Hopewell Library, Prince George Library April 2, during regular library branch hours Head into the library for a fun spring-themed craft! All ages.

All Ages SPRING BREAK! (March 28 - April 2) Monday, March 28 – Little Scientists DINOSAURS! - STEM Program! Hopewell Library - March 28, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Do you have a budding scientist in your house? Bring them to this program designed for preschoolers! Working at different stations, your little scientist will be introduced to the world of dinosaurs, all while having fun! For ages 3-5.

Tuesday, March 29 – Lego Club Burrowsville Library, Carson Depot Library, McKenney Library, Rohoic Library - March 29, 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Bring out your builders! For Spring Break, we’re bringing Lego Club to four new library branches! So bring your imagination, but don’t worry about the Legos because we will have them ready and waiting for you! For ages 6-12.

Wednesday, March 30 – Gardening 101 Dinwiddie Library - March 30, 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. In this program for elementary students, kids will have fun while also learning about the basics of growing plants and flowers. Be prepared to get those hands dirty! For ages 6-12

Wednesday, March 30 – Teen Pizza Taste Test Party (grades 6-12) Prince George Library - 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. What do you think makes the perfect pizza? Thin or traditional crust? Red or garlic sauce? We want to know! Come to the Prince George Library where we will have pizzas from different locations; you try them then judge them! The winner will be crowned the best pizza in Prince George! For teens, grades 6-12.

Thursday, March 31 – Tricks for Tweens

Babies, Toddlers, & PreSchool (Birth to Pre-K) Story time programs aim to instill a love of reading by encouraging parents and other special adults to read aloud to children. Activities in story time promote brain and language development for children from birth to age 5. At story time, children and caregivers are introduced to six early literacy skills that are essential for learning to read including print motivation, narrative skills, phonological awareness, vocabulary, letter knowledge, and print awareness. Please join us! Story time sessions will now run 6 weeks at a time, with a one-week break in between. No registration is required. YOUTH PROGRAMS Special Story Times Pajama Story Time Bring a pillow, a blanket, your favorite stuffed animal, and settle in for some fun bedtime stories. Make sure to wear your pajamas, because we’ll be wearing ours! Hopewell Library - March 21, April 18, May 23; 6 p.m.

Baby and Me: A storytime for babies and their caretakers. A great introduction for you and your new family member to the wonderful world of books, rhymes and songs. For babies ages birth to 18 months old, this program is limited to 15 babies and will last approximately 30 minutes. Early Literacy Classes for Families featuring Rhonda Lee, Literacy Specialist Early literacy is everything a child knows about reading and writing before he or she can read or write. Developing these skills will help your child become a strong, independent reader. It is never too early to start! Join Ms. Lee, an Early Literacy specialist, after select Story Time sessions at the Hopewell, Dinwiddie, and Prince George libraries to learn ways to encourage early literacy skills in your children. Parents and caregivers will receive helpful tips and tricks as well as easy, inexpensive ways to help your child develop valuable skills and love reading!

St. Patrick’s Day Themed Story Times – March 14 - March 19 March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day! Join us for fun stories and a craft during the normal Story Time hours and then test your luck looking for a treasure at the end of the rainbow!

Earth Day Themed Story Times – April 18 - April 23 Join us as we celebrate Earth Day with stories and a craft during the normal Story Time hours.

Mother’s Day Themed Story Times – May 2 - May 7 It’s time to celebrate MOM with stories and a craft during the normal Story Time hours.

Lego Club! Tuesdays March 29, April 26, May 31 - 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Dinwiddie Library, Hopewell Library and Disputanta Library. The Appomattox Regional Library System is very excited to bring back Lego Club! If you are already a Lego Master Builder or even if you’re a first timer, this is the place for you. The library will provide the Legos, while the kids provide the imagination! Ages 6-12

Clever Canines Prince George Library, April 11 5:30-6:30 p.m. In this program for elementary schoolaged children, participants have the opportunity to read to therapy dogs. This is a great way for children to gain confidence in their reading skills and interact with our canine friends! Registration is required, and is limited to 8 participants. Free Comic Book Day! May 7 - All day (while supplies last) Hopewell Library, Prince George Library, Burrowsville Library, Carson Depot Library, Dinwiddie Library Do you love comic books? Want to get your hands on a FREE one? Come into the library on May 7 and pick out ONE comic book! We’re partnering with your friendly neighborhood comic book store, The Time Capsule, so if you come in and take a comic, you’ll also be entered to win some sweet swag! Remember, one comic per person, while supplies last!

Homeschool Huddle Monthly Meetup All Meetups will be at the Hopewell Library March 15, 2016, 1:00 p.m. Visit us at the library to learn more about different types of crafts - working with yarn, with paper, or with beads, there will be something fun for everyone to discover! *These will be demonstrations only; supplies and materials for students to try on their own will be limited.

April 19, 2016, 1:00 p.m. Show off your science skills at the Homeschool Huddle Science Fair! With three different school levels (elementary, middle, high), every one is able to enter. May 17, 2016, 1:00 p.m. Back by popular demand! What’s your favorite book? Or maybe a book that really changed your mind about something? We want you to show us by participating in our Reading Fair. Just like a science fair but with books instead of experiments! Presentations will be judged on creativity in three levels (elementary, middle, and high school).
