Welcome to your first Performance Marketing Insights: London This year has been a momentous one for PerformanceIN and our event series. We began in March by taking our conference, the first under the new Performance Marketing Insights brand, to New York. The two-day event enabled an American C+ audience to experience an event the PMI way. Leading global content, first class networking and a seamless experience in an exclusive environment. In May, combined with our seventh annual awards ceremony, A4u rebranded and became PerformanceIN. The new name reflects the content that the news site and conference agenda has been producing for many years, enabling the digital marketing industry to truly understand and embrace performance marketing on a global scale. This brought us to July, when we produced the final conference in the a4uexpo series and launched the new event brand Performance Marketing Insights; London, Europe, USA. The same conference and exhibition just got better: more innovation, more thought leadership, more brand engagement and more high-level networking. Every delegate can expect this and a lot more from our new flagship event at its new home on Westminster Bridge. Two days of the highest standard of content such as the ‘Change in Consumer Behaviour & Technology’ on the morning of day one to th ed. Nine local roundtables, eight brand and technology case studies, a buzzing exhibition floor, 15 leading agencies, industry speed networking for agencies, publishers and

advertisers and the sumptuous official networking event in central London makes up the remainder of the very first Performance Marketing Insights: London. It wouldn’t be possible to continue bettering ourselves and to continue growing our conferences, our content and your experience globally without the support of our sponsors, exhibitors and speakers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Affiliate Window, Criteo, affilinet, Tradedoubler, ResponseTap, Commission Junction, Webgains, OMG, Performance Horizon Group, Linkdex, BT, SaleCycle, myThings, UK Web Media, Net Media Planet, Marriott, DigitasLBi, Found, SMG Acquisition and etailPR Blogger Network, all of which, and many more, you will be able to meet with over the next two days. The growing team behind Performance Marketing Insights works tirelessly to ‘out-do’ ourselves, to ensure every conference is that bit better, cleverer, classier and relevant, generating actual measureable return on investment via the level of conversations and the lessons learned. My hope is that every delegate, speaker, exhibitor, and sponsor takes advantage of each opportunity across the two days and at the end, leaves our first Performance Marketing Insights: London that bit more inspired than when you arrived. I look forward to seeing you there, mine is unsurprisingly a G&T.

Sarah Parsonage, Managing Director

Welcome to our new event home, which also plays host to two days of our most diverse conference content to date. 2013 has been a stellar year for performance marketing, and we’re seeing the benefits a £9 billion pound revenue injection has had by raising the industry’s profile, enabling more spend and ultimately encouraging more stakeholders to tap into the potential of performance-related modelling. Our agenda this year continues to cover a vast array of digital marketing topics. There’s heightened focus on international expansion with two panels focusing on heading east and west, along with our local market roundtables where expert table hosts will assist you with answers to those important questions for anyone looking to expand activity into new markets. Don’t miss this year’s keynote session too. Although over 14 months have passed since the excitement of London playing host to the Olympics, Greg Nugent will account for his extremely busy and varied role as The London Organising Committee Of The Olympic Games (LOCOG) Marketing Director where his main goal was to market the games to over 60 million people, using different marketing techniques on a large but also niche scale. There’s also our power panel which hosts four high profile directors at some of the UK’s largest networks and technology providers who will tackle today’s hot topics and future gaze at the years ahead. It’s a session that is sure to fill up – fast! Alongside our three conference tracks we also have some quick fire strategy-led studies in our BT Live Theatre that will be taking place during networking breaks allowing you to hear first-hand some of today’s latest performance marketing practices in action. Ask questions, engage with our expert speakers and scribble hard! Enjoy the show,

Chris Johnson, Content Director

A Breeding Ground for Opportunity I always wake up somewhat anxious yet excited when it’s time for our flagship show and London’s first Performance Marketing Insights will be no different. A breeding ground for opportunity, a chance to discover the next big thing, what your peers are up to, and to instigate and seal deals both large and small. All around you at the show you’ll have the chance to meet nimble, smart startups alongside retailers and agencies spending hundreds of millions on their performance marketing activity. I remember at our last conference in Amsterdam I met a publisher who bumped into their biggest advertiser. A simple conversation over a beer at the networking party earned that one publisher a commission increase worth £50k over the year. Not a bad ROI! – You just need to open yourself up to the opportunity that the show presents to you and your business and your rewards will be forthcoming. Between the incredible seminars, it’s the conversations you have that will leave an impression.

As we are not a walk-in show everyone around you is performing within our industry and in addition, our talented speakers are fountains of knowledge in their own right. Chris Johnson has put together a fantastic agenda, I’d urge you not to miss the keynote and just remember to shake your British demeanor away and ask questions at the end of each session! Finally, Chris mentioned the £9bn industry that we have all created over the last 15+ years. That’s an impressive figure, yet one that can only be ascertained through the continued support of the IAB and PwC study. To find out more, or if you are not already supporting this fantastic study to make it annual then please email Clare O’Brien; clare@iabuk.net Enjoy the show.

Wear your wristband It is important to wear it at all times as this is proof you are a paid delegate and allows you access to the exhibition hall, conference sessions and networking events (subject to pass type).

The Don'ts :{ 

Tweet loudly We appreciate that we are part of an advanced digital industry but please be respectful of our speakers and turn your phone on silent.

Wear your badge This is compulsory for the conference venue but not for the official networking reception, however, it is recommended as it’s a brilliant networking tool, making you easily identifiable to potential new clients.

Badge swap This is strictly prohibited and anyone caught doing so will be ejected from the conference and will be unable to attend future PerformanceIN events.

Pick up a delegate bag These are filled with treats from our sponsors and are handy for any extras you pick up from around our buzzing exhibition hall.

Grow brand awareness For a sports retailer, we increased brand awareness five-fold within a 1 year period by using Display advertising and Paid Search marketing.

Rapidly changing technology is affecting consumers’ traditional path to purchase, influencing and disrupting their decision making process and blurring the lines between online and offline. Join our panel as they debate the pros and cons of today's latest technology innovations that are integrating consumers within multiple channels. How can these technologies be fully leveraged? What's next? And how can you future-proof your business in the face of such disruption?

Gavin Wilson, Sociomantic Labs

For today’s most aggressive online marketers ‘programmatic’ delivers more than automation. The real opportunity comes from leveraging truly individualised marketing at scale and reaching customers in any location and on any device. No other online channel offers marketers the chance to personalise every aspect of the marketing plan, from product and message to pricing and promotion. Find out how you can take retargeting to the next level by breaking through the one-to-one barrier with powerfully personalised, cross-device display campaigns that drive conversions and customer lifetime value.

Tim Elkington, IAB UK

You have heard the headlines from the first-of-its-kind performance marketing study released by the IAB. Such stats as 7-9% of UK digital marketing spend and £9 billion in sales helped give the industry recognition as a commercially viable and successful marketing channel. The past nine months have seen more insightful data extracted, which will be presented in this session. There’s still work to do, however, and Tim will discuss how the IAB plans to shape next year’s study. This is a great session if you’re new to performance marketing or wanting to shape future studies.

The power of cashback and incentive sites is irrefutable, but many advertisers struggle with an over reliance on these types of publishers. Some publishers also feel they can’t compete with these powerhouses. This session will deliver brand strategies that have created powerful performance marketing campaigns, which don't rely on incentive sites for the lion’s share of volume. The audience will learn useful insights and tips to reduce risk and broaden the mix.

Is your RFP allowing you to get the information you need? Is it updated to reflect your commercial goals and approaches? The procurement process can be long and arduous. It is important you get the right partnership between client and network. This witty session demonstrates common RFP mistakes. With smartphone use continuing to explode, the time spent interacting with apps is beginning to rival time spent watching TV. Discover how ad continuity can actually decrease your exit and bounce rates, how you can design your web pages to increase interest and time on site, detect your visitor’s goals and craft appropriate pages around them, communicate value to influence purchase decisions and importantly remove the elements that are stopping your visitors from purchasing.

Rav Dhaliwal, Office Shoes | Harry Hurst, Qubit | Michael Korkia, Hotels.com Andy Mihalop, MediaCom UK | Patrick Wyatt, Criteo Advertising has become as much science as art. Exciting new marketing attribution models and methods have emerged, allowing advertisers to become more sophisticated in their approach to measuring their ROI. Are we there yet? Online bookings are dominating the European travel market's recovery from the global economic downturn. Europeans spend around €98.1 billion on travel online, almost as much as they spend on all retail categories combined. How Email & Retargeting can turn SEO Traffic into Long-term Customer Journey Rewards PB AG AD NW TC OT 

With the emergence of the term ‘performance marketing’, are we losing track of the industry’s accomplishments? While networks and agencies continually look to expand on just affiliate marketing, the CPA model is no longer a USP. By losing its identity, have advertisers lost faith in the channel? The panel will discuss this question and the implications this has for the future.

Martin MacDonald, Expedia Affiliate Network

Agile consumers bring rewards to online companies through the portable internet and its considerable uptake. However, the number of devices that don't execute javascript or store cookies can hamper your data analysis. There are ways of making the data talk. If you’re losing a significant amount of statistical data to ‘not provided’, it’s certainly worth investing time to overcome the problem. Martin will show you how implementing workarounds can help improve your understanding of organic keywords and get a better insight into your missing (and much needed) user behaviour statistics.

Jason Duke, StrangeLogic

With the focus remaining firmly on ROI, we're all in danger of crowding onto the instant customer acquisition bus, concentrating on short-term wins only. But actually there's a lot more to be gained from stepping out of the queue and looking at your fuller customer journey. Industry veteran Jason Duke explores how brands can continue conversations to build a longer term and more rewarding relationship, exploring the very easy, yet often forgotten, email and retargeting tools which can turn SEO traffic into huge long-term rewards.

This year's IAB OPM Study revealed how finance is the highest earning performance marketing vertical. Adjusting campaigns to optimise client sales and the rules of compliance will be two of the many panel topics.

Speaker from myThings

A new, disruptive approach to programmatic advertising is emerging based on the notion that to fully leverage the opportunity and meet every advertiser's unique business goals, a whole new level of customisation is required. But how is this customisation achieved within programmatic campaigns? A generic, black box retargeting solution can work for small advertisers, but when it comes to larger advertisers, it's simply not enough. Delving into audience segmentation and the unique attributes attached to them, this session will provide a multidimensional view of programmatic advertising.

Greg Nugent London Olympics 2012

This year’s keynote speaker is Director of Brand, Marketing and Culture for London Olympics and Paralympics, Greg Nugent. Greg had the mammoth task of creating strategies for campaigns that had the potential to reach in excess of 60 million people. By taking on the mindset of a small business, Greg had to contend with the recession, changing consumer engagement, new marketing channels and the growing digital age. A team of over 400 people, responsible for the games’ entire marketing including CRM, email and data marketing, were all led under the watchful eye of Greg as he used databases that rivalled Barack Obama’s presidential election campaign for size, scale and culture. The database will be at the core of Greg’s presentation at Performance Marketing Insights: London, as he reveals to attendees facts about its creation and the various marketing campaigns it was used for.

R1

Dave Naylor returns to grace the speaker rostrum at PMI London and will deliver the truth behind the consistent hot topic; whether social media really is replacing the need for such a honed approach to traditional SEO strategies. Are social signals such as likes/tweets and +1’s a key ranking factor and how can Google trust the social accounts and the stats? Is social media taking more space in the SERPs at the expense of natural listings? Find out Dave's thoughts on the subject matter, plus he'll set some time aside so you can ask him those burning searchrelated questions.

The abandoned basket is a serious headache for online retailers and anyone relying on this type of conversion. There are various solutions that can be added to a marketer's arsenal such as increasing reactive campaigns and strategies to track down and encourage a return to the website, but what if you could spot these abandoners before they leave your website? What if you could use realtime data to re-market your products at the point of exit? This session will explore the possibilities of on-site remarketing, the impact to the end user and to your revenue.
