Lausanne Campus Inauguration
Lausanne , July 8, 2022 -After five years of construction and 250 million Swiss francs invested , EHL unveils a brand new campus in Lausanne . The jewel of sustainable and eco - certified architecture aims to create a holistic university village that is open to the local community, encourages interactions between students , professors and professionals , while offering an exceptional living environment to study
Designed by Students, for Students
Following a call for proposals in 2013, more than 385 students from nine schools of architecture and landscape design around the world submitted their ideas for the design of the campus From the 100 proposals received , 20 students and their professors were selected and invited to Switzerland to meet EHL students and learn about their expectations and aspirations for the new campus
The Result?
A revamped campus with 80,000 m 2 of grounds , expanded from 25,000 m 2 previously, nearly 1,000 beds to accommodate students on site and 12 food some are open to the public ) including a new high - end brasserie and a vegan restaurant True to the adage "a healthy mind in a healthy the campus offers first - rate sports facilities such as a 25- meter swimming pool , a wellness area with a sauna and a cold bath , a multipurpose sports hall , petanque , tennis and beach volleyball and 2 km of running track around the school
" Many are surprised to learn that the new campus infrastructure is primarily focused on living spaces and not on classrooms per se . Yet, at EHL , our pedagogical approach is applicable both inside and outside the classroom We believe that the campus is a vehicle for learning and should encourage the development of valuable soft skills . Our students will be able to further enrich their university experience and develop personally and
humanity – this , in particular, is thanks to the thirty or so student committees that will bring the campus and the soul of EHL to life ," comments Prof
Michel Rochat, CEO of the EHLGroupScholarship Foundation
EHL has its own memory game EHL’s 129- year evolution and its commitment to progress and diversity, from the changing dorm rooms to the washing up lessons prospective students , alumni , and even the potential business partner.

Campus Updates From EHL Passugg
The Revised Curriculum for the Federal Program in Higher Education at EHL Passugg
The revised EHL Passugg Curriculum for Swiss Professional Degree “Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Hospitality Management ” was launched in January 2022 on EHL Campus Passugg . It was based on the recently updated new curriculum framework for federally recognized hospitality management schools in Switzerland
As part of the adjustments , EHL Passugg has sharpened the graduate profile of the educational program and defined four roles in which students are trained for three years : Host, Communicator, Entrepreneur and Networker. A strong focus has been placed on the training of interdisciplinary competencies , which should strengthen the personality and acting skills of our students in their careers . For this purpose , EHL Passugg has developed four modules in "Affective Hospitality " in cooperation with the Center of Affective Science of the University of Geneva , which we already reported in Fall 2021. In January 2022, the first students on EHL Campus Passugg started the course . However, Affective Hospitality is much more than just a new subject

Strengthening Resilience and the Ability to Act
We are in a time in which the voices of the wokeness movement are getting louder and louder Serious discrimination and related structural flaws should definitely be addressed through awareness raising and new frameworks . However, in certain contexts , the impression is created that the "outside" world should adapt to each individual with his or her own unique perception and sensibility, whether it is race , gender, personal boundaries , cultural background , or dietary preferences If we really tried to avoid offending and hurting people at all costs through more and more policies , rules , and behavioral guidelines , taking everything and everyone into account, we would probably have very little room to maneuver over the next few years .
The four modules of Affective Hospitality, therefore , aim to train the awareness of self - responsibility and to strengthen resilience and one' s own ability to act. The basis for this is , first of all , the understanding of the nature and tasks of emotions ( Module 1: Emotion understanding ) and the training of self - awareness and self - regulation ( Module 2: Emotion regulation ). The awareness that each person
, must first be digested experience and reality. On this basis others are practiced ( Module 3: Emotion recognition is taught ( Module 4: Emotion management
From “Egosystem”
Inner Development
Currently, we can observe how more and more people evolve from an “egosystem ” to an ecosystem MIT, to move from a factual , controlling and market collective consciousness ( Scharmer
The fledgling Inner Development Goals around the world are not succeeding in consistently goals defined by the UN , the IDG project group formulated the following ans in our efforts to create a sustainable global socie build sustainable and regenerative futures Nations , has developed five categories with the first IDG Summit in Stockholm
Going through those competencies human interaction . Only the recognition that we are not really detach ( people , nature , environment) and that there is no separation between our inner generate in us the necessary impulse to solve the p only arise when the issues gain an emotional releva presence , self - awareness , mindfulness which have so far been cultivated more in spiritual scientific , economic and social contexts
The Culture of Affective Hospitality: Willingness to Open Up
The training of emotional competence for students is therefore only one element of Affective Hospitality on EHL Campus Passugg . The environment in which teaching takes place must also develop in the direction of emotionally competent behavior
Staff and lecturers were introduced to attentive and empathic listening a year ago According to Otto Scharmer,
" listening is the most important and most underrated leadership skill " and it takes a lot of training and introspection to practice true open - minded listening that is not burdened constantly by our own ideas and thoughts training of empathic listening , EHL Campus Passugg is gradually introducing platforms that support open exchange and mutual understanding between students and staff across departments and hierarchies For example , the EHL Passugg Family Circle is used to find answers to important campus questions together, or the Baobab Table an idea from EHL Campus Lausanne , is intended to lower the inhibition threshold in the Food Court to sit down at the table with unknown people and exchange ideas informally and get to know and understand each other better.
On EHL Campus Passugg we want to live what we teach , and it takes time and patience to break down hierarchies and silos to enable a culture of trust that sees students and staff as mature , selfresponsible people and where fruitful collaboration , exploration and action are possible . Affective Hospitality means the willingness to open up , to show oneself as vulnerable and approachable , and to make the emotional component just as important as the factual and subject - related one This affective attitude can be lived out in every single work and study place It takes courage to venture beyond one' s own comfort zone and into a field of uncertainty. But the trust, security and connectedness that underlie an affective culture will enable us to move forward in the future with agility, purpose and new ideas

Summer Break
5 Top Wellness Tips to Reset & Transform Your Mindset This Summer
Summer is here ! The season of endless sunsets , barbecue by the lake , retiring your stockings , and practicing your barista skills with new summer cocktails to impress your friends ( hey, you ’re AEHL , after all ).
It ’s also a great time to encourage healthy habits , and outdoor activities , and to take your wellness up a notch . Read our top five summer wellness ideas to reset your mindset
Remain Hydrated
Dehydration can cause unclear thinking , resulting in mood changes , body overheat, and could lead to constipation and kidney stones But proper hydration is more than having an occasional sip of water. Aim to keep a reusable bottle with you and refill it regularly throughout the day
You can hold yourself accountable by setting reminders to drink more water using the alarm on your smartphone or smartwatch .
Reapply Sunscreen
One - off application isn ’ t enough . Keep sunscreen with you when you know you ’re going to be outside , and remember to reapply every two hours !
This is especially important for those of you who live in a colder mountain climate . Build up your sun exposure slowly. This will give your skin time to respond by producing more melanin , which will offer increased levels of sun protection itself
Step Outside
Spending more time outdoors has been shown to improve short - term memory, restore mental energy, reduce stress , and spark creativity Also warm weather and clear skies are the perfect excuse to step out of your home office and get active
Make an effort to get out and meet up with friends or do so on your own . This is your time to focus on the things that make you happy, reconnecting with nature and taking time to breathe .
Make Time to Relax
After a few summers of lockdowns and travel restrictions , make some fun plans to let loose and relax You ’ ll do your health a favor Research shows those who relax have lower heart rates , less stress , and reduced symptoms of issues like anxiety and depression .
Sitting with a Faculty
We all miss our evenings at BDS ( well , maybe our student cards don ' t miss it as much ). Champagne as appetizers , delicious set menus made by our colleagues , and the grand finale : the cheese trolley. Today, we ’ ll learn more about our BDS puppet master, Eric Iunker, who has been managing our favorite Michelin Star restaurant for nothing less than 22 years Find out fine dining predictions and how Eric maintains happiness and balance working in such a demanding position for so many years .
Interview with Eric Iunker
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
EI: I ’m a Senior Lecturer in the Berceau des Sens ( BDS My role is to train the AP students in theory and practice in a two - week workshop
What brought you to work at EHL?
EI: Before EHL , I worked in a Michelin Star not far from here . Back in 1999, I learned that EHL’s former General Director, Maurice Zufferey, wanted to open a public restaurant at the school and was looking for someone to run this ambitious new project. I was highly interested in the challenge of creating a training restaurant that is open to the public , so I was hired as a project manager to create the first BDS
Funny enough , I thought I ’d remain for no longer than five years (at least long enough to create and launch the ‘’ baby ’’). Twenty- two years later, here I am . Always with pleasure , of course
What about all of this made you stay for so long and still enjoy your position ?
EI: Firstly, I love the duality, meaning , I always have one leg in the operational field and the other in the academic field
It doesn ’ t even feel like I ’m going to work in the morning , rather it ’s a true pleasure . Also , both my colleagues and I feel very valuable and have a deep pride when we see students evolving in the workshop This is very rewarding
To me, if we have a pleasant personal life, family, or friends, that’s where we shine. It’s what fuels us towards wellbeing and satisfaction in what we do.
What to you is the next big trend in the gastronomy world ?
EI: We can clearly see that global warming is having a huge impact on the food industry, but the fine dining niche seems to have reacted with some delay The good news is that more and more establishments are now obliged to take this into account these branches , we' re more aware of our employee working conditions . The work is hard and very demanding
It ' s extremely difficult to find qualified personnel a you have to ask the question " why get out of this environment during Covid and they don ' t come back ? We must reconsider working conditions , hours , vacations There is definitely a lot of progress to be made .
You ’re clearly a busy man , what do you do to maintain the balance between wel work , especially with the long hours that the restaurant
EI: This is a huge challenge because one of the goals i s essential we keep ourselves mentally fit

Interview with Amélie Loubeyre
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
AL: I grew up in Paris and came to EHL in 1999, graduating in 2002. At the time , I wanted to work in Canada , but life decided otherwise , going to Geneva where I dove into the Swiss hotel business I then branched into finance , more in multinational trading companies (commodities , treasury), ending up in trade finance .
Living in Geneva and being close to fantastic nature has only made my love for mountains grow I wanted to link my love for the mountains , my sense of service , and my hotel side That ' s why Potentiels Montagne was created , a platform to easily organize tracking , team - building , or unusual events
Today your work is 100% Potentiels Montagne ?
AL: It ’s only the beginning , but I try to , yes My niece is also an AEHL and she told me about this eJournal and I thought this was a good way to get known within the network
Where did the idea to leave the office to start an entrepreneurial venture come from ?
AL: It ' s been coming for a long time * laughs*, back to when I studied at EHL when I was 21 years old . I could already see myself setting up a hotel in nature where I could offer sporting activities .
This is to say, I went to EHL knowing that I would like to be independent I had ambitious ideas of opening a bar, altogether with another former student, but nothing was done
When I climbed Mont Blanc for my 42 nd birthday, something happened More than ever, I knew I wanted to become independent, to be free in the mountains , it was very resourceful . Stumbling upon this school Et Col Et Pic during the first confinement, which proposed a program that interested me .
I told myself ‘’ it ’s now or never, Amélie how sometimes you need to get lost to get back on
track I feel infinitely more passionate about my choice
Let ’s travel back to your early years at EHL
AL: Well , evenings at EHL were always spent drunk seriously, yes , even though the evenings were memorable and the high - level teachers .
Being always on campus , even those of us who didn create lifelong friendships We were with them seemingly side , with ongoing support. If you fall upon . And that ' s our strength

HEIMA
A Startup from the EHL Innovation Village
Heima started from our quest for reconnection to nature and our desire to share it with like-minded individuals We believe inspiration and knowledge to navigate today’s world are within reach if we listen and allow back silence and spaciousness
Heima’s founders Mark Tosi and Marco Antonio Caporale (EHL Alumni) have partnered with Kengo Kuma’s architect Paolo Danesi decided to disrupt the industry with the bold vision to make outdoor journeys accessible for luxury travelers while facilitating their own inner journeys
Heima’s offer is for landowners, companies, public stakeholders or simply investors, who have a willingness to conserve a pristine location and/or heritage.
The inspiration started from cabins, the tiny wooden houses used in the Scandinavian countries to retreat in nature with as little as a layer of glass to separate living space from natural habitat At Heima we decided to take this consolidated archetype to the next stage providing impeccable hospitality services, organizing wellness retreats in the most stunning scenarios, and providing the authenticity that today’s “fenced resorts” may lack
Being privileged to develop projects in such pristine locations, to us sustainability is not an option but a duty We are on a mission to shift hospitality’s mainstream view of sustainability, from limiting impact and recovery to fostering positive change through actions
We strive to create space for a different pattern, in which each development is seen as a unique living ecosystem blurring the boundaries between resort, surroundings and local communities. Consistency is ensured through the curation of the whole value chain from feasibility studies and technical services, to pre opening services and ongoing management
Since its incorporation, Heima has been receiving important recognitions th and prestigious partnerships such as the one with w group A strong focus has been put from the start on R government with Swiss Universities to ensure a cons

Sitting with a Stammvater
Remember those after-work gatherings at La Ferme after burning our brains with student projects Maybe you went to unwind, to chat with friends before going home, or to drink student days after-work gatherings but, thankfully, we have regular Stamm events around the world to keep the #EHLSpirit alive. Today, we’ll hear from Luzern’s Stammvater, Christian Laue; how he got started in the Stamm, the challenges keeping it alive, and more
Interview with Christian Laue
Tell us about yourself
CL: I graduated from the BSC program in 2005, French section I’ve only worked for a short time in the hospitality industry having moved to the insurance, and pharmaceutical companies such as Novartis
Currently, I’m quite active in the Basel Alumni network and I happy to have been elected as Stammvater of Luzern. Now I starting work in a consulting company
It’s been a few months since you were elected as Stammvater of the Luzern Stamm, congrats! What drove you to apply for this position?
CL: Thank you so much To me, the Stamm is very important and it’s wonderful to have these events where people have the chance to gather and reconnect with their EHL peers
But the former committee was almost dissolving and, wanting to keep it alive, altogether with Simon, I stepped up Our goal is to bring diverse cultures and industries together (going beyond pure hospitality) and form what the Stamm really should be about: a strong community with this one big thing that unites them–the EHL spirit
CONNECT WITH CHRISTIAN LAUE ON LINKEDIN
This July edition of the eJournal will focus on transformation and we understand that Stamm Luzern will go through one. That’s exciting. What are the challenges you see in the next three years?
CL: To me, there are two main challenges Firstly, the prior committee had five people whose shoes will be extremely hard to fill. We need to attract the EHL community with a program that gives value so they remain active in the community We can’t solely rely on the relationships the former committee had; we need to nurture them
Secondly, it’s becoming harder to attract a great number of active EHL students who are either in internships or who
Wherever the Stamm is, you’ll always have a home.
have just graduated This makes it more difficult to integrate them from the beginning into the Stamms
A concern of mine is that, upon graduating, students won’t work in hospitality anymore and this will impact their ability to perceive the value of joining the Stamm We need to convey our worth Be it in a
social way, be it in a professional way, or even for those who are
As Stammvater, Is there any message you would like to send to the community?
