Julio Fuentes has a deep lineage in the golf industry through his grandfather and father both serving many years at various golf courses on the island of Puerto Rico. Julio started his career at the age of twelve as a caddie at the Berwind Country Club Iocated in Rio Grande PR. Through his desire to continue working in the golf industry he turned to the golf course maintenance staff at Berwind. Through his hard work ethic and accomplishments he was given his first position as Golf Course Superintendent at Berwind in 2008. Julio was given the opportunity to relocate to the Rio Mar Country Club and work along side his father managing maintenance of the River and Ocean courses also in Rio Grande PR.

Julio’s father passed in 2011 which inspired Julio to dedicate his career to him and develop his knowledge and skills to become a superior manager in this industry. Julio relocated to South Florida to begin his employment with Cypress Golf Course Services in the capacity of Golf Course Superintendent on the Palms golf course. As opportunities grew, Julio embraced every chance to expand his knowledge, working at the exclusive Boca Grove Club, before returning to his current position with Cypress Golf Course Services at Cypresswood Golf and Country Club.

Julio has proven to be a champion in the turf grass and golf course maintenance industry and continues to strive for the best possible golf course conditioning day in and day out.

Kevin P. Breen, the certified golf course superintendent (CGCS) at La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos, Calif., was re-elected to a one-year term as president of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) at the association’s annual meeting February 9, held in conjunction with the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show.

Breen is the 86th president in the association’s history and the first to be elected to a second term since 1947. Breen was nominated for a second presidential year when the 2022 Vice President Kevin P. Sunderman, CGCS, resigned from the board to join the GCSAA staff as chief operating officer.
