Turf Pirate's Journal $Keeping an Eye on the Horizon $

that time with two turf legends was extremely impactful. I also need to give a shout out to TA Barker who had a big role in my return to property management and greenkeeping from this trip as well. Back to the photo, as I looked through that bullet hole in the sign that marked the great Salt Lake, I was reminded of how far turf had carried me and of how many adventures may lie ahead if I choose to launch my career a new, it was at that moment Dave took the photo, from the future side of the sign. I have not forgotten the lessons of that trip and of the need for high quality friends as we sail in the vast green sea of turf that is the golf industry and its never-ending challenges. You see Turf Pirates we will be tested along the way; many give up their green dreams and turn away from the goal, their life’s calling. The key is never taking your eye off the horizon, look and listen for the clues that will guide you. Bend but never break you alone know what you are truly called to do but in the lore of Turf Piracy we always help each other rise up and carry on without judgement or debt incurred. This is the way.

No matter where you are in your life and career take a minute and look through the bullet hole, stare into the potential of your future and dare to change your stars. I found a key clue to my future thousands of miles from home in the middle of the great Salt Lake, I am changed and am still changing. So cast your raft onto the sea of life with no more than the hope of tomorrow and the skills gathered from many yesterdays and make your mark on the world. Boldly we go turf pirates into another golf season but remember keep one eye on the horizon and adjust your sails as needed and rest assured that sunny shores and frosted mugs await the stout-hearted.
