TEACHING EXPERIENCE Teacher Intern, Third Grade, West Greene Elementary School, Snow Hill, NC 2006 – present West Greene’s vision statement is: “to be the model rural elementary school in the nation” and their mission statement is: “Where Everyone Succeeds Together.” As of March 2007, West Greene had 57 Certified Staff, 42 Non-Certified Staff and 812 students of which the majority is minority. Of this 812 student population, I taught 24 of them in a class of consisting of African American and Hispanics students. During this internship I have accomplished the following: • Created and taught six-step lessons in all content areas using varied instructional strategies such as technology, group work, experiments, out-of-the room implementation of skills taught such as measuring long and short school buses in meters and centimeters. • Designed and implemented a classroom management plan consisting of procedures, rewards, and consequences as it related to the individual child and the class as a whole. • Constructed classroom visuals to enhance the learning of the students in reading and comprehension of subject areas (posters, charts, art work, etc.) • Arranged a hands-on discovery unit on “Plant Life” that was implemented by the use of both group work and individual experiments. Teacher, Koinonia Christian Center Church Youth Department, Greenville, NC 2000-present The Youth Department of Koinonia seeks to assist parents in developing their children to be well-rounded and responsible citizens. (252) 110-2226 Teacher Assistant, Wintergreen Primary School, Greenville, NC June 1998 – June 2007 (First Grade Assistant from 2001- 2004) (Kindergarten Assistant from 1998 to 2001) Wintergreen Primary seeks to: “ensure that all students master the skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world through high expectation, excellence in teaching for learning and a safe and orderly environment.” I have accomplished the following: • Conducted small group instruction in reading to provide additional practice in reading and comprehension, as well as handwriting groups to provide one-on-one assistance with brainstorming topics and completing writing assignments. • Enforced the classroom management plan as I monitored and assisted with daily duties • Performed clerical duties while utilizing organizational skills and providing more time for the teacher to focus on instructional time. • Led morning group time that consisted of calendar math activities and Shared Reading. This provided the students with consistency in learning, practice applying skills learned in math and other subject areas to the normal calendar routine, and allowed the teacher to address any parent concerns that came in with the Homework folders in the morning. Teacher, A Child's Place Development Center, Greenville, NC 1996 – November 1998 A Child’s Place serves Pitt County Memorial Hospital Employees. The staff/child ratio was1:10 in the 4-5 year old classroom in which I worked as a Co-Teacher. While working here, I achieved the following: • Developed weekly thematic lesson plans with age appropriate extensions (adaptations and modifications). • Monitored the kids at play inside and outside removing any hazards that were foreseen as they enjoyed a learning environment full of hands-on activities. • Designed and created classroom visuals to create a positive learning environment as well as to enhance the lessons.
