Stronger Than You Think I want you to see yourself as a mighty hero, as someone that’s well able. The reason you face big challenges is because you have a big destiny. The reason you have great obstacles is because you have greatness in you. The reason the pressure feels overwhelming is because you are stronger than you think. That difficulty is an opportunity to discover what’s in you. Things may look like they could never turn around; the storm is darker than ever. On your own, you're done. But you’re not on your own. Get ready; peace is coming, favor is coming, victory is coming. You’re going to see God override what’s trying to stop you. There’s no storm too strong that He can’t calm. No giant too big that He can’t defeat. No fire too hot that He can’t step into and bring you out. No lion too hungry that he can’t close their mouth. No Pharaoh too powerful that He can’t change their mind. You may have a good reason to settle where you are, but God loves you too much to let you miss your destiny. It may seem like another routine day, everything looks the same, but God is going to show up and do something out of the ordinary, something that you didn’t see coming, something that thrusts you to a new level. Sometimes we’re waiting for God to change the circumstances. “God, make me happy, cheer me up, help me to overcome this discouragement.” The truth is, God is waiting on you. You walked into the dry place. The good news is you can walk out. Arise from that depression. Shake off the blahs. Shake off what hasn’t worked out. This day is a gift. They say March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb. I wonder what they will say about February. Maybe March will start off like a lamb and we can start to get back to a somewhat normal way of life. I believe our political leaders are still trying to control everything we do but, I think they are loosing the battle. We are coming out of our homes & garages looking for social activities and interactions with other like minded individuals. Sure I’ll still social distance…. my car from your car as I watch you disappear from sight, in my rearview mirror. The March schedule has over a dozen events you could choose from, so fire up your car/truck or bike, point it into the wind, and go have a good time….. You deserve it. Here are some of my emails …. Jimbo, Not all hot rodders and classic car owners drive the 50 thousand dollar restored cars, or have a workshop to die for. The vast majority of us work out of garages after work under halogen lights, and dimly lit garages. We work with what we have. We aspire to be the greats that we see online, but know we are only as good as our hearts let us be. We are known by our cars, not our true selves. The very vehicle we slave over pouring every ounce of energy and spare change into, may be gone in an instant. Watch the neighbor staying up till 2 in the morning every weekend, as you may be impressed what a small toolbox, and large vision will produce. Rickey Brewer Jimbo, To my friends, we have all let this happen to us right under our nose, NOW is the time to do something, As a lover of RACE cars,

Hot Rods, and Performance Machines, it is apparent they will be the NEXT THING this Government will ban or try to take away. With NO Gas, there will be NO RACING, unless it is electric golf carts, Top Fuel will be gone, NASCAR (what's left of it) will be gone or it will be a BLM storyboard like the NFL.......Help me bring this to everyone's attention, call your congressman and senator and demand exclusions for the motorsports industry.... They have not passed a Bill ever that helps us, NEVER, call them now.... Some of you that know them or know their contact #'s or address share them with all of us, let's make this a mission.... I don't know all the ways to try to make this happen... HELP ME help us..... I Want to see Racing live, DO NOT Doubt ME.... it is under attack, like our Southern way of life...... THEY DO NOT CARE, WE do..... what can you do to make them aware of this!!! CAR Clubs, Track owners, Car Shows,,,, let's try to make an effort... Please Bill Bissell Jimbo, My Mother-in-law began reading, "The Exorcist". She said it was the most evil book she ever read. So evil in fact, she couldn't finish it. she took it to the beach and threw it into the Gulf off a fishing pier. I went and bought another copy, ran the faucet over it and left it in her night table drawer by her bed. I'm going to Hell Jimbo, An old Native American man has a need to borrow $500, so he goes to his local bank and asks to speak with the Loans officer. The banker welcomes him and then says a loan application form must be completed. So he takes a loan application form from his desk drawer and begins to question the old man. “So, what are you going to do with the money?” he asks the man. “Buy silver, make jewelry, then sell it,” the man responded. “And what have you got for collateral?” asked the banker. “Don’t know collateral,” replied the old man “Well that’s something of value that you provide us with to cover the cost of the loan if you fail to repay,” said the banker. “For instance, have you got any vehicles?“ “Yes. 1979 Chevy pickup,” replied the old man The banker shook his head, “No that won’t do, I’m afraid. How about livestock?“ “Yes, I have a horse,” replied the old man. “How old is it?” the banker enquired. “Don’t know, has no teeth,” replies the old man. The conversation went on like this for a while but eventually the banker decides to grant the $500 loan to the old man. Several weeks later the old man returns to the bank. He pulls out a large roll of $100 bills from his pocket, “Here to pay,” he says. He then hands the banker $500 in $100 bills to repay his loan. “Business has been good I can see,” says the banker. “What are you going to do with the rest of that money?“ “Keep it close to me,” the old man responded. “Why don’t you just deposit it in my bank,” the banker enquired. “Don’t know deposit,” replied the old man “Well, you just put the money in our bank and we take care of it for you. Whenever you want to use it, you can withdraw it,” the banker responded. The old Native American man leans across the desk and looks the banker in the eye and asks, “What you got for collateral?“ Ahanu.goldtooth@

through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like. But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit! And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life - do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. Do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. ---RedHawk Seeker of Visions--Till next month… Jimbo I’ll leave you with this……….

The rain had stopped and there was a large puddle just outside the door to the American Legion Hall. A rumpled old Navy Chief was standing near the edge with a fishing line in the puddle. A curious young Marine fighter pilot came over to him and asked what he was doing. "Fishing," the old Chief simply said. "Poor old Chief," the Marine officer thought to himself and invited the old Navy Chief into the bar for a drink. As he felt he should start a conversation while they were sipping their spirits, the young pilot winked at another pilot sitting nearby and asked the Chief, "How many have you caught today?" "You are number 14," the old Chief answered, taking another sip from his double shot of 12-year-old Scotch. "Two Air Force, three Army, and nine Marines".

Jimbo, You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people

This Month Miss Emelia Jackson is our March centerfold. (page 28-29). The 1939 Ford “Red Devil” Gasser is the handy work of Dan Tackett. Emelia leads a life of regimented discipline, exercise, and diet. Emelia expresses herself in songs written with deep emotions. “Music, as far back as I can remember, seemed to be the one thing I turned to when I was happy, sad, confused, hurt or scared.” “I was different from everyone else in my family but I felt loved from my loyal mother and even though I was too young to understand the Lord and what he truly meant to my life, he has always been my guiding light. As I grew and the years went by, I traveled and put myself into life head first. I knew there was more to my world than what I was being shown and I wanted more. I wanted to feel like I was ‘that somebody’ my mom and the Lord believed me to be.” More on page 26

I recently had the pleasure to attend the first Rod Run of the year, in the new toy we bought last year. No, I did not enter it being it’s a 2005, I did however support their efforts. Only went for the Saturday in January. I was just glad to see folks in attendance at the Winter Rod Run hosted by Southern Who. Yes, masks were in vogue, and social distancing was encouraged. Still, lots of friends gathered and met just like we always did before the plague struck. The attendance was certainly off from the numbers they had experienced in prior years, and I am sure the threat of rain and the plague held some folks’ cars hostage in their garages. All in all, it was a fun day for me to escape the world of staying confined in the Queens castle. I am sick and tired of folks being mandated to stay home, and I am also sad for our small business owners that to me, have been impacted the most. Just wondering why have the large retail outlets been allowed to proceed as usual while the little guy gets beleaguered with all sorts restrictions, edicts, and has to endure huge losses in revenue. I guess I may never understand this. And these restrictions and mandates and attendance number limits have impacted all of our car and truck and bike events as well. The ones that suffer the most are the benefactors of many of these events. Most the groups that put these events on donate to their favorite charities. Many charitable groups also put on their own events and I

am sure, due to cancelations and extremely low attendance those folks have also been negatively impacted. In February’s column, I didn’t list some of my highly anticipated events for the coming year. I am sure hoping all of them, weather permitting, are held and quite successful. So here is my look forward to events, or at this point looking back. First will be the Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Challenge at Gulfport Dragway Feb 16th. Next on my list of things to do, The VFW Auxiliary show in Bay St Louis Ms. Feb 27th. Then, on March 6th, the Gnat Nationals Hosted by the Misfit Street Krewezers, at a new location. My next on the list of events to do is again Back to the Gulfport Dragway for the 10th Atomic Blast April 23, 24. There are more but the Big one for me that I am already registered for is the NSRA Street Rod Nationals, in Louisville Kentucky August 5-8, and then in October Cruising the Coast, as always, a must do for me. As you can see there should be many others listed in here, but as of this writing, I am not aware of more of my favorites, sure hope they can be added to my to do list in the coming months. I am sure its not just me but many others are ready to once again have fun with cars. I know I need the time away and the distraction from everyday life and enjoying driving and visiting with like-minded car, tuck, and bike folks. Its past time for me anyway. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could walk in to a bank wearing a mask and ask a teller to give me some money. In the olden days, folks dressed this way were considered robbers. How times have changed, and hopefully not this way forever. Time to go, a motorcycle, and an old truck just don’t put themselves together, so off to the carriage house it is for me, until next time… Later Gizmo

This Month the Spring Show season is finally getting started. We made it over to Slidell for the 29th Annual Southern Who Winter Rod Run. Always a very nice organized show with 3 days of show and evening fun/games to keep you busy. This year's event was held in honor of "Big Al". They had a nice turn out with over 50 registered cars/trucks coming out to support them. The Cruisin the Coast Raffle car made its first appearance of the year. Watch for it at several shows/events throughout the year to buy tickets and for your chance to win it at CTC 2021. As I having been telling y'all in the Cole Report for years "Just Cruise". Also remember to watch for our friends out riding their bikes. See y'all somewhere or everywhere. Allen. PS: Look for my Dad to be making several runs with us this year, he's ready to ride.

Lifting Up Skirts! Do you think that the title is referring to Poodle Skirts? No it does not! Although I was thinking about a bunch of terms from my youth, it is not about those, either, although I did think about Necker Knobs (or Suicide Knobs), and curb feelers, (No, that is not about something naughty, either.) You know, those whiskers to warn drivers their tires are in close proximity to a curb or other obstruction so you didn’t scuff your whitewalls? No, I am referring to fender skirts. I also thought we could include Continental Kits in this history lesson as well. First described as “Pants”, fender skirts were used for the streamlining effect by Frank Lockhart on a 1928 Stutz land speed record attempt vehicle. Factory production of fender skirts began with the 1939 Graham-Paige. Aesthetically streamlined designs were copied to mass-produced models. Fender skirts were implanted for both aesthetic and aerodynamic reasons. Rather than air flowing into and being trapped in the rear wheel well, it flows smoothly over the bodywork. They were detachable to accommodate tire changes. Fender skirts were often paired with whitewall tires. By the 1970’s, fender skirts began to disappear from mass market automobiles. Fender skirts look terrific under two conditions: 1. If they are an appealing shape, and 2. If they are on the right car. Skirts were designed to imply motion, making the car appear to be floating, similar to a speed boat with the back half at water level and the front rising up smartly. An appealing skirt shape looks like a seamless blend with the bodywork, as if it was born to be with the car. A bubble shape belongs on a round, deco-era car and a flat shape on a smoother late 1940 or 1950’s automobile. The lower edge of the skirt should flow from the rocker panel and cover enough of the rear wheel to imply motion. Skirts should add to great bodywork, and not distract from it. The right car and the right shape is a subjective call. Mid 1930’s to early 1960’s era custom cars can benefit from a good set of fender skirts…but not all of them. The wrong fender skirt can look tacked on and is distracting in a negative way. It is like putting lipstick on a pig…it just does not look right. On the other hand, a nice pair of steel teardrop skirts make a 1939 Ford, Mercury, or Lincoln Zephyr the period-perfect prewar custom, and a set of “Foxcraft” skirts complete a mild custom 1959 Impala. The bottom line is that not all cars look good in them and not all fender skirts fit the look of every car. They have to be integrated to the style of the particular vehicle, and that is a personal choice. The Continental Kit was made for virtually every make of automobile in the North American market by the early 1950’s. In most cases it was an option directly from the manufacturers. A Continental Kit is an upright externally-mounted spare tire located behind an automobile’s trunk. The Continental Kit became popular after it made an appearance on Edsel Ford’s Lincoln Continental in 1942, and continued on for many more years. The term also describes a non-functional bulge that is stamped into the trunk lid or a cosmetic accessory to the rear of the car, giving the impression of a spare tire mount. Because of the dramatic appearance of the Continental Kit, it became a much sought after accessory of the era, and to this day typifies the spirit of the fifties. The development of the enclosed trunk on automobiles meant the spare tire could be placed out of sight, but this arrangement utilized valuable space for carrying luggage. Legend has it that Henry Ford II complained that the trunk of his personal Ford Thunderbird did not have room for a set of golf clubs without removing the spare tire. I don’t know if this is true or not, but the

8

MARCH 2021

www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

1956 Ford Thunderbird had the spare tire mounted outside. The added weight behind the rear wheels, however, was said to adversely affect steering and handling. For 1957 the Thunderbird trunk was stretched 5 inches to allow the spare tire to migrate back inside, although the Continental mounting was still optional. The external spare wheel mount became a customizing aftermarket appearance accessory during the 1950’s, with several manufacturers offering them. “Foxcraft” (the same company that made fender skirts) had a complete line and were sold through J.C. Whitney and other wholesalers. Many used a chrome plated or stainless steel ring with either a full face plate (which was an ideal spot to paint a name onto) or a partial ring with a hubcap in the center. Some vehicles looked great with them installed and some looked hideous. A lot of customizers improved the appearance by extending the rear fenders so that it did not appear that the Continental Kit was just hanging off the rear. This extended the length of cars so much that many people were forced to install small casters under the bumper to keep it from scraping the ground when negotiating driveways. I believe this is when flat exhaust extensions became popular. Most exhaust pipes were round when installed and were flattened by going in and out of driveways. The average attached garage in 2021 would have a difficult time accommodating these lengthened legends. I have included some photos that I hope bring back fond memories for you. Those were the days I can still recall like only yesterday. The right time, the right place, the war was over and the future looked bright ahead. There was hope in the air and good news was being spread. They made the best looking cars the world has ever seen. There were barbecue parties in the backyard every week. Back then the girls and cars were hot, and I was cool. I was too fast to live and too young to die. I had a smile on my face… Those were the days! Hey bean, I am ready to get out there, pile the kids on the running board, hit the foot feed, and agitate the gravel. I might even want to play a little back seat bingo. If you don’t remember these slang terms, then you may be too young for me to hang out with. Stay safe and take a kid to a car show…and an adult.

begins around 7:30am til so please come join us. Hopefully by the time you read this article, our weather will have begun to warm up. While we had the Lucedale Edwards Drugs February Breakfast Cruise, weather wasn't friendly and everyone that came (there were some hardy souls) stayed inside Edwards and shared breakfast, talk and coffee. I had originally decided to write about some of the funny mistakes the car restorers wanted to share but thought the following article might provide you with some interesting reading. Automotive Industry in 1940 - Long before the United States entered WWII, automobile manufacturers began devoting ever greater amounts of production time to defense work, for export to Britain as well as for the U.S. The Chrysler Corporation was one of the car makers most active in defense work. As the involvement of the U.S. in the war became imminent, the automobile industry played a more important role than ever in the rearmament of the country. Ford built airplane engines for the British government. B-24 Liberator and glider bombers for the U.S. Military. Ford also turnedout tanks, armored cars, jeeps and engines for robot bombs. Ford's plants in Great Britain and Canada had joined the production efforts of the U.S. and produced everything from mobile canteens to four-wheel-drive trucks and autos, grenades, bombs and engine powered landing craft. General Motors converted all its production to the war effort and delivered more than $12 billion worth of goods, ranging from airplanes to tanks, marine diesel engines, trucks, machine guns, and shells. No other manufacturer delivered as much material to the Allied forces. Chrysler made everything from fuse bomb noses, forging and machining shells, cartridge cases, tanks, anti-aircraft guns, aircraft engines, and they played a major role in the B-29 bomber. They also made assorted military vehicles such as command cars, ambulances, trucks, and weapon carriers. At the vast Willow Run plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the Ford Motor Company performed something of a miracle 24-hours a day. The average Ford car had some 15,000 parts. The B-24 Liberator long range bomber had 1,550,000. One of the B-24's came off the line every 63 minutes. America launched more vessels in 1941 than Japan did in the entire war. By the end of the war, more than half of all industrial production in the world would take place in the U.S. Without the massive amounts of equipment produced by millions of men and women on the Homefront for use by the 11+% of the population in the uniforms of the Armed Forces, the result of the war would have been quite different. Early in 1941 it became clear that production of passenger cars would need to be cut to save materials for defense purposes. As far as cars were concerned, WWII shut down the industry. What cars were produced were requisitioned by the U.S. for use at home and abroad. As we think about the sacrifices made by what is known as 'the Greatest Generation', we realize those cars produced prior to WWII are a real treasure and should be treated as such. This first photo is the 1940 Ford Couple. This car is a favorite of hot rodders and back in the late 40's, early 50's was often involved in street racing by teenagers.

10

MARCH 2021

This next photo is a 1940 Chevy Master Deluxe. This car had great style and had most of the car market the big 3 automotive giants were General Motors with 44% of the total market, Ford with 31% and Chrysler with 24%.

While Chrysler was not the largest manufacturer by far, they certainly turned out some beautiful cars such as this Chrysler Windsor. They were also ahead of the other manufacturers in their innovations. We, as Americans, should never forget the sacrifice made by our forefathers and mothers. We should also realize the resiliency of Americans and our ability to withstand overwhelming odds. Our automotive industry has powered innovations, provided transportation to most of the population and employment for a better standard of living. The cars of yesteryear have been a joy for all of us who are car enthusiast and enjoy the hobby of car restoration. So, cruise on America! Please join us at Lucedale Edwards Drugs every 2nd Friday of the month beginning at 7:30 a.m. til.

Edelbrock Relocating Main Office to Mississippi Edelbrock, one of the largest aftermarket parts manufacturers in the industry, is leaving its Torrance, California headquarters and heading to a Mississippi facility. However, Edelbrock’s manufacturing plant will only be moving a short way away to San Jacinto, CA. When asked about the timeline of the move, Edelbrock Group’s Chief Commercial Officer Chris Douglas said, “The transition has been in planning since last Fall. Employees were notified in October and many have accepted relocation opportunities in either San Jacinto, CA, Cerritos, CA or Olive Branch, Mississippi. The Edelbrock headquarters will transition to the same Olive Branch, Mississippi campus (300,000 sq. ft. facility) that has also housed the Edelbrock global distribution center since early 2020. The transition is expected to be completed by 3/31/21.” The Torrance, California headquarters has been a staple of SoCal’s hot rod community for decades, and the name Edelbrock has been integral to the hot rod and performance scene since Vic Edelbrock Sr opened his first shop in Los Angeles, CA, and has continued with innovative manufacturing and design over the years. Edelbrock built countless relationships with its local customers, often offering shop tours of its facility, hosting it’s own local car show year after year, and venturing out into the neighborhood in test vehicles. Many familiar faces will no longer be seen at the local swap meets and car shows. Following the initial news of the move, social media was flooding with misinformation, some people even claiming the end of Edelbrock which quickly prompted a direct response from Edelbrock’s blog; “EDELBROCK IS NOT DEAD” and a re-post from an article, BangShift Founder, Chad Reynolds, damning the spread of misinformation. “The closure of the Torrance facility is to better align our physical locations with our goal of being a modern, multi-location portfolio of performance aftermarket brands (the Edelbrock Group). The competition for employees is fierce in LA County and land for expansion is very expensive. While it is bittersweet to leave the traditional home of Edelbrock, the transition is leading to millions in investment for our San Jacinto, CA facility that will now manufacture cylinder heads, water pumps and superchargers in addition to being a state of the art aluminum foundry. Edelbrock is one of the most respected automotive performance names in the world and this transition will provide the needed business foundation and scale for upcoming growth/expansion.” said Douglas when asked about Edelbrock’s short and long-term goals. As sad as the move is for LA County residents, Edelbrock is far from dead. In a separate quote, Douglas told PRI, “We’ve got some announcements coming over the next few months that’ll further align us with this goal and get us back to our racing and performance roots, while continuing to serve the passionate hot rod community,” Douglas added. “We want to make sure that Edelbrock remains one of the most respected names in performance for the next generation of enthusiasts.” https://www.racingjunk.com/news/edelbrock-relocating-main-office-to-mississippi

It's the Monday after Valentine's Day and I'm trying to get going. Elizabeth and I had a great weekend. Saturday I changed the oil in my truck and changed my anti -freeze. Did you know auto parts stores and even Walmart will take your oil, but not your anti-freeze? Sunday, Elizabeth and I went exploring for spring Crappie/Bream fishing spots. After some research online we found Byrnes Lake off the Tensaw River north of Mobile and south of Bay Minette, Alabama. Come to find out, its where they filmed the movie Friday the 13th, New Blood…it definitely has that creepy look, but also looks like the fishing would be incredible, we'll let you know. My brother Ken gave me a 14 ft fiberglass boat and sold me a trailer to go with it. The boat is as rough looking as a corn cob, but sound. I have been working with it, taking all the hardware off of it, filling in bolt holes from various attachments over the years, sanding it and building a subfloor with plywood that I will seal in fiberglass and polyurethane before carpeting. The actual floor I will seal with truck bed liner. I have also done extensive work on the boat trailer with hardware and such. In the end it will be a decent, sound fishing boat. I plan to add to the boat a Honda or Yamaha 2025 Horsepower, four stroke - outboard motor with a tiller handle.

My brother Ken has been talking about his dream car, the 1936 Auburn Boat Tail for over 10 years, trying to buy one seriously for two years and he finally found one. They are very expensive even for the replicas. He wanted one with all the modern conveniences and that's what he got. There is a company down in Florida that used to produce 4-5 of these Auburns and Cords per month. He purchased the car and got it to this guy that builds so many of them, to add

Vintage A/C, A hard top and repaint it. My brother wants to keep the two tone paint, but just not this color combination. I'll do a before and after picture hopefully by next month after the car is ready. The ARCA Racing Series returns to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida Saturday February 27, 2021. You watched the cars run at Daytona, you'll see many of the same drivers in Pensacola on the second ARCA MENARDS Series race of their season, for the Pensacola 200. Last year when the ARCA Series came to Five Flags, at the finish there was a three wide race to the checkered flag for the win with the winner winning by only inches. Should be another great event and will be televised. Elizabeth and I will be there to cover the action and we'll write about it next month here in the column.

Oh, by the way Elizabeth and I did celebrate Valentine's Day. Thursday she got a dozen red roses. Sunday morning she got a nice box of Stover's Chocolate and a card. I also got a box of chocolates and a card. Sunday afternoon after finding the fishing spots, we headed to Gulf Shores and a restaurant called Tacky Jacks. A quirky place on the canal where they love colored duct tape. You are encouraged to write your name, date whatever on a piece of colored duct tape and then you find a place to stick it. Ours says Terry Mason & Miss Elizabeth Feb 14, 2021. We are stuck right by the window with a great view where we sat. Saw some that had 2016 on them. We had a giant Nacho's called Mexican Garbage, it was good, we had a great time!

Before I go, please pray for my friend of over 30 years, The King of Duel Exhaust… Bud McQueen! Bud has Covid19, in the hospital; they just moved him to ICU. Prayers for you Bud and family! (pic of Bud & Farrah…Bud McQueen and daughter Farrah) If you have a classic car, you understand it is more than just owning a car, it's about a lifestyle that is so enjoyable, so much fun. So get that car cleaned up and get you out looking in that rearview mirror…enjoying that 17 FOREVER state of mind, it's time to live! Til next month…

Why Electric Vehicles Are Going To Take Over The World By: Enrique Dans Senior Contributor Leadership Strategy Teaching and consulting in the innovation field since 1990

Interesting times in the electric vehicle market, as more and more carmakers try to position themselves in what looks like a second phase of growth. In the luxury market segment, the announced launch of Tesla’s Cybertruck has galvanized a market that, in the United States, buys two million vehicles each year. What at first looked like a prototype of a prototype, has turned out to be a completely revolutionary design that combines a unique-looking vehicle with much lower manufacturing costs than expected. With more than half-a-million orders on its books, the company is now prioritizing its production over the Roadster. The reason is simple: the Roadster appeals to a relatively marginal market and, from a target audience point of view, does not contribute much to the segments in which the brand already had significant appeal, whereas the Cybertruck, if successful, could allow it to dominate a very important and iconic part of the market that is fundamental to achieving mass popularity in a country like the United States. In the economy segment, Volkswagen has announced plans to launch a family of electric vehicles priced at below $22,000, targeting city dwellers and not originally designed for the US, which was originally going to be launched under the Seat brand. Affordable mobility is an important segment that could shift a lot of units. Electric mobility gives car designers much more creative freedom with fewer constraints than traditional vehicles, where pretty much everything has already been invented, and could lead to revolutionary vehicles that look very different to anything we’ve seen so far. Most analysts seem to be saying that this progressive shift to

electricity is an intermediate stage in the transition to a model of mobility as a service based on self-driving vehicles and robotaxis pointing to Intel’s recent acquisition of Moovit on top of the 2017 acquisition of Mobileye and Volvo’s announcement that it will start selling Lidar-equipped autonomous vehicles from 2022. The idea is that more and more of us will prefer to use such services rather than own an underused asset. If the recent pandemic has made one thing clear, it is the potential of the autonomous vehicle. While replacing one urban gridlock with another, made up of electric vehicles, is not the best solution, the pandemic and its restrictions on mobility have opened our eyes to the evils of the internal combustion engine and how air pollution makes us more vulnerable to disease. Even in an anarchic market like India, where many e-rickshaws are unregulated, their use contributes significantly to reducing pollution in cities, and they are gradually becoming more popular. But unless you have a garage where you can recharge it, an electric vehicle is not an attractive proposition, which fits in with the plans of a growing number of cities, which are saying they want to free up space on their post-pandemic streets, questioning the appropriation of public space by private vehicles for parking. Just think how much better life would be if, instead of our streets being lined with unsightly rows of cars, we had room for wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes, public transport or loading and unloading areas. The transition to electric mobility will hit car dealers and their maintenance networks hard, which easily explains why they don’t want to sell them. With growing interest from more market segments and more brands pivoting to direct sales or managing their own fleets, the transition to electric vehicles is speeding up, making them an increasingly reasonable alternative, which is a better outcome for everyone.

This one got to me…..

Andi's Dream By; Kevin Dickey I promised to tell the story of this tribute for Andi Rae Dickey. It is a long one but one that means the world to me. My Daughter would wait at home for me to come in from night shift to ask me to take her to school in the truck. Always excited and leaving me unable to refuse..... A lot of years later and what feels like a lifetime ago… Andi asked if she could have it to rebuild with her boyfriend as a project. I had driven for 20 years and her brother, Kyle Tomes had driven the life out of it. A 1982 C10 with a bad frame is not worth doing, was my answer.... About 9 months later she was killed in a road rage incident by a man named Joe Gumser! Andi's friend Heather Kozisek told me how Andi used to brag the truck was hers and she would drive it one day. That story began the project. Andi's Dream! Her color was lime green and everything on this truck was what I feel she would like. Nothing has been skipped, everything is for her and I hope she likes it. The project keeps me closer to her and the memories every second I'm working on it. She was born in March and I hope to start it for the first time on her birthday. Thanks for taking the time to read all this and live life like Andi did. Love ya, Andi's Poppy!

Road Rage, Some Tips and Observations on How to Prevent It. By: Rex Michaels. Have you ever been cut off while driving, have you been disrespected behind the wheel of your own car, did you take it personal? Road rage probably has happened to you if you have driven any length of time. Sign language and horns blaring are great indicators that someone is upset with your driving, but is it your driving or is it the fact that that person is in control finally or out of control? They have a machine that weighs Thousands of pounds and they are in control, and are not afraid of letting everyone know they are in control, for some it may be the only control they think they have. Their cereal was soggy this morning, coffee didn't taste as good as they had hoped, or didn't wake them up, spouse was grouchy. All this proves is that they think they are not in control of things in their life. Then they climb behind the wheel of their vehicle, they run their hands over the steering wheel, play with the knobs and push buttons; their own little fiefdom, I am in charge inside these doors they say to themselves, flashing lights and loud horns, all mine at the click or touch of a button. Look out everyone, I do have the power to make you cringe, I can make you boiling mad, I can make you wish you never got out of bed this morning; I am relevant in this world and I am ready to prove it. Road rage; no one is mad at the road, they are mad at the lack of control. With a little common sense on your part you can prevent a simple hand gesture or blaring horn from morphing into a dangerous situation. You know you need to turn right at the next street, does everyone else know? You are on the cell phone, you may be scanning for a good radio station, you are distracted, and you need to turn right. You forget your turn signal, the car waiting to get out feels slighted because if they knew you were turning they think they could have saved a split second of waiting by pulling out knowing you were turning. Did I mention the car behind you? They are mad too, many would just mark it down as one of those things. Who are the ones that have to let you know, that you and only you ruined their day, they lay on the horn, they show you they know sign language, did you do something wrong or did they? Who are they, and who are you? How can we change others behavior, and do we even want to change them, does changing your own behavior change theirs? You are in the grocery store, and you cut off someone with your cart, did they curse you and threaten to run you and your cart into the green bean display? Did they use hand gestures to let you know of their frustrations? I doubt they did, but one can never tell, but unlikely anything like that would happen. So why do people do stupid and dangerous things when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle? I taught a lot of classes in the Military, after reaching a certain rank you where expected to pass on your wisdom and experience to others. First lesson was never assume anything, teach everyone at the same level. This

means that you simply will fail if you assume everyone knows what you know. Many times you will state the obvious but someone in the ranks will benefit from it, because they were never exposed to that information or simply didn't have the life experience that would introduce them to that information, not stupid but lacked information, they can be taught; it is up to you. No one knows you are changing lanes without your signal on, no one knows you are late for work and trying to make up lost time by beating the car next to you through the light. We need to stop driving for our own benefit, and start driving for the benefit of others, defensive driving is the best way in my opinion to help prevent road rage, or at least cut down on the frequency that it is directed at you. Yes I know, you ask why does it have to be me? They need to change, well think about what you just said. You both need to change, but you have no control over them, you do have control over yourself. By changing your own behavior you may change theirs, and have it end up in the positive column. Again never assume they know what you are doing, they may not even know what they are doing for that matter, so what to do? Drive defensively, help yourself and in turn help everyone else. You simply can not know how the driver in front of you may react, tailgating is a dangerous and costly lesson in predicting behavior. They may brake hard if they even suspect a car will not stop at an intersection that has access to the highway, they may over react and you are up their bumper without a paddle. Even been behind someone, a tad to close? They swerve quickly, because you are so close you do not realize why they swerved. They did it to miss a rock, a piece of lumber, or an animal, what happens next? You know what happens next; you where there. Do not make other drivers responsible for you being late for work, leave early, or earlier, always consider things like traffic, weather, what if I get a flat, pre-planning will soon be second nature, and will never be a burden. No one else follows the law you say, they speed, they never signal, they roll through stop signs. So this makes it OK for you to do the same? You know better, know the rules, follow the rules, signal lane changes, signal that your turning on to another street. Do not pass just to get ahead of the car in front of you just so you have to brake hard at the stop sign, only to have the one you passed right on your bumper, show some restraint, ask yourself is it worth it? Distractions; most people will not intentionally break the law, the problem is they are distracted by cell phones and radios, and some even eat while driving. So distracted they do not even realize they did anything wrong until they hear brakes screeching and horns' blaring; or hear the crunch of metal. Gone are the days of driving for recreation, driving is work and requires all of your attention behind the wheel. Lets face it, tickets and fender benders cost money, slow down, pay attention and be courteous to others, and save yourself some money. Life is fraught with dangers, a mistake with a Two Thousand pound hunk of metal does not leave much room for a do over, and sadly many times no room at all. Slow down, think, use common sense, and ask yourself; is it worth the stress, or will a smile and a wave get you down the road faster?

March 17th St. Patrick's Day By Candy Cocktail When you think of St. Patrick's Day, you probably think of green beer and everyone talking about how Irish they suddenly are. It is the one day each year that everyone calls themselves Irish - if not by birthright, then in spirit. According to BBC, a huge number of Americans with Irish heritage is the reason the holiday is so popular in America. It is one of my favorite days of the year! For the holiday that dominates all others occurring in the month of March, St. Patrick's Day is a favorite, even among those that are not actually Irish. 90% of Americans celebrate the holiday. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other single-day national festival, largely due to America's enthusiasm for what many consider a holiday, although it is not an official holiday in the US. It is estimated that seventy million people worldwide have Irish ancestry and only 6.5 million of them live in Ireland! In the 1800s, many Irish immigrants came to America, including my great, great grandfather, as the Irish were suffering persecution at the hands of the British. Irish Catholics were restricted from owning land and voting and the standard of living for most Irish was extremely low, which was worsened by the potato famine between 1845 and 1852. As an essential part of the Irish diet, it was devastating when a fungal disease called potato blight spread across the country wiping out the potato crop, causing many to die or leave the country with America as the main destination. At that time, some Americans viewed Irish immigrants as violent and disease-ridden and accused them of stealing their jobs. This led to widespread discrimination against Irish citizens in the USA. It was common to see signs banning Irish people from entering certain buildings, or jobs discouraging Irish applicants. In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day was a modest day of religious observance and a special feast. So with ill treatment in a new country, Irish Catholics in America decided to throw huge, proud parties on the 17th of March to celebrate their heritage and show pride. Three leaf clovers are symbolic of the holiday because they were used by St. Patrick to explain the Catholic holy trinity. The leaves also symbolize hope, love and faith and “The rebirth of spring.” It is estimated there are about 10,000 regular 3-leaf clovers for every one four-leaf clover. And if you find that bonus leaf making a clover a 4-leaf clover, just enjoy the extra good luck it brings.

Before the 1800s, leprechauns were described as wearing red suits instead of green ones. This changed in the late 1700s when an Irish poet named William Allingham wrote about a leprechaun dressed in green and the image stuck. Leprechauns in Ireland even have their very own unofficial holiday on May 13. The traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage, is not actually an Irish meal. Pork, particularly bacon, was actually the preferred meat of Ireland. However, early Irish immigrants living in America found that beef was cheaper so it took the place of pork. So our traditional holiday dish was actually modified by the first Irish Americans. Inexpensive beer in the U.S. is often dyed green for the holiday, which can be traced back to 1910. It ballooned in popularity during the '50s, and is now common at bars. However, do not say St. Patty's Day on the 17th. Patty is from the name 'Patricia' where as 'Paddy' is from 'Padraig,' so St. Paddy's Day is the proper abbreviation. Nationaltoday.com described how the Catholic Church first recognized March 17 as a feast day commemorating Ireland's best-known and most beloved patron saint, Saint Patrick, in 1631. St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in Ireland for more than 1000 years. Although the manner of celebration has changed over the decades. Originally St. Patrick's Day, or Feast Day, saw the lifting of Lent restrictions just for the day, giving Christians a breather as they made their way to the holiday of Easter. It was one day to cut loose, occurring in the middle of the 40 day observance, during the Catholic observed season of Lent, which for Catholics is a period of personal asceticism to represent an individual sacrifice and abstinence from alcohol for 40 days, the time that Jesus spent wandering the desert. As the fasting is lifted for the day, it encourages consumption of Irish food and drink, making it known as a “drinking holiday.” Fentoninprint stated that the Irish holiday focuses on the celebration of the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later returned and is credited with bringing Christianity to the people of Ireland. Saint Patrick, born as Maewyn Succat before becoming ordained, established monasteries, churches, and schools. The legend surrounding Saint Patrick is prominent in Irish culture. He died on March 17 around the year of 461. The Irish people were predominantly pagan and druidic at the time. Patrick baptized thousands of people. From life hacker.com, some estimate over 100,000, ordained new priests, guided women to nunhood, converted the sons of kings in the region, and aided in the formation of over 300 churches. Popular legend says that Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland however there were never actually snakes as they are not native to Ireland. St. Patrick's Day is a celebration held every year on March 17. Originally a religious feast day (the "Feast of Saint Patrick", the foremost patron saint of Ireland), it has developed into a celebration of Irish heritage and culture. The day for good luck and wearing green, shamrocks and drinking, became an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century. Observed not only by Irish people, additionally Catholic, Anglican, Eastern Orthodox and Lutheran churches all observe the religious holiday. We wear green for more than protection from pinching fingers. Dating back to the Irish Rebellion, Irish soldiers wore green as they fought off the British in their trademark red. Until then, the color associated with St. Patrick was actually blue. Green became synonymous with the holiday in the 18th century when the shamrock became the national symbol. Stated on Almanac.com, St. Patrick's Day is the traditional day for

planting peas, even in the snow! Cabbage seeds are often planted too, and old-time farmers believed that to make them grow well, you needed to plant them while wearing your nightclothes! Having a family name beginning with “O” or “Mac” is a telltale sign of Irishness that many early Irish Americans dropped from their name to avoid prejudice. Surnames beginning with “O'” are still among the most common, meaning “the grandson of” or “descendant of.” Even icon Marilyn Monroe was forced to change her Irish surname of Dougherty at the request of 20th Century Fox, according to Irishcentral.com. Surprisingly, the first St. Patrick's Day parade did not take place in Ireland. In 1737, Boston held the first parade. Boston is still home to one of the biggest and most spirited parades in the world. It was followed by a New York parade in 1766. Then Ireland finally got their own celebration in Waterford, Ireland, but it was not until 1903. In 1931, the iconic city of Dublin got their own parade. Cities with large numbers of Irish immigrants, like Chicago, NYC and Boston, held the most extravagant celebrations. About a million enthusiastic people attend the Boston parade yearly. The popularity of the holiday skyrocketed and even Japan, Australia, Dubai, Brazil and Russia now celebrate the Irish day with festivities.

And if you are anywhere in the northeast in March, you can bet you will hear "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldf7T6TlV-o The Irish punk rock band is a favorite of mine, that tours the country every March. Last year, as the then novel covid virus turned our world upside down, they decided to live stream their concert for everyone quarantined in place of their usual sold out shows. This year, they will again feature a virtual concert celebration to accommodate what has become our new normal. The “Still Locked Down” event will live stream at 7 pm Boston time on March 17, 2021. Irish varieties of beer are favorites on the holiday. Guinness told USA Today that roughly 3 million pints of it are drunk on the holiday, up from 600,000 on a normal day. Ireland's most iconic beer, Guinness, is also a great additive for baking, braising, adding to sauces, stew, or even a tasty Bloody Mary! So grab a shamrock shake, a pint of Guinness and wear your green to celebrate. As a pale, freckled faced Irish Catholic, I celebrate in big ways with my family every year prior to covid. I will be celebrating, even if I am celebrating from home. When they first came to America, the Irish were rejected and despised. Now everyone wants to be Irish on St. Patrick's Day. However, us Irish welcome anyone who wants to celebrate; The more Irish on St. Patrick's Day, the merrier! Erin go Bragh!

In 1948, U.S. President Harry S. Truman attended New York City's first St. Patrick's Day parade, helping to fight racial prejudice against Irish immigrants. In 2020 the world's largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City was cancelled because of the global COVID-19 pandemic for the first time in its 259-year history.

Candy Cocktail

Landmarks like the Empire State Building, the Colosseum in Rome and the iconic London Eye turn green annually for the holiday. Rivers are dyed emerald hues, including the Tampa river where I live and the Chicago river has been dyed with 40 pounds of green powder since 1962.

Chase rolling out for the first ever practice in his MB Customs race car!

2/15/21 Welcome back everyone!!! This month has flown by! We have been hustling to get the new car ready to drop off with Cade Dillard, to have him and his crew set it up and get it race ready! The whole family traveled to Many, LA where we met Cade and crew. We left our hotrod with them and Chase and I went back 2 weeks later to pick it up and test it out! Cade scheduled a private practice session at his local speedway with us and 5 or 6 other teams that he helps. The forecast was clear all week for the practice date, and on the morning of, we were all surprised with a soaker storm that popped up! With most teams traveling 5 or more hours, we all decided to try and get the practice in regardless of the wet conditions! The track was good enough to make laps but too sloppy to get any usable data about our new car! Chase was able to shake it down and make some laps which was exciting! Cade and his team adjusted on the car a little and the car reacted positively to those adjustments, however, we all agreed that we didn't want to tune on it too much because the track conditions were far from what we would ever race on normally! Chase made about 4-5 rounds of practice and Cade made 1 round of practice in our car. Cade came in and basically told me that our car was lacking on horsepower and the engine seemed lazy! This was a kick in the gut for me because as y'all know I am all in on the “money eater” and it's the most powerful engine we've ever owned! I didn't know what to say… Cade came back later and said that he had run into a problem with some headers before and the symptoms were identical to the problems he was feeling with our engine. He asked if we ran a 4-7 swap camshaft. We don't…he then asked if those were 4-7 swap headers? I didn't know the answer for sure because those headers came with our car. Cade called the previous owner and sure enough those were 4-7 swap headers. On traditional headers this wouldn't matter, but since these were specifically designed “tri-y” headers they are designed to pair certain cylinders together at certain places. If they are not matched to the proper firing order/camshaft then they will create a lazy bog condition! Looking back now it makes sense, because we raced the “money eater” in the final race of 2020 in the Hughes car and turned the engine 8400 rpms. We couldn't get the engine to turn

Chase and “the Thriller” Cade Dillard

over 7500 rpm on this wet track even after adding 30 points of gear, the rpms went down! We agreed that even though this practice wasn't the greatest for tuning our new chassis it was WELL worth it because who knows how long we would've been running the engine like this if Cade hadn't diagnosed it for us! We made the journey back home, and as I'm typing, we are preparing for the 2021 season opener! We are very excited to see what this season brings! I don't remember if I told y'all yet, but we are registered to run the Bristol Dirt National Race! (March 15-20) This is exciting and scary at the same time! Yes it's a huge track… YES I know we will be going really fast…There has been so many negative remarks made to me about us going to this event! Trust me when I say we are not going there expecting to break the track record! We are going for the experience, and with hopes and goals of making the big show! You got to have goals, right? We have all of our camping spots and pit passes reserved and we are very excited! Thank y'all for reading and stay tuned for more details! Until next time…Chavus Be sure to check out our Facebook page for more details and videos on our Facebook page. Also search YOUTUBE for Chase Holland Racing!

The ol’ 39 By: Jimbo - Photos by AdPix.Biz The interesting thing about this 1939 Ford it once was mine. Like some of you I had just to many projects, not enough time and a complete lack of funds to get it done. Such was the case of the 1939 Ford I bought from a friend. The ol’ 39 had been sitting in a container out of the weather for years and was actually in fair condition. (for someone who could fabricate, weld, do body work and had a vision) I had a vision but that was about the extent of my expertise. Well I held on to the car for a year and realized if I wasn’t going to do anything with it, I had to pass it on. So I placed an ad in MotorSports.. I got a call from Dan Tackett, he had Gasser fever. The Geezer Gasser’s was calling to his interest and this ol’ 39 was just what he needed. Originally from Colorado the car came to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and parked in someone's back yard to wait to be rescued. The 39 soon filled up with lawn & garden fertilizer, chickens, and what ever else needed to be kept out of sight. That was till our local NSRA safety inspector took his rollback to the rescue. Here was a pre-49, and a potential street rod just waiting for the right people to come along. The car was in fair condition, it was all there and the deal was made. Soon the car was loaded up and rolling down the highway to a new home. It was in a storage container where I first saw the “thing of beauty” My imagination was soon running away with thoughts of the finished project. Only problem was my wallet wasn’t keeping up.. That’s when I knew it was time to let go.

Dan built my 29 Ford in 2004, a daily driver street rod that I still drive. So it was no surprise when he told me he wanted to build a “gasser” and go to the track. Soon the ‘39 had a complete makeover. After framework, safety work, body work, Dan stuffed in a 40 over 392 Hemi with 4 bolt main, Vinolia forged 8-1 pistons, billet aluminum rods, MSD, custom built & matched carbs for the 671 blower in front of the JW Bell powerglide turning the 9” 456 spool rear. Stopping power was supplied by the Wildwoods all around. Yep this 1939 Ford has a new life and attracts attention wherever it goes. Powerful off the line, loud and heart thumping as it passes by you can’t help yourself thinking what if.. Soon the “Red Devil” will once again be loaded into a container and head to it’s new home in Pennsylvania. Now this 1939 Ford is a true Street Rod. It will be driven on the highway, make a few passes at the local dragstrips, attend car shows, all the things I had envisioned. I might not be behind the wheel but I can’t help smiling as l look at what a few guys will do to save the images from our past and pass them along. I asked Miss Emelia to pose with the car. There is a certain kind of attitude this “Gasser” brings to the street and it is all about survival... I have one piece of advise to pass on to your readers. “Never give up, and work hard on the things in life that make you smile. Believe in yourself !! . ….. Miss Emelia.
