“Joel, what if I try it and it doesn’t work out?” What if you try and it does work out? What if you take that step of faith and you go to a new level? What if it thrusts you further than you’ve imagined? What if you discover you can do what you’ve never done, you can walk, you can lead, you can live free and whole? Don’t let the "what ifs" talk you out of your destiny. Turn them around. What if God shows up and favors you, what if doors open you never dreamed would open, what if you beat that addiction after all these years? Here’s the key, if you never try, you’re never going to know. God is going to make a way where you don’t see a way. He is not just a way maker; He is the way. He can create what you need. That’s why He’s called the great I AM. “I AM whatever you need. I AM favor, I AM breakthroughs, I AM healing, I AM abundance.” God knows what’s in you; He knows what you’re capable of. He’s not going to let fear hold you back. He’s not going to let the negative things people have spoken over you keep you from moving forward. He’s not going to let how you were raised, what you didn’t get, keep you from becoming who He created you to be. You may have been in the waiting room for a long time. You’ve seen other people accomplish dreams, get married, move into their house. That’s great, be happy for them, but the reason it’s taking a long time for you is because you’re not carrying something small. God’s about to open a door that you didn’t see coming. What you’re going to give birth to is going to surprise people: a ministry, a dream, a business that will touch the world. You’re going to go further than you thought, make a greater impact than you dreamed. That’s why you’ve been in the waiting room so long. There’s a price to pay to become all you were created to be. If it were easy, everybody would do it. It takes people that have a made up mind. “I’m going to honor God. I’m not going to compromise and take shortcuts that aren’t ethical. I’m not going to push people down to get an advantage. I’m not going be dishonest to get ahead. I’m not going to be sloppy in my financial dealings. I’m going to be a person of integrity, trustworthy, honorable.” Those are the kind of people God rewards. Isaiah said, “When you feed the hungry, when you clothe the naked, when you help those in need, then your light will break forth like the dawn and your health will quickly come.” Too often, we’re waiting for the light to break forth. We’re waiting for the promotion, the healing, the new level, but the question is, “Have we done the first part? Have we served anyone? Have we been a blessing?”

Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so scarce that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch one. The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. “Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you for $35 each, and when the man returns from

the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.” The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere! Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works. Health tip…. Here is how I avoid the Flu. Eat right! Make sure you get your daily dose of fruits and veggies. Take your vitamins and bump up your vitamin C. Get plenty of exercise because exercise helps build your immune system. Walk for at least an hour a day, go for a swim, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. Wash your hands often. If you can't wash them, keep a bottle of antibacterial stuff around. Get lots of fresh air. Open doors &windows whenever possible. Try to eliminate as much stress from your life as you can. Get plenty of rest. OR … Take the doctor's approach. Think about it… When you go for a shot, what do they do first? They Clean your arm with alcohol… Why? Because Alcohol KILLS GERMS. So....... I walk to the liquor store. (exercise) I put lime in my Corona...(fruit) Celery in my Bloody Mary (veggies) Drink outdoors on the bar patio.. (fresh air) Tell jokes, laugh....(eliminate stress) Then pass out. (rest) The way I see it… If you keep your alcohol levels up, flu germs can't get you! My grandmother always said, "A shot in the glass is better than one in the ass!" Here are some of my emails …. Dear Jimbo: God bless you for donating the beautiful radio I received at our recent senior citizen's luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at the Safety Harbor Assisted Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away, and I am alone now. It is so nice to know someone thinks of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old lady. My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio, but she would never let me listen to it, even when she was napping. The other morning her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears all day. When I got back from the luncheon with my radio, she asked me if she could listen to it, and I told her to kiss my ass. Thank you for that opportunity. Mildred Simpson Dear Mildred, shame on you.. You led me to believe that you were a sweet little ol’ lady.. Now I’m going to come back and pick you up in my street rod and we are going for a cruise. I got a couple of buddies I want you to meet. Jimbo, I stopped by my favorite watering hole for a couple of well earned beers after a hard days work. I couldn't help but over-hear two young guys in their mid-twenties while sitting at the bar. One of the guys says to his buddy, "Man you look tired.” His buddy says, “Man I'm exhausted. My girlfriend and I have sex all the time. She's after me 3 and 4 times a day, and I just don't know what to do." A fellow about my age (70+), sitting a couple of stools down from him, also overheard the conversation. He looked over at the two young men, and with the wisdom of his years says, “Marry her. That'll put a stop to that nonsense." bsears@ Jimbo, THOUGHT YOU WOULD GET A QUICK SMILE The Queens Riddle Nancy Pelosi met with the Queen of England. She asked her, “Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government? Are there any tips you can give to me?” “Well,” said the Queen, “The most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people.” Pelosi frowned, and then asked, “But how do I know the people around me are really intelligent?” The Queen took a sip of tea. “Oh, that ’ s easy: you just ask them

Finally, Biden ran in to Sarah Palin out eating one night. Biden asked, Sarah, can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and it’s not your brother or you sister. Who is it?” Sarah Palin answered right back, “That’s easy, it’s me!” Biden smiled , and said, “Thanks!” Then he went back to speak with Pelosi. “Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. It's Sarah Palin.” Pelosi got up, stomped over to Biden, and angrily yelled into his face. “ No you idiot! It’s Boris Johnson!” AND, THAT IS PRECISELY WHAT WILL BE GOING ON IN THE WHITE HOUSE FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS!!! Mike L I’ll leave you with this………. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
God, I want more of You. Too often, I choose to pursue momentary things and push You aside. Please forgive me, and change me. I don’t want to live a life that isn’t focused on You. As I prepare for Resurrection Sunday, help me to silence the noise in my life. Show me what steps I need to take to refocus my heart, mind, and will on You alone. Search my heart, and know me. Clean out my life, point out anything that offends You, and make me more like You. Show me the paths that lead to life, and fill me with joy in Your presence. My trip to the Mardi Gras races at Gulfport Dragway was a bust, cold front, rain, and frigid temps kept me from going. I did however register in my first car show of the year at the Ladies Auxiliary VFW car show. There was a good crowd, some good food and a nice day for fun with cars. The following week I attended the 23rd edition of the Gnat Nationals, another quite successful event. Beautiful day and tons of nice cars and trucks. Glad to see so many in attendance at this one too. My adventures in the Carriage House have also heated up a good bit. I made and am making some excellent progress on the seat install as well as a few other loose ends inside the cab. Also mocked up a couple of revisions to a plenum of sorts to run an oldstyle Cadillac air cleaner setup. Presently it needs to be cut out of some aluminum sheet, folded and tigged up. Confidence is high that we may be able to take a spin in the neighborhood shortly. I have requested my grandson Chase to come up and help me on his next available weekend. Would like him to be here as we take its maiden voyage. I have also been once again tinkering with the Old Shovel head project. It is finally getting some much needed and deserved attention. Bought a few more necessary items to help it too make motor noises also. I sure would like to make that happen in a few more months, and with some luck maybe take it for a neighborhood spin. This poor machine has just been sitting for the past several years in the Carriage House, being shuffled out of the way as we were working on the Big Truck Project. As it too gets closer to

completion, I will share a few pictures. The Carriage house is slowly being emptied of parts being stored, because they are slowly being installed on the bike and the Big Truck project. I am looking forward to an almost normal car show season, lots of events are once again being scheduled. I am ready, as I am sure many of you are too. My next adventure in fun with cars will be this month at the Atomic Blast at Gulfport Dragway. I always have one too when I get the chance to attend. Looking forward to see all of the folks having fun with cars and trucks and seeing all of the wild creations popping tires and burning fossil fuels up and down the track. May not have the Old truck there but the new toy will be in attendance. Doing these hotrod builds from almost nothing, are quite challenging and I must admit rather frustrating at times. Yes, it has taken me a long time on this project and I am still not done, but thus far I have not once said its time to give up. Just can't do it with this one. This truck was given to me by the owner with the confidence in me that I would bring it back to life and on the road, and I just can't break that confidence. There is a saying that I like to use, If it was easy everybody would do it, and that is the truth. Nothing about trying to resurrect or restore these old hunks of iron is easy. But it is what many of us do. Just glad I am still able to do the things I do, and have the vision to pull some of this off. I usually don't partake in April Fools pranks, I do however take seriously the events leading up to and the Easter Sunday, with that, I would like to wish you all a blessed Easter or Resurrection Sunday and remind you it was not about a bunny and candy eggs. We'll this month we made it out to a couple of the early year shows. We started with the 9th Annual VFW show in Bay St Louis. This one is for the Veterans and always a nice show. They had over 70 cars/trucks come out to support the Veterans. Cindy, Bobby, Mike and the VFW Crew did a great job. The show gets bigger and better each year.
The next Show up for us was the 23rd Annual Gnat Nationals car show hosted by the Misfits Street Krewzers. This one was held at a new location this year in Waveland at St Clare's Catholic Church right off the Beach. The Misfits had just under 200 register cars/ trucks come out to support CASA and the Hancock County Senior citizens org. I've got to say they have some of the best food around each year at this event. Make y'alls plans to attend these two next year.
The Cruise ins/Shows are starting to come back this Spring/ Summer and more are getting added each weekend. Hope to see everybody out safely enjoying the events and family/friends that are starting to come back out. Remember to watch for our friends out riding their bikes. And like I've been writing/saying for years in this column "Just Cruise". See y'all somewhere or everywhere…. Allen

I’m So Thankful I Had A Childhood Before Technology Took Over! Sometimes I close my eyes and see the place I lived when I was young. I can see my grandma in the kitchen cooking on the wood stove, making cherry pies, and frying chicken. Oh, the magnificent aromas that filled the house! These memories, I am told, are nostalgic. I looked up nostalgia because I was not sure I knew exactly what it meant. I found several different definitions. One said it was “a yearning for the return of past circumstances or events”. It was a great time in my life, but I am not certain I would want to re-live all of it. There are things I have forgotten on purpose. One definition said it was “a longing for a return to home or family”. That certainly was not it for me. This definition came close with: “a feeling of pleasure and also slight sadness when you think about things that happened in the past”. The trouble with that definition is that it makes me remember what my Dr. said one time about me not being a spring chicken. The one that fits me the best, I believe, is:” Nostalgia is an affectionate feeling you have for the past, especially for a particularly happy time”. I dusted off the hot rod this week and went for a spin. My reasoning was that it was necessary to take a drive to prevent the tires from flat-spotting after being parked in the garage for a couple of months. As I drove, I was enjoying driving the old car so much that I kept going further and further from home. The more I drove, the more I began to think about the past. Music was critical to driving a car in those days. It still is in my street rod. We went cruising with the radio blasting through the spring reverb, singing with the music, and maybe having an 8-track tape player in the car. Driving slowly down long, straight streets, preferably with many traffic lights to increase opportunities to talk to other cruisers or pedestrians or girls, was only one part of cruising. Cruisers would also gather at empty parking lots or driveins. Cruisers back in the 60’s were like moths and June bugs, always drawn to brightly lighted areas. Cruising was my favorite when I was young, and one particular time came to mind. We had cruised to the Big Boy on Crawfordsville Road, and while driving through I spotted a particularly attractive young lady, and she smiled at me. Well, truth is, she could have been smiling at
anyone, but I felt she was looking at me. I was in the back seat of Dave Kersey’s convertible. We left and were making our usual rounds of another Big Boy, then The Pole drive-in before reversing and doing it all over again. I could not keep my mind off of the girl I

saw at our first stop. When we returned to the Big Boy, she was still there. I hopped out of the car and went over to talk to her. The evening got better and better. I don’t need to finish my story, because you all have similar stories of your own. We didn’t really know we were making memories, we were just having fun and enjoying our freedom. Cars, girls, and Rock n’ Roll…that was life back in my youth, Parents and school were just inconveniences. It was our attitude that we had our cars and our freedom. There was no correct way to meet anybody. A car full of girls would connect with a car full of guys, they would pull over and talk. Everyone looked for romance, though usually it did not occur. We kept chasing them but catching them was not all that easy. Still there was the chase, the music, the cars, and the clothes. Do you remember when the penny loafers, madras, and Levis were all the rage? We had social distancing back then, too, so this is not a new thing that started in 2020. No one wanted to ride with their parents. Carhops delivered food to your ride on trays that hooked onto car door glass. We could stay in our cars and enjoy our grub. The food was incredible! The drive I took brought all sorts of memories. Every morning at school we said “The Pledge of Allegiance to The Flag”. Every morning I would count my classmates to see which paragraph I was going to have to read out loud. We stood at attention and sang the Star Spangled Banner. We worked in the community. Some rebellious boys wore steel half-moon taps on the heels of their saddle oxfords that would scrape and clack against any solid surface, driving parents and teachers crazy. The taps were not just for sound: letting the metal drag along the roadway while riding your bike produced a spark shower to rival New Years at midnight. Let me tell you what I think this was all about. Sparks were cool, but taps were just another creative way to cheese off the man with some new hooliganism. These kids were no longer the silent rebel, but a tap-shoed ruffian. Taps were soon outlawed in schools. Back then they did not call it a behavioral disorder, they called it being a brat. Lots of things creep into my mind about the past. Mostly I think about the simplicity of that era. High tech was for N.A.S.A. and outer space. Cars were simple to repair, most things were made out of metal so they were not throw-aways, songs were simple, and we had a lot more freedom. I don’t know about you, but I feel like we are losing our freedoms by leaps and bounds, and I am not happy about it. I hope all of you are healthy and doing well. The present times are really stressful. I like thinkin’ about the past, or nostalgia as I learned it is called. Uncle Ezra says: “Nostalgia: how long has that been around”?

begins around 7:30am til so please come join us. Cars, trucks, good food, sunshine and people made our March Edwards Drugs Cruise In a success. Over 35 cars participated this month, and everyone felt like things were beginning to return to normal (thank goodness). Most all car restorers know everything does not always go as planned. Sometimes your plans can go awry. Take for instance Tony Smith's recent catastrophe with his Ford truck and its rebuilt engine. (I will do my best to relate this unusual sequence of events.) Tony and his friends decided to crank the new engine and in doing so knocked the coil wire off. Realizing it, they quickly reconnected the wire; next came the very loud backfire. Suddenly, the formerly sweet-sounding engine began making weird clacking sounds. Tony ended up pulling the head to find a piston had separated from the wrist pin. He replaced the piston and one bent valve and put it all back together. Guess what, it is still making weird CLACKING sounds! What's next Tony??? Jim Parnell drove over from Wilmer in his 1953 Chevy pickup. He has been working on this restoration for 3 years. This 6-cylinder truck is all stock. He did add an extra carburetor. He has another pick up at home, it's a '50 Dodge. Jim has not been in the car hobby business for long. He began 6 years ago. Not sure he realized how involved it can get or hard the collection bug will hit him. He has another hobby - making knives. He can make specialty and standard use knives. Jim stays busy.
A newcomer to the breakfast was Lee Denmark driving this '57 Chevy with a 350 and another essential, cold air. Lee bought this car as is. He also has a '97 Vette at home. He's new to the hobby, less than 2 years in. I asked Lee what brought him into this sometimes-expensive hobby and said his buddies influenced him. Glad you came and shared this piece of history.
This 1938 Ford Special Deluxe owner is NOT new to the car hobby. This 283 small block Chevy engine with a 350 transmission, 308 ten bolt rear end hot rod belongs to none other than Mickey Smith, one of those Alabama boys. Mickey always surprises us with an occasional outstanding new ride and this '38 is no exception. By the way Mickey any relation to Tony and if so, were you present when his fiasco occurred.

Gold & Silver Colored Eggs Only a few days until Easter, but pushing 83 or 84, I have a tendency to forget important dates, so I'm gonna post this memory of a day gone by! As a child, I can only remember one or two Easter's that left a big impression on me, and the following was one of those times. Starting in 1948, every Easter, the West Side Nut Club would sponsor an Easter egg hunt, and I'll never forget my first hunt. It left an indelible mark on my memory, as it did on a great many children. I was a resident of the Hillcrest Orphanage at the time, and on the noon of the big day, the orphanage matrons walked us children, big, little, and small, down to partake in the Easter Day festivities. Before the hunt commenced, the organizers would line the children up in age groups. With the youngest in front, so on and so forth. While we're standing at the ready line, waiting for the whistle to blow, we could see hundreds of colored eggs nestled in the grass. But before the whistle blew signaling the start, the organizers told the children that amongst those multi-colored eggs, was also a gold and silver one that contained money. Whoever found those two eggs would receive a cash prize of $10 for the gold and $5 for the silver. Well, you can imagine what it looked like when they blew the whistle signaling the start of the hunt. It resembled the 1889 Oklahoma land rush, as hundreds of children, big, little, and small, with paper bags and baskets in hand, all with one thought in their minds, took off. Talk about mayhem. Children that only moments ago had been mild-mannered little tykes were now money-hungry, greedy little grubbers. Those multi-colored eggs that were near the starting line never had a chance, as they were trampled in a wave of fortune-hunting children. Only the little children, four, five, or six years old; the ones that had no idea about what $5.00 could buy, were interested in the eggs that were close to the starting line. But when they stooped over to pick them up, they were overrun by the older kids. It was like a giant kid tsunami, as the older ones washed over, the younger. After the hunt, the grass that at one time had been green was now trampled and littered with broken multi-colored eggshells, plus little children that were crying for their mothers. To my knowledge, they never announced who had found the gold and silver colored eggs, if found they were. Sorry to say, I never found them! Sadly I was no richer when I returned to the orphanage than I was when I left. But this experience prepared me for all future egg hunts or any activity for that matter that involved money and children. It taught me a valuable lesson. And that was to never stoop over in a stampeding crowd of money hungry children to pick up anything, not even a gold or silver-colored egg. Jim Said That!

10 Years Wow, just wow. Where did the time go? We cruise along in life, everything going well and we look around and we are old. I’m talking old, old. Where did the time go? Getting old is something that comes very fast. All kidding aside, it has been a tremendous honor and privilege to write this column for 10 years. It has been a great outlet for keeping my sanity and I am so honored with all of you that take the time to read and follow mine and Elizabeth’s exploits. It still catches us off guard when we meet a reader at a car show that starts telling us stuff we’ve done or asking us about stuff we’ve done and then it hits us, they read the column. So thank you, thank you so very much. After the first column I wondered how in the world I could do a second, now 120 columns later, wow, seems like yesterday! Rob Cole did a great job on the magazine cover shot. Thank you Jimbo Perkins for the honor of being on the cover!
We got to Panama City Beach, FL got setup at the show and checked into to the Palmetto Inn. We were on the 5th floor overlooking the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches, with an incredible view and the sunset into the Gulf each afternoon. We setup in a brand new spot at the show and it worked out well. Better coverage with the music, better traffic and shade! We loved it. The weather was great and being the first big car event of 2021, I just knew it was going to be a great show and it was. Day 1 Thursday, Terry Mason’s Hot Rod Show played from 8 AM until 5 PM. The Thursday crowd was awesome and the cars came driving in. We kicked off the show with our Grand Opening ceremonies and our Veteran’s Tribute. We started the Mega 50/50 and set the

pace for the rest of the show. Thursday night it was the Flame Throwing Contest at Hammerhead Fred’s. Elizabeth and I met my brother Ken and wife Linda at Dusty’s for raw oysters, they were good and salty. Day 2, Friday we began our Hot Rod Show at 8 AM and played until 1 PM. I then went on stage and introduced my good friend Todd Allen Herendeen and his popular God and Country Show. After Todd’s performance I had a chance to interview our main attraction Scott Innes, the Hanna Barbara charater voice of Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, 25 Hanna Barbara voices since 1997. Scott was an incredible interview and I felt I kept up well with him. I heard his manager tell Miss Elizabeth that interview was the best ever given with Scott, made me feel good. Scott could literally have his own conversation with five different voices. The man has a gift. It started as him just being a kid that did those voices, when Hanna Barbara heard them, Scott beat out 80 other voices that were auditioning for the parts. We also had Tech 101 classes with the Motor Trend Network “Tech Garage” guys John Gardner and Josh Ellis. The Mega 50/50 topped $3,000 and Friday’s attendance doubled Thursday so I knew Saturday would be awesome. At the end of Day 2 Elizabeth and I were exhausted. We went straight to Sharky’s, had dinner, a hot tub back at the hotel for our aching muscles and straight to bed, 6 AM and our biggest show day was ahead. Day 3, the crowd started pouring in at 8 AM. By 10 AM the place was starting to fill up. At 10 we kicked the show off with our Saturday Veteran’s Tribute, where we honored each Veteran as we asked each of them their name, service and town they were from, over 50 easy, maybe closer to 100 veterans. We played the National Anthem and kicked off the show. There were easily over 15,000 spectators, every one of them with big ole smiles on their faces. I think everyone was proud to be out of their caves with fun in front of them. We did another interview with Scott Innes, Scott really was impressed by the size and fun of the show. He wants to

come back. Sam Memmolo of Sam’s Garage also joined us and the Tech Guys on Saturday. Scott Haggard, son of the legendary Merle Haggard took the stage at noon, followed by Steven Phillips and Midnight Express. At 2 PM the guy that replaced Waylon Jennings in the Waylon Jennings Band, Tommy Townsend took the stage. All the live music was good. The crowd was incredible.
Oh and we did make it to the ARCA race at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola for the Pensacola 200, presented by Inspectra, on February 27. 18 Sammy Smith after coming up short in the ARCA East season opener at New Smyrna got his first win in the series in only his 2nd ARCA start. Smith won the pole and led 145 of the 200 laps. 74 Mason Diaz came in 2nd after starting 5th. 3rd was 17 Taylor Gray who gave Smith fits all day and led 53 laps. 4th went to 6 Rajah Caruth and 5th to 54 Joey Iest. I can’t wait for the 2021 SNOWBALL Derby, always the first weekend in December. This year will be the 54th annual as the event began in 1968. Call the speedway office for tickets.
Before we began the awards ceremony, we auctioned off a car and other items to benefit Childhood Cancer with The Beach Optimist Club. We raised about $10,000 dollars with all the money going to the charity. After the money give away and the awards, we drew for a performance crate motor from Stingray Chevrolet, the largest Performance Chevrolet dealer in the Southeast. The motor, a 350 HO was a complete engine valued at $4,634 and will be delivered free of charge to the winner’s front door. The Mega 50/50 jackpot of over $10,000, talking about a happy winner, I thought he was going to stroke out on us! But he survived. After the show the Spring Break traffic was busy, we opted for a Waffle House off the beaten path and near the hotel. Elizabeth and I had a chance to debrief each other about what we saw and did while sitting on the balcony listening to sound of the waves. It was time to unwind. Elizabeth now knows what I am talking about when I say it takes a week to get over doing a big car show!
Elizabeth is so much fun to be with, to work with and the perfect life partner. We just have a great time and car shows are no exception. I thank the Lord every day for getting us together. It was the right time in our lives for both of us! My 10th year writing the column continues and the 2021 car show season has begun, I hope you can see your way to come out of your cave and enjoy the living of your life. You only get one life and it goes by quick, life is made for living, then you look around and you’re old and can’t go. …enjoy that 17 FOREVER state of mind and live life like you were dying! Jimbo, I'm down at my winter place in Pharr, Texas. That's about as far south as you can go without being in Mexico. Anyway, I went to a pretty good car show last weekend, the McAllen International CarFest. The International may be a stretch but, hey, this is Texas. And, it was the first show down here in about a year in these COVID times. Lots of enthusiasm by both exhibitors and spectators. I though I would write it up and send that and a few pictures to you to use in GC MotorSports. One of my goals before I come home in April to get pictures of a “Low Rider Hop Off”. Good chance I'll be the only Gringo there……….Pete
McALLEN CAR FEST 2021 By: Pete Clark McAllen's about 5 miles from the Mexican Border in Texas. That's probably pretty further South than we normally consider “Gulf” but I assure you it's hot, humid, and has hurricanes too. So, it obviously qualifies. And in common, the owners love their cars and want to show them off. The last Saturday in February they finally got their wishes. The 10th McAllen International Car Fest happened. Or was it the 10th since COVID got the last one? No matter. And it was the first show in quite a while down here in these pandemic times. Site was the McAllen Convention Center. Plenty of parking and no admission. To get in you had to be masked up and pass the thermometer check. It was held outside this year as opposed to the main hall. So about 120 entrants parked in a big circle around the lake. Nice wide walkway. Exhibitors all parked facing out with plenty of space between them. The always nearby owners were more than happy to talk about their “builds”. Quite a mixture; pony cars, muscle cars, and gassers. Vettes. Station wagons and trucks. Old cars, motorcycles, and the rat rods. And of course the low riders. They probably have more fun than most since they travel together and bring their families. In fact this show has special categories for the kids - low rider bike being the most popular. Paint jobs can get a little extreme down this way. Air brush murals are an art form and really make a ride distinctive. Both the exhibitors and spectators were able to get their pent-up car fix in quite a time. Everyone now is going to stayed dialed into their favorite Facebook account to see when the next one is coming up. COVID may slow thing down but our rides will prevail…. And the show even had Ghost Busters show up. That's got to be a great sign for the rest of the year too.

ADVICE FOR ANYONE MOVING TO MISSISSIPPI: 1. Save all bacon grease. You will be instructed later how to use it. 2. If you do run your car into a ditch, don't panic. Remember: "Y'all" is singular. "All y'all" is plural. "All y'all's" is plural possessive. 4. Get used to the phrase "It's not the heat, it's the humidity". And the collateral phrase "You call this hot? Wait' till August." 5. Don't tell us how you did it up there. Nobody cares. 6. If you think it's too hot, don't worry. It'll cool down-in December. 7. A Mercedes-Benz is not a status symbol, a Chevy, Dodge, or Ford is. 8. If someone says they're "fixin" to do something, that doesn't mean anything's broken. 9. The value of a parking space is not determined by the distance to the door, but the availability of shade. 10. If you see a slower moving vehicle on a two lane road pull onto the shoulder that is called "courtesy". 11. BBQ is a food group. It does NOT mean grilling burgers and hot dogs outdoors. 12. Yes, weddings, funerals, and divorces must take into account for deer season. 13. Everything is better with Tony’s seasoning. 14. DO NOT honk your horn at us to be obnoxious, we will sit there until we die. 15. We pull over and stop for emergency vehicles to pass. 16. We pull over for funeral processions, turn our music off and men remove hats or caps. Some people put their hand over their heart. 17. "Bless your Heart" is a nice way of many different things. 18. No matter what kind : Sprite, Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, it ain’t called soda or pop. Its all called Coke. 19. If you don't like the weather in Mississippi wait 15 minutes, it will change.

American History Humans existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/ gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer & would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in winter. The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups: Liberals and Conservatives. Once beer was discovered it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early human ancestors were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed. Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the "Conservative movement." Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQs and doing the sewing, fetching and hair dressing. This was the beginning of "the Liberal movement". Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as 'girliemen.' Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy and group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided. Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass. Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.

Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher also bat. Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, Marines, athletes and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living. Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to "govern" the producers and decide what to do with their production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tame and created a business of trying to get MORE for nothing. gas station owner in Thibodaux was trying to increase his sales, so he put up a sign that read, “Free Sex with Fill-Up.” Boudreaux pulled in, filled up his truck and asked for his free sex. Hebert, the Gas Station owner, told him to pick a number from 1 to 10. If he guessed correctly, he would get his free sex. Boudreaux guessed 8, and Hebert said, “You were close. The number was 7. Sorry. No sex this time.” A week later, Boudreaux, along with his friend Fontenot, pulled in for another fill-up. Again he asked for his free sex. Hebert again gave him the same story, and asked him to guess the correct number. Boudreaux guessed 2. The proprietor said, “Sorry, it was 3. You were close, but no free sex this time.” As they were driving away, Fontenot said to Boudreaux, “I think that game is rigged, and he doesn't really give away free sex at all.” Boudreaux replied, “No it's genuine enough. My wife her, she won twice last week.”
Mini Pineapple Upside Down Cakes Cake Ingredients: 2 eggs 2/3 cup white sugar 4 Tbsp pineapple juice 2/3 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt Topping: 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick or 4 Tbsp) 2/3 cup brown sugar (packed) 1-can pineapple rings 6-maraschino cherries Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray your muffin tins with nonstick cooking spray. In a mixing bowl, add eggs, white sugar, and pineapple juice. Beat for 2 minutes. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the wet ingredients and turn mixer back on for 2 minutes. In a small sauce pan, melt the butter and add the brown sugar. Stir on low heat for one minute. Spoon a layer of the warm brown sugar mixture into the bottom of each muffin tin, then place a pineapple ring on top. Add a cherry in the middle of each pineapple. Pour cake mixture over to fill muffin tin 3/4 of the way full. If you are using regular muffin tins, you will need to cut down the rings to fit or just use pineapple tidbits. Bake jumbo cakes for 25 minutes. Bake regular cakes for 20 minutes. If you choose to make a large cake, bake for 22-25 minutes in a 10 inch cast iron skillet. The cake is done with a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. This is the hard part...waiting for warm cakes to finish baking. Remove from the oven. Let cool in pan for 3 minutes. Run a knife around the edge of each cake to help loosen in case it sticks a little. Place a wire cooling rack on top, and quickly flip over on top of sheet tray to catch extra drippings. Place wire rack of cakes on sheet tray to cool.

EVIL MUTANT ATTACK SQUIRREL OF DEATH I never dreamed slowly cruising on my motorcycle through a residential neighborhood could be so incredibly dangerous! Little did I suspect. I was on Brice Street - a very nice neighborhood with perfect lawns and slow traffic. As I passed an oncoming car, a brown furry missile shot out from under it and tumbled to a stop immediately in front of me. It was a squirrel, and must have been trying to run across the road when it encountered the car. I really was not going very fast, but there was no time to brake or avoid it -- it was that close. I hate to run over animals, and I really hate it on a motorcycle, but a squirrel should pose no danger. I barely had time to brace for the impact. Animal lovers, never fear. Squirrels, I discovered, can take care of themselves! Inches before impact, the squirrel flipped to his feet. He was standing on his hind legs and facing my oncoming Harley with steadfast resolve in his beady little eyes. His mouth opened, and at the last possible second, he screamed and leapt! I am pretty sure the scream was squirrel for, "Banzai!" or maybe, "Die you gravy-sucking, heathen scum!" The leap was nothing short of spectacular... He shot straight up, flew over my windshield, and impacted me squarely in the chest. Instantly, he set upon me. If I did not know better, I would have sworn he brought 20 of his little buddies along for the attack. Snarling, hissing, and tearing at my clothes, he was a frenzy of activity. As I was dressed only in a T-shirt, and jeans this was a bit of a cause for concern. This furry little tornado was doing some damage! Picture a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a T-shirt, and leather gloves, puttering at maybe 25 mph down a quiet residential street, and in the fight of his life with a squirrel. And losing... I grabbed for him with my left hand. After a few misses, I finally managed to snag his tail. With all my strength, I flung the evil rodent off to the left of the bike, almost running into the right curb as I recoiled from the throw. That should have done it. The matter should have ended right there. It really should have. The squirrel could have sailed into one of the pristinely kept yards and gone on about his business, and I could have headed home. No one would have been the wiser. But this was no ordinary squirrel. This was not even an ordinary angry squirrel. This was an EVIL MUTANT ATTACK SQUIRREL OF DEATH! Somehow he caught my gloved finger with one of his little hands and, with the force of the throw, swung around and with a resounding thump and an amazing impact, he landed squarely on my BACK and resumed his rather antisocial and extremely distracting activities. He also managed to take my left glove with him! The situation was not improved. Not improved at all. His attacks were continuing, and now I could not reach him. I was startled, to say the least. The combination of the force of the throw, only having one hand (the throttle hand) on the handlebars, and my jerking back unfortunately put a healthy twist through my right hand and into the throttle. A healthy twist on the throttle of a Harley can only have one result. TORQUE. This is what the Harley is made for, and she is very, very good at it. The engine roared and the front wheel left the pavement. The squirrel screamed in anger. The Harley screamed in ecstasy. I screamed in, well ... I just plain screamed. Now picture a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a slightly squirrel-torn t-shirt,

wearing only one leather glove, and roaring at maybe 50 mph and rapidly accelerating down a quiet residential street on one wheel, with a demonic squirrel of death on his back. The man and the squirrel are both screaming bloody murder. With the sudden acceleration I was forced to put my other hand back on the handlebars and try to get control of the bike. This was leaving the mutant squirrel to his own devices, but I really did not want to crash into somebody's tree, house, or parked car. Also, I had not yet figured out how to release the throttle... my brain was just simply overloaded. I did manage to mash the back brake, but it had little effect against the massive power of the big cruiser. About this time the squirrel decided that I was not paying sufficient attention to this very serious battle (maybe he was an evil mutant NAZI attack squirrel of death), and he came around my neck and got INSIDE my fullface helmet with me. As the faceplate closed part way, he began hissing in my face. I am quite sure my screaming changed intensity. It had little effect on the squirrel, however. The RPMs on the Dragon maxed out (since I was not bothering with shifting at the moment), so her front end started to drop. Now picture a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a very raggedly torn T-shirt, wearing only one leather glove, roaring at probably 80 mph, still on one wheel, with a large puffy squirrel's tail sticking out of the mostly closed full-face helmet. By now, the screams are probably getting a little hoarse. Finally I got the upper hand ... I managed to grab his tail again, pulled him out of my helmet, and slung him to the left as hard as I could. This time it worked .. sort-of. Spectacularly sort-of ..so to speak. Picture a new scene. You are a cop. You and your partner have pulled off on a quiet residential street and parked with your windows down to do some paperwork. Suddenly a large man on a huge black and chrome cruiser, dressed in jeans, a torn T-shirt flapping in the breeze, and wearing only one leather glove, moving at probably 80 mph on one wheel, and screaming bloody murder roars by, and with all his strength throws a live squirrel grenade directly into your police car. I heard screams. They weren't mine... I managed to get the big motorcycle under control and dropped the front wheel to the ground. I then used maximum braking and skidded to a stop in a cloud of tire smoke at the stop sign of a busy cross street. I would have returned to 'fess up (and to get my glove back). I really would have. Really... Except for two things. First, the cops did not seem interested or the slightest bit concerned about me at the moment. When I looked back, the doors on both sides of the patrol car were flung wide open. The cop from the passenger side was on his back, doing a crab walk into somebody's front yard, quickly moving away from the car The cop who had been in the driver's seat was standing in the street, aiming a riot shotgun at his own police car. So, the cops were not interested in me. They often insist to "let the professionals handle it" anyway. That was one thing. The other? Well, I could clearly see shredded and flying pieces of foam and upholstery from the back seat. But I could also swear I saw the squirrel in the back window, shaking his little fist at me That is one dangerous squirrel. And now he has a patrol car. A somewhat shredded patrol car .... but it was all his. I took a deep breath, turned on my turn-signal, made a gentle right turn off of Brice Street, and sedately left the neighborhood. I decided it was best to just buy myself a new pair of gloves. And a whole lot of Band-Aids.

Ziggie Gina Jones Riders know this, but the general public may not be aware. If you have never been part of a benefit ride you should know at least this: Bikers PAY to ride. Something they could do for free. But they choose to pay to ride, the fee can be anywhere between $10 to $20 or $30 per person. Not only do they pay to ride, they usually drop a lot of cash for the extras. Raffles, 50/50, and silent auctions, even Toy Runs for kids.... When you see a group ride by, they are probably riding for charity/great causes/benefits! Instead of getting upset because they blocked traffic or caused you a slight delay, please remember this: They are very generous people!!! Give them space and your patience. It sometimes helps to have a little reminder about things. So please be patient and smile when you see them because they are doing something good for someone you may know, or for a good cause.

The Coast Cruizers will be doing a drive thru cruise-in to the Boyington, for the residents that are there. We will drive thru the drive and toss some beads to the residents. We have been asked to be there about 2pm. The residents will be on the side walk in their wheel chairs and walkers. We won't be stopping to visit because of covid. We will leave the parking lot and drive to the Boyington, it is about 5 blocks from the parking lot. If traffic allows, we might make 2 trips thru the drive.
