On every main street, side street and laneway you can discover exciting and inspirational art, shopping and dining experiences – and sometimes all three together. Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square A one-stop-shop for visitors providing information on Melbourne and Victoria: brochures and maps; what’s on in the city; souvenirs; plus a travel booking service. Open daily from 9am to 6pm (closed Christmas Day). Melbourne Visitor Booth in the Bourke Street Mall Friendly volunteers at the Melbourne Visitor Booth provide free maps and information on shopping, attractions and events in Melbourne. Open daily from 9am to 5pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day). City Ambassadors Dressed in their distinctive red uniforms, City Ambassadors provide a mobile information service in the city with information on shopping, events and how to get around. Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, Sunday noon to 3pm (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day). Melbourne Greeter Service Free multilingual walking orientations of the city, conducted by trained volunteers. Orientations are conducted in English daily at 9.30am from the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day). Bookings are essential, phone 9658 9658 on weekdays and 9658 9942 on weekends or visit melbourne.vic.gov.au/greeter. Melbourne Visitor Shuttle The Melbourne Visitor Shuttle is a great way to see Melbourne’s attractions, stopping at 13 key destinations around the city. A round trip takes approximately 90 minutes and includes an informative on-board audio commentary. It runs every 30 minutes between 9.30am to 4.30pm every day (excluding Christmas Day). Tickets are available from the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square or from ticket machines located at each stop. TRAVELLING TO REGIONAL VICTORIA With more than 1,400 train services and 600 coach services every week, V/Line is a great way to travel around Victoria. V/Line is Australia’s largest regional public transport operator. V/Line For Victorians and visitors alike, V/Line offers an exciting range of destinations to suit every taste. V/Line’s growing fleet of modern VLocity trains can get you where you want to go in comfort at up to 160 km/h. They operate on most of V/Line’s commuter services to places like Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Traralgon. You can also travel with V/Line to other great destinations including Swan Hill, Warrnambool, Echuca, Shepparton, Albury-Wodonga and Bairnsdale. myki V/Line commuter trains have made the switch to myki, Victoria’s new smart card ticketing system. A myki is the only ticket you need on Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses, as well as town buses in some regional areas. V/Line Escape puts hundreds of travel ideas at your fingertips, including events, galleries, tours, markets, museums, wineries, gardens, restaurants, pubs and accommodation. Some of these attractions offer special discounts for V/Line customers. You can also visit the website to plan your escape online: vline.com.au V/Line My Line App This app is the perfect solution for all regular V/Line travellers. It provides the most up-to-date service information, timetables and a journey planner. You can set up your profile to receive only relevant notifications. All you need to do is to nominate your favourite services in the set-up, and you’ll always know about key changes and the next five departures.


USEFUL INFORMATION Explore Victoria’s beautiful regions via its first-class roads, or travel in style by utilising the various train and bus companies that connect Melbourne with the regions.

SkyBus SkyBus is a cost effective and easy to use bus service that runs express between Melbourne Airport and Melbourne’s city centre, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. CityLink Tollway CityLink is a 22 kilometre automated tollway which connects the Tullamarine, West Gate and Monash freeways. 13 26 29  citylink.com.au

EastLink Tollway EastLink is a 39 kilometre automated tollway that connects the Eastern, Monash, Frankston and Peninsula Link freeways. There are no cash tollbooths on CityLink or EastLink so to pay the tolls you must either open an account before you travel or buy a pass. Road Safety If you are not familiar with driving in Victoria, make sure you follow these road rules: » In Australia, cars travel on the left hand side of the road. » Speed is in km/h and speeding is illegal. Heavy fines are imposed if you are caught above the limit. » Seat belts are compulsory in front and back seats. Children must be harnessed in a safety restraint. » Drivers are required to carry a license at all times. International driving licenses are acceptable for up to three months, however you will require a Victorian license after this period.
