Discover Melbourne Whether you are here for a day, a week or longer, here are some itineraries that include not-to-be-missed experiences.

Gingerboy

Day One

Day Two

Morning

Morning

There is nothing better than making the most of the fresh air in Melbourne. Stroll along the Yarra River and Southbank, one of the city’s most picturesque areas. Situated in the centre of the Arts Precinct, a quick detour will have you exploring the National Gallery of Victoria, or overlooking the entire city at Eureka Skydeck 88, the highest viewing platform in the Southern Hemisphere.

Night As the sun sets it is time to experience the best of Melbourne’s dining – and there is no place better than Flinders Lane. Fast becoming the city’s food capital, with restaurant after restaurant popping up serving delicious fare, Flinders Lane offers a range of high-end and quick dining options that are sure to leave you content. Check out Papa Goose for a five course degustation with matched wines or if pizza and pasta takes your fancy, you can't go past Terra Rossa.

4   Melbourne Accommodation Guide

With a little more time to explore, make sure you take time to discover some of the city’s most famed laneways and arcades. For those who lack the confidence to go it alone, Hidden Secrets Tours have you covered with tours focused on all of Melbourne’s best hidden gems. Indulge in the amazing foodie scene and café culture, experience the city’s famed lanes and arcades, or discover the stunning architecture and design.

Night Melbourne has a long and proud history of theatre, with season after season of award-winning and innovative shows taking to the many hallowed stages that fill the city. Catch a Broadway classic as they stomp the boards of the famed Regent, Her Majesty’s and Princess Theatres or experiment with something new from the Melbourne Theatre Company. After the show sit back and rehash all the highlights at one of the city’s many rooftop bars. With amazing views and drink menus to match, you are sure to be in for a great night.

My Melbourne As the Chief Concierge at The Langham, Melbourne, and National President of the renowned international concierge society Les Clef d'Or, Peter McBrearty is an expert on this vibrant city. He shares his recommendations for your stay: Place for a great coffee: If I’m in the city I’ll often drop by Sensory Lab, which is located just behind David Jones. It provides a very handy spot to recharge the caffeine levels if they plummet while you’re out shopping, without compromising on the quality of the brew. Favourite View: It’s pretty hard to go past the 360 degree views from Eureka SkyDeck 88 at Southgate, which are exceptional at any time of day and when the restaurant above (Eureka 89) is open for dinner, the night time carpet of lights is the icing on the cake.

Peter McBrearty

Little Cupcakes

Favourite Walk: I like to walk along the riverfront at Southgate under Princes Bridge, and then past the rowing clubs, before heading up to cross Alexandra Avenue to the popular Tan Track, which runs for about 3.8 km around the Royal Botanic Gardens. The combination of the river and the gardens is almost symbolic of Melbourne itself, and is a great way to end the day. Place for a business dinner: The Point at Albert Park has an extensive wine list, well-informed sommeliers, an excellent menu and polished service – all in conjunction with views over the lake itself and the option of a private dining room. The environment lends itself perfectly to business lunches and dinners. A quintessential Melbourne experience: I often suggest to guests they experience one of the major sporting events such as the Australian Open, Spring Racing, the Cricket in summer or an AFL game (with a mandatory pie and sauce, of course) in winter. If they seem a little unsure, we will sometimes direct them to an expert in the field such as Melbourne Sports Tours, who will actually introduce people to the finer points of AFL games and other icons of Melbourne’s rabid sporting culture.
