Davis Applied Technology College’s Continuing Education courses are designed to prepare individuals to succeed in today’s advanced business world and conquer everyday challenges. If you are looking for quality courses taught by expert instructors, then register for a Continuing Education course today!

Registration Classes start every week. To register, please visit www.datc.edu/ece or call 801.593.2100. To guarantee a spot, you are advised to register for your chosen class at least one week in advance. The DATC reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment.

Payment Payment must be made in full within five days of registration or before the class begins; whichever comes first. No partial payments will be accepted.

Withdrawals and Refunds • • • •

Full Refund -- If cancellation is received at least four days prior to the class start date. 50% Refund -- If cancellation is received between zero to four days prior to the start date (fee not to exceed $100). Refunds will not be given for no call, no show. A full refund will be issued for courses that are canceled due to inadequate enrollment.

The Basic Life Support course certifies individuals in infant/child, one and two-man adult CPR, and AED training. This course is designed for healthcare providers. Training covers: the AHA Chain of Survival; 1 & 2 rescuer CPR/ AED for adult/child/infant; differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques; bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant; rescue breathing for adult, child and infant; relief of choking for adult, child and infant; and intro to CPR with an advanced airway. Skills are taught using AHA’s research proven Practice-While-Watching technique, which allows instructors to observe students, provide feedback and guide students’ acquisition of skills. 3 hours This First Aid course certifies individuals in adult and infant/child basic first aid. Training covers: first aid basics (including scene safety, finding the problem, calling for help and more); medical emergencies (including actions for choking, breathing problems, shock and more); injury emergencies (including actions for bleeding, broken bones, burns and more); environmental emergencies (including actions for bites and stings, and temperature-related and poison emergencies); skills are taught using AHA’s research proven Practice-While-Watching technique, which allows instructors to observe students, provide feedback and guide students’ acquisition of skills. Vehicle Safety Inspection: Light Duty 16 Hours This course certifies students to inspect passenger cars, light trucks and motorcycles. Testing is done in class. Basic Motorcycle Service 18 Hours Learn the basics of motorcycle servicing, maintenance, and operation to ensure safety and peak performance. Learn to keep your motorcycle in great condition and avoid unpleasant surprises on the road. Topics will include identifying basic parts, function, use, safety, and riding; service plans; and troubleshooting. Students will be encouraged to bring their own motorcycle to work on nearing the end of the course.

This course begins the foundation for individuals seeking to get a better understanding of the financial planning process so as to determine why it’s important to have a plan for your money. It starts with a discussion of the six keys to financial success and includes the seven roadblocks that you will face. Participants will also learn how to create bank and credit card accounts, make deposits, reconcile accounts, track and sell physical inventory, create and manage fixed asset and liability accounts, and perform payroll in QuickBooks. A3 thinking teaches critical thinking skills and assures the correct solution, or countermeasure, that has been discovered. An element-by-element look at the ISO 9001 based Quality Management Systems in order to remove the perceived complexity from the process of registration. 5 S - Workplace Organization 8 Hours 5s is a LEAN manufacturing tool that helps identify problems and keeps work areas organized and inspection ready at all times. In this course learn how to implement the components of 5S, Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. Foundations of Photography Course Instructor: Dave McLelland

Join us for our new digital photography course series and learn to take the perfect picture. In this three-week course we will explore the foundational knowledge you will need as a photographer. Dave McLelland will teach you how to use your camera to create photographs that will capture your memories and inspire your thoughts. Week 1 Week one will cover camera operation, getting them out of automatic mode, key settings in their camera such as RAW vs JPEG, image size, quality, and other image settings. Students will also learn about autofocus and the proper way to care for their camera. They will be introduced to the four keys to great photos, which will cause them to think about photography differently.

Week 2 Week two will cover composition and lighting, and how to use both effectively for better photos. Composition shows them the guidelines of where to put their subject, how to effectively draw their viewers’ attention and other tips that pro photographers use to make their images stand out. The lighting section teaches the characteristics of lighting including direction, quality and color and how to effectively control them as well as an introduction to flash photography

Week 3 Week three will cover exposure, how and why to set shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Understanding exposure will help their photos become even more creative and stand out from the snapshots beginner photographers typically capture. They will learn how to shoot in manual and priority modes on their camera and will recap the previous two weeks’ lessons. The instructor will introduce them to the seven steps to creating great images and will teach them how to think like a photographer. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Portable 5 at the main DATC campus. Each class will last three hours for a total of nine for the series.
