LTG Introduction Donna Sounevongsa Hello there Robots! I would like to introduce you to the Robo Report, our official Divisional Newsletter! A new Robo Report will be out for you all to see every 20th of the month, so if you have an article or picture that you want to everyone to see, submit it, and it could be on here! Aside from that, Hope you all are enjoying your summer, I know it’s been quite a hectic start of the 2011-12 Key Club year, and I would like to thank you all for pulling through a busy beginning! It’s not all over yet though, because we still have a lot more to do before the school year starts up again. Since summer vacation has started, you might think that Key Club is over also… WRONG. Key Club is YEAR ROUND, and the summer is a great time to get down to business. Please remember to utilize the summer to plan even more service events, more club fundraisers, and take this time to visit your sponsoring Kiwanis. Create some club bonding time with a day at the beach, and even hold meetings during the summer for the people who aren’t going away. Service never stops! When school starts, make sure the club starts with a BANG to leave an impression on members both new, and old. From June 27- July 3rd, I got an amazing chance to go to this year’s International Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. I learned a lot there that will help me help you all. I have learned new ways to better improve this division and I’m determined to make a change. Also, I learned about a whole bunch of service projects we can do! Hope to see you all next DCM!

Daniel’s Note

Immediate Past Lieutenant Governor 2010-11

Division 31, Where to begin? No words can ever describe the raw happiness, love, and pride you have all instilled in me. Each and every one of you—the officers who spent countless hours reading my abnormally large emails, the friends who gave me the support and strength I needed to succeed, the advisors who guided me in times of need, and the members who glued our expansive family together—changed my life for the better, and for that, I will be forever grateful. My term as Division 31 Lieutenant Governor 2010-2011 was definitely a roller coaster. I sacrificed countless hours of sleep, nights out with friends, and gatherings with my family. And, I don't regret it one bit. The satisfaction of seeing my hard work come to fruition made every sacrifice worth it. This is not to say I don't have regrets. I think we all feel guilty about the goals we COULD'VE accomplished or the deadlines we COULD'VE met, but it is these mistakes that make us human. I can only have faith that your current Lieutenant Governor, Donna, will take these mistakes and remedy them to maximize D31's potential so that we can be the best BEES in CNH! And I have no doubt that Donna will. Already, she has shown her eagerness to better our best and I know my divisional baby rests in good hands. When asked what I will remember most about Key Club, the dozens of memories instantly flash in my mind. Key Club was an incredible experience, and I will cherish the memories made in this incredible club so dearly. From our OTC where we had a record eight schools in attendance, to RTC 2010 where D31 members traveled over 30 miles to place 3rd in the spirit competition (a record!), to FRS where over eighty of Division 31's most dedicated and spirited members cheered their hearts out and formed a formidable wave of red, silver, and black, proving to be a force to be reckoned with. To performing over 4,300 hours of community service and raising over $2,600 for service. To our memorable DCMs where we shared our fears, fought with water balloons, played an intense game of football, sported our wackiest pajamas to watch a movie, absorbed the greatest amount of knowledge, and formed inseparable bonds. And finally to our amazing showing at DCON where two of our officers received awards and three of our members (including your very own LTG, Donna) sang to their own rhythm in the talent show. Division 31, you showed me how to live, and for that, I am forever grateful. On Sunday, July 17th, I will no longer be a Key Club member and will thus be closing a big chapter in my life. But I know this is not my 'goodbye', it's my 'see you later'. I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. L-O-V-E, I LOVE MY D-I-V! Thank you,

Daniel Medina, D31 IP LTG

Club Reports REPORTS What are all the clubs up to?

Granite Hills After finishing up a hard year at school, the Granite Hills Key Club is taking a much needed break so all of the members can relax and refuel. Our goals for July are to learn what we need to do in order to become the best club we can be and to get organized. We have an upcoming event in August where the members will run a "family fun day" for foster children and their foster parents. We will have tons of games, activities, and of course food, and it should be a great day. This year, our club is going to participate in more events and try to expand since the majority of our club was seniors, who have all graduated. We are all looking forward to the new school year and to getting those volunteer hours in. :) -Sarah Havener, President

Grossmont "Plan, Plan, Plan!" Guten Tag Robots! Here at Grossmont we are constantly meeting, to be on the same page but also to build our club. In this process we decided to start first on repairing broken bridges. First, we went to our Kiwanis sponsor's meeting (the first time in a while) and since we have had our new board we have not missed a meeting! They gave us something that was missing in our club, direction. Direction- the act of directing. Directing- to manage or guide by advice, helpful information, instruction. The first objective they told us that was important for this year was, to have our dues ON TIME, to switch up our events from the same routine and communication. We solved this by training our treasurer, planning new events and making a facebook page "grossmont high school key club" and a website "http://grossmonthighkeyclub.weebly.com". In our weekly / biweekly board meetings we are planning some merchandise to buy and sell; like Division bracelets for 3 dollars and we will make a 100 dollar profit, and a Club competition for a t-shirt design. We will be funding these ventures with past money and a 75 dollar donation from Scouts West San Diego! So far this month we have had a general meeting where we told our members about our board's ideas and upcoming divisional events like the July DCM. After the meeting we had our first summer service event! We made cards for soldiers that are overseas. Overall we're waiting for this year to start to bring glory back to Grossmont High Key Club. In the words of Sara Tobias, "[Grossmont] has it together, has lots of energy, and are a club to look out for!" -Robert Timby, Editor

Grossmont Middle College

"Working on it" Hey Robots, Here at Grossmont Middle College, we are planning our first board meeting. We are going to plan our upcoming events; some ideas we have are beach clean ups, soup kitchens, and food banks. Some ways we are planning to fund the club is to have bake sales and such. Once the school year starts, we will have new members to the club. Unfortunately at a small school it'll be difficult to have a lot of members, but it's better than nothing! We haven't had a service event because we basically have five members, and that is the board. All the other members of our club have graduated. We are all looking forward to this upcoming school year to have lots of events and some new members. -Judy Luu, President

Helix Over the summer our board looked over the previous years and tried to identify our weak points. We were not very strong in areas of local involvement and interacting with our sponsoring Kiwanis club. This year we strive to do more for our school and our local community. We are currently working with the local Boys and Girls Club to help tutor younger students and are also contacting the La Mesa Police department for projects such as the Graffiti Wall Paint-out Project and Safety Education. We are looking forward to the upcoming year and working with the our school, community, Kiwanis, and of course our fellow Key Clubbers! -Dillon Cao, President

Monte Vista "Stepping It Up" Last year's Monte Vista's Key Club was a bit hectic, as we had a lot of trouble finding a faculty adviser. Then from there, our officers(including me) had no training but were forced to make do to run our club. Barley scraping by to get the dues in on time and not getting our T-shirt money to the right place is NOT the way to run a Key Club. This year we plan to be so much more organized, and my officers will be trained accordingly. We plan on promoting our club, which we hope in turn, will boost our members. We are also going to start offering and publicizing more events to get people to attend. So, in a nutshell, Monte Vista's Key Club will no longer be that small, random, disorganized club who never shows up to events. We will be...Stepping it up! -Kayla Kulhanek, President

Steele Canyon

"Building the Foundation" As summer started, so did a new chapter of Key Club for Steele Canyon. As the newly elected officers, we were properly trained at the OTC in June. We are now ready to take our places as Steele Canyon's Key Club leaders. We have been working together to make lot of plans about our objectives for next year, morphing our individual ideas into collaborative goals for the club. The first goal we have set for our club is to increase membership. We want to get more people involved than previous years, as many of our past members were in Key Club without knowing much about it. Wanting to change that, we have been promoting Key Club through web resources and word of mouth. We have been encouraging old members and recruiting new ones to attend events such as the July DCM. This goal does not come without some challenges, so we have been working on communication between our officers. We have created a google group (http://groups.google.com/group/steele-canyon-key-club) to make communication easier and more efficient. This group combined with our other forms of communication have helped us stay in touch during the summer. In the past few weeks, we have become more comfortable with each other, feeling safe to share ideas and speak our minds about our club and it's future. In June and July, we have focused on building Steele Canyon stronger for next year, in numbers, pride, and service, while developing better relationships between our board members. We cannot wait until next year and the opportunities it brings for our strengthened club! -Sara Butler, President

West Hills We had our annual banquet which most of our members attended. We ordered food from Pat and Oscars paid for by our local Kiwanis which was very kind of them. At the meeting all the graduating members were awarded a graduation sash along with flowers. Every member also received a certificate with his or her own hours. On the 19th five of our officers attended the DCM in which we ALL learned more about our positions and duties. We are all trying to apply that information to our club improvements as we look forward to our club summer meetings in July. All in all it was a slow month for the club but we are trying to get in touch with our members to come up with more volunteering opportunities. My club roaster directory is also not updated because i was unable to get any information about our members but i hope to have it done by the next month. -Saida Juma, Secretary

July DCM Recap Overview

This DCM was held at South Mission Beach and was a joint DCM with the Division 21 Hippos. Why do we do this? Well first, let me just say that everything in Key Club is a learning experience. This DCM gave members a chance to see what is beyond our own division. It gave you all who attended the opportunity to meet some new people. Also, this DCM was just not complete without the FOOD. There was a potluck included. Another lesson learned: Sharing is Caring. Thank you for all the people who brought something to share! After all the hectic craziness everything cooled down and the sun set, there was a nice bonfire that people relax by. For those who missed it, there might be another one soon in the spring!
