United States Statehood & Territories Quarter Program

Since it’s inception 1999, the state quarter program has started more collectors on their numismatic journey than any other program before

it. It really began at the end of 1997 when President Clinton signed Public Law 105-124 authorizing the State Quarters Program. Under the United States Mint Director Philip N. Diehl, an innovative program intended to honor each of the 50 states was planned.

The series was scheduled to release 5 quarters each year starting in 1999 in the order each state ratified the Constitution or were admitted to

the Union. The reverse of each quarter displayed a picture honoring the particular State. On January 4, 1999 the Delaware Quarter was released, displaying Caesar Rodney on horseback who notably rode 80 miles to cast the deciding vote in favor of independence. Caesar Rodney held more public offices than any other Delaware citizen thus granting his acclaim on the Delware quarter.

Through the years the quarters were released in several different variation from mint state to proof and even the special edition solid silver

versions. Hawaii was the final quarter to conclude the Statehood quarters and was released on November 3, 2008. The reverse of the Hawaii quarter features the statue of King Kamehameha, who unified the governance of the Hawaiian Islands in the early 1800’s.

Following the popularity of the Statehood Quarters Program the U.S. Mint authorized a one year program honoring the 6 U.S. jurisdictions

that are not classified as States but known as The District of Columbia and United States Territories Program. The program was authorized by President Bush in 2007 under Public Law 110-456. This program followed the same design plan where each reverse image represented the Territories. This concluded the Statehood and Territory Quarters Program in 2009.

Now that it’s finished there are several different complete sets available to collectors including gold and even platinum layered coins. Check

out some of our most popular sets below!

The Official State & Territory Quarter Collectors Album In this deluxe Collectors Album we have compiled a complete set of brilliant uncirculated Statehood and U.S. Territory quarters – 112 quarters in all! America the Beautiful National Park Quarter Program ®

®

Continuing the recent trend of highlighting the beauty of the United States, the America the Beautiful Quarter Program was intro-

duced. This program was authorized by President George W. Bush through Public Law 110-456, providing the redesign of each quarter dollar representing National Sites in each State, the District of Columbia and each Territory.

Like the Statehood Quarter program, this series will release 5 quarters per year and are released in the order the sites were estab-

lished as a national site. The reverse of each quarter displays a picture honoring the National Sites within each State.

®

On April 19, 2010 the first America the Beautiful National Park Quarter — Hot Springs — was released. The reverse of this quarter

features decorative façade of the main park building, with one of the park’s many fountains displayed in the forefront of the image. Each quarter is released into circulation with an official launch ceremony held at each National Park and other National Sites.

®

The America the Beautiful Program is currently in the sixth year with another six years to go. Throughout the program the United

States Mint has released many products featuring the new quarters such as: proof sets, silver proof sets, five ounce silver quarters and much ®

more. CSN provides a variety of different sets in the America the Beautiful quarter’s program starting with 2010 and finishing in 2021. This sec®

United States Presidential Dollar Program The United States Mint authorized under Public Law 109-145 created The Presidential $1 Coin Act which was signed by President George W. Bush on December 15, 2005. This Act called for the redesign and issuance of $1 coins honoring the former Presidents of the United States, the first being released in 2007. The series would offer four Presidents each year, releasing in the order of Presidential terms. If a president served in two consecutive terms, only one coin will be issued for that President. If the President served two nonconsecutive terms (such as Grover Cleveland) two different coins will be issued. Under the Act, the Presidential coins will only be issued for Presidents who have been deceased for at least two years. The obverse of the Presidential Dollars features the name and dramatic picture of the President being honored. Additionally the motto “In God We Trust”, the President’s term, and years served are featured on the obverse as well. The obverse designers have varied with each Presidential Dollar. The reverse of the Presidential Dollars is a large picture of the Statue of Liberty with the inscriptions of “United States of America” and “$1” included. The reverse design that has been used for each Presidential dollar issued, was designed by US Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart. Another important fact about the dollars is the inscriptions that appear on the edge of each coin. These inscriptions include the date, mint mark, and motto “E Pluribus Unum”. In the first two years of the series, the motto “In God we Trust” appears on the edge of the coins as well, but was moved to the obverse in 2009. The mintage levels of the Presidential dollars series have declined throughout the years of the program, making this series increasingly rare!

COIN FACT: In 2007 & 2008 the Presidential Dollars were designed with the words "In God We Trust", "E Pluribus Unum", the date and the mint mark on the edge of the coin. This however created an enormous uproar among the collecting community since "In God We Trust" is traditionally on the obverse of a coin and many people thought it was left off entirely. As a result, in 2009 "In God We Trust" along with the date were moved to the front of the coin thus creating two different design types throughout the series.

COIN FACT: With the release of the Presidential Dollar series in 2007 came a plenitude of technical changes in the minting process. One of which was the implementation of edge lettering. While many of the coins were created without issue there was a small number of coins released that skipped the edge lettering process entirely. These coins were renowned as one of the most profound errors in modern coin history and demanded enormous premiums upon discovery. So much so that some people began to grind off the edge lettering in attempts to replicate these coins. As a result grading companies began certifying them to distinguish the authentic errors versus the fakes.

Coin Fact: The Kennedy Half Dollars were first released on March 24, 1964 to tremendous fan-fair. The initial release was for 70,000 coins and there are accounts of a line forming a block long from the treasury department since the department limited sales to 40 per customer. The Mint initially planned to strike 91 million of the coins in total but raised it to 141 million to meet overwhelming public demand. Despite increasing the mintage, the coins were still not making it into circulation so the Mint decided to continue making 1964 coins into 1965 and brought the total mintage up to approximately 430 million. Even though the 1964 remains as one of the higher mintages in the series, it is still one of the more sought after. This is due partially to the fact that it is one of the few 90% silver Kennedys ever made.

United States Mint Silver Coins Possibly one of the most popular precious metal coins the United States Mint produces! On July 9, 1985 Congress authorized the Liberty Coin Act (Public Law 99-61), and so became the American Silver Eagle - first minted and sold in 1986. Each coin weighs 1 troy ounce and is struck from .999 fine silver. The American Silver Eagle is annually produced and sold in two versions: proof and uncirculated. The Silver Eagle obverse features a modern interpretation of Adolph A. Weinman’s design of the Walking Liberty, and includes the inscriptions of “Liberty” and “In God We Trust” and the year. The reverse of the Silver Eagle features a Heraldic Eagle with shield. The Eagle has an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left, and beak holding a scroll containing the words “E Pluribus Unim”. The inscriptions surrounding the Eagle reads “United States of America – 1oz Fine Silver – and One Dollar.” The reverse design was done by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti. Both designers of the obverse and reverse of the Silver Eagle discretely have their initials in their designs. Throughout the years the U.S. Mint has made unique Anniversary sets with limited qualities. The most notable was the 1995-W 10th Anniversary Proof Silver Eagle – that was also sold in a five coin set with the four Gold Eagles from 1995 – miniscule mintage struck. The 2006 Silver Eagle was presented in the 20th Anniversary Set that contained an uncirculated, proof, and reverse proof Silver Eagle. The very popular and sought after product was the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle 5-coin set that included; a bullion silver eagle with no mintmark, uncirculated silver eagle with a W mintmark and a proof silver eagle with W mintmark from the West Point mint as well. The last two coins in this set are key coins for the set; the 2011-S uncirculated Silver Eagle and the 2011-P Reverse Proof Silver Eagle. Millions and millions of Silver Eagles have been sold since the beginning of the program and today you can pick your favorite year and version from CSN!!

Classic Gold – Liberty/Indian/Dollars U.S. Gold Type Sets are the cornerstone of any great coin collection. The United States Mint produced its first gold coins in 1795. Over the next 100 plus years, the mint produced a variety of gold coins across six different denominations – from the smallest weighing in at a little over 1 gram, to the largest $20 gold pieces containing almost a full ounce of gold. Production of gold coins for circulation ended in 1933 when President Roosevelt recalled all gold coins back to the Federal Reserve Bank. Amazingly, exquisite examples of these incredible coins are still available.

Saint Gaudens $20 Double Eagle, introduced in 1907 is one of the favorites among collectors. Designed in collaboration with President Roosevelt and sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, depicting Lady Liberty striding forward on the obverse and a breathtaking eagle in flight on the reverse.

Liberty Head $20 Double Eagle, born in the era of the great California Gold Rush (1850-1866). The $20 Liberty Head was one of the largest circulating gold coins. The coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint from 1850 through 1865, at the New Orleans mint from 1850 through 1861, and the San Francisco Mint from 1854 through 1866. The San Francisco coins of 1866 were the last of the design, and were also issued as part of the type 2 series, with the new motto IN GOD WE TRUST.

Indian Head $10 Eagle, regular issued coins were struck at all three Mints (P, D, and S) from 1908 through 1911, and again in 1914. Only Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints struck eagles in 1912, 1913, and 1915. Only San Francisco Mint struck them in 1916 and 1920. The portrait of Liberty seen on coins of this type originally was designed by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens as a bust of the Nike head used on New York City’s monument to General William T. Sherman. At the request of President Roosevelt, Saint-Gaudens adapted this splendid bust for the $10 piece with the addition of a Native American headdress.

Indian Head $5, in January 1914 with Europe on the brink of war and the United States in the throes of a depression, Henry Ford initiated “the greatest revolution in the matter of rewards for its workers ever known to the industrial world.” He doubled his workers’ pay from $2.34 per day to a princely $5 and reduced their nine-hour workday to eight hours. The $5 gold piece suddenly became a coin of considerable clout. Even though it was only slightly larger than the then brand-new “Buffalo” nickel, it represented a full day’s pay – enough to buy a pair of trousers plus a pair of work boots. These Indian Head gold pieces are unlike any other coins produced before or since by Uncle Sam: their designs and inscriptions are sunken below the surface of the coins, rather than being raised.

Liberty Head $5, one of the longest lasting denominations in United States history. Half eagles would go on to see almost continuous production from 1795 to 1929, and throughout their life, they would not only be used in trade, but – in preference to almost any other gold coin – would popularly be found in Christmas stockings! The obverse design features Liberty’s hair tied in a bun and secured by a string of beads. She wears a coronet in her hair inscribed with the word LIBERTY.

Liberty Head $2.5,

issued in 1840 through 1907 the Coronet quarter eagle was struck at five different mints: Philadelphia (no mint mark), Charlotte (C), Dahlonega (D), New Orleans (O), and San Francisco (S). Throughout this series of gold coins there are some with legendary status, as well as a large number of dates or mint marks with scarce issues.

Type III Indian Princess Gold Dollar, first made its appearance in 1849 at a mere thirteen millimeters in diameter. This was more than one-fourth smaller than our present day Roosevelt dime! Which caused many American’s to grumble as losing a dollar back then represented losing a day’s pay. In 1856, the mint created the Type III $1 coin with a larger, flatter portrait. The coin features a female figure commonly described as an “Indian Princess”.

Type I Liberty Head $1, introduced in 1849 and the California gold rush provided the spark. During their six years of production, Type 1 gold dollars were struck at five different mints - Philadelphia (no mint mark), Charlotte (C), Dahlonega (D), New Orleans (O), and San Francisco (S) – but only the Philadelphia and Dahlonega mints issued them every year. San Francisco made them only in 1854, while Charlotte and New Orleans made them every year except 1854.

Mint Sets Since 1947, the United States Mint has created annual sets of uncirculated coins for collectors known as Mint Sets. These popular sets provide collectors with one example of each coin issued for circulation. Amidst a few interruptions and several changes in format, this popular offering for collectors continues to the present day. Some sets are particularly noteworthy since they contain coins not issued for circulation. This includes the 1970 Mint Set, which includes the 1970-D Kennedy half, and later sets issued in 1973 and 1981 that include non-circulating dollar coins. The 1996 Mint Set included the 1996-W Roosevelt Dime struck at the West Point Mint – a coin found only in the sets for the 50th anniversary of the coin series. From 2005 to present, the United States Mint has used a special satin finish for coins included in the annual Mint Set. Along with particularly low mintages, this adds another unique aspect to the sets.

Collector Starter Sets Peace Dollars

The Peace Dollar was first minted in 1921 to commemorate the end of World War I and the peace that followed. It was the successor to the popular Morgan Dollar. Peace Dollars were last minted in 1935, and at the height of the Great Depression, millions of these coins were melted for their silver content. This is a rare chance to own 10 examples of the only coin to display the word “PEACE”.

Ten Coins 22456 | $499.95

Morgan Dollars Minted intermittently from 1878 to 1921, the Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most collected coins in the hobby! It’s big (one and a half inches in diameter), and made of 90% silver. The coin is named after its designer George T. Morgan, and his initial M is found at the end of the neck of the portrait Lady Liberty on the obverse of the coin.

Ten Coins 22457 | $499.95

Eisenhower Dollars Issued from 1971-1978 these coins were designed to honor both President Dwight D Eisenhower and the first landing of a man on the moon. Ten Coins 23462 | $24.95

Susan B. Anthony Dollars Minted from 1979 to 1981, and again in 1999, Susan B’s depict women’s suffrage campaigner Susan B. Anthony. It was the first circulating U.S. coin with the portrait of an actual woman rather than an allegorical female figure such as ‘Liberty’. The reverse depicts an eagle flying above the moon (with the Earth in the background), a design adapted from the Apollo 11 mission insignia that was also present on the previously issued Eisenhower Dollar.

Ten Coins 23463 | $49.95

Barber Half Dollars These coins were designed by Charles E. Barber, Chief Engraver at the U.S. Mint from 1879-1917 and minted from 1892-1915. Also known as Liberty Head Half Dollars, all Barber Coinage saw very heavy and long term use in daily commerce and consequentially, most surviving examples are heavily worn.

Ten Coins 22459 | $219.95

Ten Coins 22460 | $199.95

Kennedy Half Dollars The Kennedy half dollar, first minted in 1964, is the only fifty cent coin issued by the United States Mint. Intended as a memorial to the assassinated President John F. Ten Coins 23465 | $14.95

Standing Liberty Quarters These coins were struck by the U.S. Mint from 1916 to 1930 in .900 silver. The original design of the coin was the subject of some controversy. The design was modified in 1917 to cover Liberty’s exposed breast, and the reverse received a new arrangement of the stars, with the eagle moved higher. In 1925 the design was altered again when a depression was made in the pedestal on which Liberty stands and that bears the date.

Barber, Chief Engraver of the Mint, who also designed the twenty, five, and fifty-cent pieces. His initial B is at the end of the neck of the image of Liberty on the obverse.
